Michelle Obama Wears $540 Sneakers

While volunteering Wednesday at a D.C. food bank, the First Lady sported her usual J.Crew cardigan, a pair of utilitarian capri pants and, on her feet, a sneaky splurge: trainers that go for $540.

That’s right: These sneakers – suede, with grosgrain ribbon laces and metallic pink toe caps – are made by French design house Lanvin, one of fashion’s hottest labels. They come in denim and satin versions, and have been a brisk seller all spring…

"They’re shoes," the First Lady’s reps sniffed when curious reporters inquired about the fancy footwear.

Michelle has stepped out in Lanvin before while getting down to business. A week ago, she shoveled dirt at a tree planting while wearing the line’s chiffon tank.

Dresses and strappy pumps cost upward of $1,500, while tops go for $400 to $1,000…

She’ll be trodding on New York’s sidewalks Tuesday for the first time as First Lady. Michelle will meet with staff at the U.S. mission to the United Nations. Later, she headlines Time magazine’s "100 most influential people" gala.

Normally we don’t much care what people wear, as long as they are using their own money.

(And Mrs. Obama should be able to afford them, since she was paid $63,000 for a no-show job.)

But just think how many hungry children could be fed with $540.

And what kind of example is this for our impressionable and disadvantaged black youth?

SUBWAY KID STABBED FOR ‘KICKS’

A group of hoodlums stole the sneakers right off the feet of a Long Island teen after brutally beating and stabbing him aboard a Brooklyn subway train, authorities said yesterday.

Roman Gill, 17, and about nine cohorts accosted the boy, who is from Roosevelt, on an eastbound A train at Nostrand Avenue Station in Bedford-Stuyvesant at 1:12 a.m. on April 13, cops said.

The thugs punched and kicked the boy, then plunged a knife into his ribcage, sources said. They also swiped his cellphone and took the sneakers off his feet.

The boy managed to call his mom, who phoned cops. He was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he was treated for the puncture wound.

Gill was arrested Wednesday.

It’s already started.

    Gee, I’ve never spent more than $200 for a pair of shoes myself and those were the shoes I wore at my wedding. It must be nice. Maybe the RNC paid for them. They’ve been calling again looking for money but when they come up on the caller id I just let it ring.

    And those things are ugly to boot (no pun intended). Maybe designers are gifting their wares to her now, like they do to other celebrities. Either way, what a fraud this woman is. Kinda reminds me of those ridiculous looking tire rims, and other silly looking car “bling” ghetto folks put on their vehicles (like spinners).

    Looks to me like a pair of Chuck Taylor’s with some dime store appliques slapped on them, maybe new laces too.
    My daughter decorated her sneakers like that years ago in grade school but I’m sure as hell they weren’t worth $500 plus, … $25 tops.

    I’m sorry, I know this sounds ugly (sort of like the shoes) but my first thought is she could do for a pair of pants that aren’t too short and tight for her! She is far to tall and “brawny” looking to wear that style pants. With the shoes she looks like she came from the local thrift shop and they didn’t have her size!

    This brings to mind the old saw, “you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear”.

    No class what ever…and they are saying everyone wants to dress like her…WHO? Ever see anyone dressing like her out of choice?

      This brings to mind the old saw, “You can’t make sh*t shine.” Once we were working on a rent-subsidy rehab and I made that comment to one of my carpenters after I’d been asked to do a make-over on an entryway that should have been torn down and re-built. The next morning at starting time, he ran up to me and said, “Captain Turd-polisher reporting as ordered, SIR!”

      We did it, too! And it still looked like a polished turd.

    Dude, I’m 21 and wear Reebok Classics for crying out loud. I think the most expensive pair of shoes I’ve ever wore was a pair of Timberland boots.

    And FYI, people have been stabbed and shot for their shoes (and jackets) going back for at least a decade. Used to happen all the time in D.C. back in the ’90s.

      Yes . . . but it wasn’t until the 1992 Milwaukee “Urban Psychosis” case that this “we are entitled to whatever anyone else has” mentality came to light.

      It revloved around a black girl trying to justify in court her killing a white girl because she refused to hand over her black leather coat and the black girl had “soicety” constantly flashing the finer things in life in her face. The “urban psychosis” defense was thrown out but the seeds were sown in this case.

      BTW . . . try to retrive any information on this case from the socialistic memory hole . . . its like trying to find a straight answer from Robert “Bahgdad Bob” Gibbs.

      I was fortunate enough to purchase a hard copy from the Milwaukee Journal years ago . . . back before great things like the “net” and S & L . . . thanks SG for your vigilance!

      Colonel sir, Unfortunately the photo of OJ wearing the ugly Bruno Maglie shoes at a sports event, accompanied by the white wife he murdered was not discovered til he was aquited. The photo was found, and helped convict OJ of murder, in the Civil Trial Suit, a non-punitive court. California no double-jeopardy law. On the stand, Simpson said
      “I never would have owned those ugly-ass shoes!”

      Fun, is seeing if Michelio wears these Barbie shoes again, or any apparal more than once. Wait til the queen’s auction. She will make a profit for herself.

    In fact, living in Colorado, I’ve never spent that much on a pair of ski boots…and my snowboard, binding and boots cost all of $270 together (50% off)!

Taken from the original meaning of trodding which is something a war-torn soldier’s suffering.
