Obama Space Weapon Ban May Be Tricky

Speaking of dangerous buffoons.

Even Reuters feels obligated to give Mr. Obama cover in case he wants to re-think his dangerous pledge to do away with our missile defense system and other ‘space weaponry’:

Challenges loom as Obama seeks space weapons ban

Sun Jan 25, 2009

By Andrea Shalal-Esa – Analysis

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama’s pledge to seek a worldwide ban on weapons in space marks a dramatic shift in U.S. policy while posing the tricky issue of defining whether a satellite can be a weapon.

Moments after Obama’s inauguration last week, the White House website was updated to include policy statements on a range of issues, including a pledge to restore U.S. leadership on space issues and seek a worldwide ban on weapons that interfere with military and commercial satellites

Watchdog groups and even some defense officials welcomed the statement, which echoed Obama’s campaign promises, but said it would take time to hammer out a comprehensive new strategy.

Enacting a global ban on space weapons could prove even harder

Two years ago, China used a missile to destroy one of its own satellites in a test that raised worries about a new arms race in space. The incident may have created thousands of pieces of debris. Last year, the United States also destroyed one of its own satellites, saying its toxic fuel tank could pose a danger if it fell to Earth

A defense official, who also asked not to be named, said the Obama administration had not yet held briefings for top officials working on military space issues, but it was clear that the focus would shift toward more diplomatic initiatives.

Work on classified projects involving an "active" military response to attacks against U.S. satellites might be halted in favor of more monitoring and passive protection measures, he said. He declined to give any more details.

The Obama administration also faces tough decisions on many multibillion-dollar satellite programs facing cost overruns and schedule delays, particularly at a time when rapid increases in military spending are grinding to a halt.

"There’s still a lot of wiggle room" in the administration’s statement on military space, said analyst Victoria Samson with the private Center for Defense Information. "But just the sheer fact that they are discussing it represents a real shift from the Bush administration." …

As we often note, history may not repeat itself, but stupidity sure does.

We have gone down Obama’s road numerous times before. The Russians, the Chinese and the rest of our enemies, simply do not abide by such treaties.

Instead, they see such bans as an opportunity to increase their own efforts. So that these pacts achieve exactly the opposite of their putative purpose.

By the way, note the moral equivalency Reuters draws here:

Two years ago, China used a missile to destroy one of its own satellites in a test that raised worries about a new arms race in space. The incident may have created thousands of pieces of debris. Last year, the United States also destroyed one of its own satellites, saying its toxic fuel tank could pose a danger if it fell to Earth…

Normally, one might chalk up such proposals to naiveté. But given Mr. Obama and his advisors, we suspect it is more sinister.

After all, they hate the fact that the US is the most powerful nation in the world. And they have long since promised to do something about that.

But we can’t say he didn’t warn us.

The Obama administration also faces tough decisions on many multibillion-dollar satellite programs facing cost overruns and schedule delays, particularly at a time when rapid increases in military spending are grinding to a halt.

You see, government spending that actually helps protect our nation and develop our technology cannot be allowed.

That money needs to go to more important needs, such as the teachers union and community organizers.

May I bring this little example of ass kissing by the Washington [com]Post today:

“Soon after the November election, al-Qaeda’s No. 2 leader took stock of America’s new president-elect and dismissed him with an insulting epithet. “A house Negro,” Ayman al-Zawahiri said.”

Ok, so now we know that AQ doesn’t subscribe to our own PC rules. Surprise, surprise.

The WP goes on to explain the reason why.

“The torrent of hateful words is part of what terrorism experts now believe is a deliberate, even DESPARATE, propaganda campaign against a president who appears to have gotten under al-Qaeda’s skin. The departure of George W. Bush deprived al-Qaeda of a polarizing American leader who reliably drove recruits and donations to the terrorist group.”

Got that? Do you understand now? While George W. Bush went about the business of killing these bastards, he was in reality, making it worse by forcing them into a jihad mode. According to the Washington Bird Cage Liner, a new and more civil president is now giving them cause for worry. No more recruits. The jihadist are now going to stay home and take care of their goats. You see, all those threatening videos the jihadists put out during the Bush administration was simply proof that they were still around and the war could not be won. Now that the Post has seen the media’s Chosen One annointed, all is well, and the jihadis are running scared. Can there be any doubt of the Messianic powers of Obama when just five days into his administration, he had chased off the bad guys who are now trembling with fear?

“But for now, the change in Washington appears to have rattled al-Qaeda’s leaders, some of whom are scrambling to convince the faithful that Obama and Bush are essentially the same.

