Reuters: Police Come Under ‘Heavy Gunfire’ In Ferguson

From Reuters:

U.S. police come under gunfire, arrest 31 in Missouri racial unrest

FERGUSON Mo. (Reuters) – U.S. police said early on Tuesday they came under heavy gunfire and arrested 31 people during another night of racially charged protests in Ferguson, Missouri, sparked by the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager by a white policeman 10 days ago…

What a stunning headline and lead. We had no idea the police were ever in any danger in Ferguson. In fact, we had somehow gotten the opposite impression. We thought they were excessively over-armed and over protected, which was itself a terrible provocation to ‘the community.’

Which, of course, makes it all the cops own fault, after all. If the police weren’t going around in armored vehicles and wearing bullet proof vests, people wouldn’t shoot at them. It’s simply ’cause and effect.’

State Highway Patrol Captain Ron Johnson, briefing reporters on Monday’s night’s violence, said "our officers came under heavy gunfire" in one area. "Not a single bullet was fired by officers despite coming under heavy attack," he told a news conference.

Thank goodness the police didn’t shoot back. That would just make the ‘protesters’ angrier.

Riot police had confiscated two guns from protesters and what looked like a petrol bomb. Four officers had been injured…

We hope this news doesn’t keep Capt. Johnson from marching alongside the protesters again. After all, we can’t let a few bad apples ruin the whole barrel.

"This has to stop. I don’t want anybody to get hurt. We have to find a way to stop this," said Johnson…

Funny, we thought the police and the National Guard knew how to stop rioting and looting. But apparently we were wrong.

An overnight curfew has been imposed and the National Guard, the U.S. state militia, has been deployed in the St. Louis suburb of 21,000 people to stop looting and burning that have punctuated the protests…

Which is weird. Since the ‘protesters’ rioted the night before last, to protest the previous curfew. But then they rioted again last night, as soon as the curfew was lifted. Apparently, there is no pleasing some people.
