Rodeo Clown Banned, Dems Wants To Defund Fair

From a memory deficient Associated Press:

Missouri State Fair bans rodeo clown who mocked Obama

By David A. Lieb | August 12, 2013

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – The Missouri State Fair has permanently banned a rodeo clown whose imitation of President Barack Obama has been widely criticized as disrespectful.

Fair officials said Monday that the rodeo clown has been barred from ever performing at the fair again. They are also reviewing whether to take any actions against the contractor responsible for Saturday’s rodeo.

During the event, a clown wore a mask of Obama and asked the spectators if they wanted to see "Obama run down by a bull." Many in the audience responded enthusiastically.

The outrage!

But the act was criticized by Democrats and Republicans alike after video and photos of the event were posted online.

Some Democratic Missouri lawmakers are suggesting that the state should reconsider its annual funding for the fair in Sedalia.

And never mind that the tradition of mocking the heads of state goes back to the Ancient Romans at least, and probably long before them. It is literally one of the oldest kind of ‘clowning’ there is.

The royal courts of Europe had the king’s fool, the court jester, who had license to say anything. But because this rodeo clown is a little guy and not a famous comedian who’s on TV, he is sacrificed to the gods of intolerance.

Meanwhile, we have this from an irony proof Politico:

Rep. William Lacy Clay on clown: ‘Ugly face of intolerance’

By JAMES ARKIN | August 12, 2013

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) and Rep. William Lacy Clay (D-Mo.) were among the politicians who condemned the rodeo clown who wore a mask of President Obama and asked the crowd if they wanted to see the president “run down by a bull.”

The incident took place at the Missouri State Fair over the weekend. Clay issued a statement saying the act showed “an ugly face of intolerance.”

“I am amazed that in 2013, such hatred, intolerance and disrespect towards the President of the United States could take place at the Missouri State Fair. Our fair is supposed to showcase the best of Missouri, instead, it showed an ugly face of intolerance and ignorance to the world.”

McCaskill also released a statement Sunday calling the performance “shameful.”

“If what’s being reported is true, then it’s shameful and it’s unacceptable,” her statement said. “The State Fair is funded by taxpayer dollars, and is supposed to be a place where we can all bring our families and celebrate the state that we love. But the young Missourians who witnessed this stunt learned exactly the wrong lesson about political discourse-that somehow it’s ever acceptable to, in a public event, disrespect, taunt, and joke about harming the President of our great nation. Missouri is better than this, and I expect someone to be held accountable.”

Meanwhile, no one seems to remember that a Bush mask was used in rodeo in 1994, where it was trampled by bulls. Or that Mr. Bush was regularly called a chimp, even by the Huffington Post. Or that people happily wrote books, created T-shirts and even made movies about assassinating Bush.

But wearing a mask of Obama is intolerance. And grounds for de-funding the state fair all together.

I’m still waiting for any of these same democrats to be ‘ashamed’ of the movie, “Death of a President,” which depicted an erotic liberal fantasy assassination plot against President Bush.

The best part was the Obama clown had a stick up his butt. Oh the irony.

My what thin skins some folks have. They’d probably
be even more ballistic over a burning in effigy.

    • They’d probably be even more ballistic over a burning in effigy.
Only if it happens in America. They’re burning Obama in effigy regularly in the middle east. I guess they missed the memo about global warming.

But they’re, definitely not racists. They’re muslims, and we all know muslims can’t be racist.