“They’re highly uncertain about what they’re getting in this new adversary,” said Paul Pillar, a former CIA counterterrorism offical who lectures on national security at Georgetown University. “For al-Qaeda, as a matter of image and tone, George W. Bush had been a near-perfect foil.”

See, all we needed was someone who would promise not to torture them and would take their fellow jolly jihadists from the hell hole that is Gitmo.

Now add to the butt kissing article from Reuters, and you have the completion of the final death throws of a once valuable resource of information, the American press.

Is there any doubt that the MSM will soon be delgated to the trash heap of American industry such as the buggy whip companies and those who made beaver top hats?

It can happen none too soon for me. I would suggest to AQ that their next attack be aimed at the WP and the NYSlimes, but that would only bring sympathy for the purveyors of socialist propaganda. Rather they be allowed to die the quiet death of the T.Rex, to be thought of fondly by future generations.

I read the same artcile, and between bouts of throwing up in my mouth, came to (surprise) completely different conclusions.

The author is attempting to state Obama is bad for AQ because they just dont have the “anger and hate” as they did with Bush, which is nonsense. Because of the following quote:

-“If he withdraws from the war, it is military defeat,” he said in an audiotaped message. “And if he continues it, he drowns in economic crisis. How can it be that [Bush] passed over to him two wars, not one war, and he is unable to continue them? We are on our path to open other fronts, with permission from Allah.”

i.e. If Bambi doesn’t have the nuts, we will go back to expanding fronts, ala pre Bush years and there is no need to concentrate on just one area.

I thought I would never say this – but I fear the day an AQ leader is smarter tactically, strategically and militarily than Bambi and the Dems combined…

Uh, I got bad news, Odie44…today may be that day.

    • jrmcdonald

Jimmy? Is that really Jimmy Carter talking? Maybe Maddie Albright has a new sock puppet!

    • Good Lord! The definition of the term “Spin” just took on an entire new meaning after reading the monstrous rationalization by the Post. No Liberal bias there.

  2. AuntieAM

A quote I heard some time ago keeps coming to mind–paraphrasing, the man said that countries, like species, that can’t (or won’t) defend themselves, don’t survive.

  3. proreason

we can have the same guys who wrote the kyoto accords write the ban on space weapons.

Since global warming has ceased (no credit claimed yet, but it’s inevitable), we can expect the development of space weapons to cease as well.

  4. Liberals Demise

He did declare war on the unborn in other countries. You da man Barry!!
Too bad your mom didnt do the samey-same to YOU! Grrrrrrrrrr……….

If his mother had any morals , he would not be here today.

    • jobeth

I am truly dead set against abortion for any other reason except for the mother’s life.

To bad his mother life wasn’t in danger…

(and I might have even “bent” my morals…just for his abortion).

Oh lordy, this man has even gotten ME thinking fondly of abortion.

  5. B17Engr

The heck with that new fangled stuff.

Let’s go back to Spear chucking!

    Can’t help for feeling silly!

  6. David

When weapons in space are criminalized only criminals will have weapons in space!

  7. Colonel1961

Yeah, I have to (have to!) agree with GoBama on this one – we don’t need any military satellites in space. After all, they could be used to spy on our enemies, which is just plain wrong. If our enemies want us to know something, they’ll simply tell us when asked – right?

    • Kilmeny

You forget Colonel, that once we’ve instituted all Obama’s policies and lowered our standard of living and rendered ourselves defenseless, we won’t have any enemies.

    • Liberals Demise

      Uh….yea….sure….right! (Pppffft!!)

According to the Dear Leader, it’s not just missiles and tanks that defend you:

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with the sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

Do you like the causal chain?

    (1) Justness of our cause
    (2) The force of our example
    (3) Tempering qualities of humility and restraint (liberalism)

This is sophisticated stuff. Obama is staring from a solid premise (of course a great nation should have “just causes” but then morphs this in a couple of steps into soppy tree hugging.

    • Ooops … missing bracket:

      Huh. Say what?!!!

    • Liberals Demise

John….don’t you recall “monkey speak”, monkey see” and “monkey do”?
What Duh One is flashing before us is the “monkey dodo”. I’ve never heard more shit coming from someone who knows ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about what he is saying, PERIOD!!
      N-O-T-H-I-N-G!!

    • proreason

Isn’t it strange that the forebearance of missles and tanks would be exactly what the Russians and chicoms would suggest if they were able to make policy for the U.S.?

    • Rusty Shackleford

Once again, Oblabby uses words that are not his own. Although, I know I’ve heard (read?) them someplace before, (Reagan?, Truman? Kennedy…sounds more like Kennedy)…they are not his own. I know this because were you to take a flashlight and shine them in the boy’s big, honkin’ dontchu be talkin bout dem ears, you would find a blank savannah, devoid of vegetation, perhaps the occasional tumbleweed drifting by…a moth….but not a lot of intellectual activity. Watching him is like watching any actor who hasn’t quite found his “persona”. He’s got a pose….much like the album covers on a gansta rappa with that chin “all up in it” and “got his ‘tude on”.

To me, it’s comical. There’s no way I can look at him and not laugh. But…there were those who said the same of Hitler. We can laugh at him NOW…but…..many millions died to get to that phase.

When he talks about the military, I have to say, I was in the military for some time and there’s no way I could know enough to have all the answers. But with that said, I can easily say I know more than him. To him, who’s never fired a weapon, never ridden in a tank, never donned a uniform but simply spent his youth smoking dope and playing “victim”, is an absurd caricature. Hell, even Jimmy Carter served in the Navy, as did Nixon. In the past several decades, all our presidents, save TWO, were veterans. Those two were…..Bill-Jeff and….(drum roll please), Uncle Oblabby.

      Truman
      Eisenhower
      Kennedy
      Johnson
      Nixon
      Ford
      Carter
      Reagan
      Bush, Sr
      Bush, Jr

All had donned a uniform. All had volunteered of themselves to serve the nation.

But not Bill-Jeff. Nope. His pecker was more important. But what was more important to Oblabby? Is it possible that he maybe wanted to but couldn’t produce a birth certificate?

Or, more likely, he hated the fact that the military “was killin’ our black boys by sendin’ dem to Vee-ET-nam”?

Or, even more likely, he had no idea of what country he was from, and also that he had no vested interest, unlike most young men, or vague curiosity about the military at all?

Who knows? Who cares? He will diddle the military the way he wants to diddle with everything else. The real irony is that he may very well reinstate the draft, thereby “creating jobs” for all dem po’ folk. In which case, I really do hope that “skilled, white construction workers DON’T get those jobs”.

But as for his understanding of weaponry, weapons systems, military logistics, infrastructure, materiel and personnel, his clue bird has flown away. Or, more accurately, it never landed. He knows as much about the aforementioned as I do about subterranean mining. And, he will have a bitch of a time talking to the chiefs of staff on that basis alone. Every time they mention a technical term, he will either “assume the position”, that being the chin up and “attentive/interested/intrigued” look or…he will have to ask “what does that mean?” and I doubt, with serious conviction, that he will ever ask people who intimidate him (not their fault, mind you) anything that remotely sounds like a plea for help with his ignorance.

He will not understand our capabilities nor will he comprehend the potential damage he can do with a wave of his magic negro wand.

“See dis heer? We be makins all diss go away….jess like dat, see?” “Sho nuf….it gone.” “Now, whatchu tink ’bout dat?”

I often wonder how Colin Powell, the replublicrat that he is, would have dealt with his brutha being iggy.

Or, would he bring in Will Smith to explain it to him?

(just kidding, I like Will Smith)

But, here we are, in a new, frightening era with a terrorist collaborator who wants to gut the military, take its pelt and hang it on the oval office wall. Hurray for our side when “Doctrine won out over having to have real weapons”.

A just cause cannot be heard over the din of gunfire.
“The force” of our example isn’t something you can summon as if from a Star Wars flick
Humility and restraint are the qualities forced upon the minions when all hope is destroyed.

Again, borrowing from the words of the character Nathan Jessup: “We use words like honor, code, loyalty … we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use ‘em as a punchline.”

Words mean NOTHING to a liberal. They have never had to back up their words with anything and Oblabby is certainly no exception. He has never stood for anything. He’s never had to. If I were still in the military, there is no way I could take that ass-clown seriously. I almost vomited the day Clinton put on that flight jacket on board the carrier that day. And don’t tell me that the troops weren’t ORDERED to be there. And the same will happen with this disgraceful example of American-hood.

He will do his level-best (whatever THAT is) to destroy the US military. And…the American people will let him. And on that day, I will weep.

Can you just see the future?

Us standing in front of incoming fire chest out…proudly displaying the ” justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint”

No weapons…just the “justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint”

ahh, the pink ladies will be proud…

now off I go…la, la, la, la….(twisting my hair as I go)

First, let me say I stumbled over this gem of a site and was pleasantly surprised to find like minded people. I hope my contributions will be up to par with this intelligent crowd. Got to prioritize, y’all.

Teaching kids to put on condoms and funding crappy paintings of the Virgin Mary (and I mean it was crappy before there was actual, literal cap on it) are important.

Defending ourselves, that’s for when we’ve got money to spare.
