Michelle Obama Wears $540 Sneakers

From her fans at the New York Daily News:

Capital Area Food Bank President and CEO Lynn Brantley (L-R), Jill Biden, U.S. first lady Michelle Obama and President and CEO of Feed America Vicki Escarra make remarks to spouses of members of Congress and other volunteers to assemble bags of food to feed 1,000 students who participated in the Food for Kids program, at the Capital Area Foodbank in Washington April 29, 2009.

First Lady Michelle Obama steps out in Lanvin sneakers and they’re only $540!

By Amy Diluna
Friday, May 1st 2009

While volunteering Wednesday at a D.C. food bank, the First Lady sported her usual J.Crew cardigan, a pair of utilitarian capri pants and, on her feet, a sneaky splurge: trainers that go for $540.

That’s right: These sneakers – suede, with grosgrain ribbon laces and metallic pink toe caps – are made by French design house Lanvin, one of fashion’s hottest labels. They come in denim and satin versions, and have been a brisk seller all spring…

"They’re shoes," the First Lady’s reps sniffed when curious reporters inquired about the fancy footwear.

Michelle has stepped out in Lanvin before while getting down to business. A week ago, she shoveled dirt at a tree planting while wearing the line’s chiffon tank.

Dresses and strappy pumps cost upward of $1,500, while tops go for $400 to $1,000

She’ll be trodding on New York’s sidewalks Tuesday for the first time as First Lady. Michelle will meet with staff at the U.S. mission to the United Nations. Later, she headlines Time magazine’s "100 most influential people" gala.

Normally we don’t much care what people wear, as long as they are using their own money.

(And Mrs. Obama should be able to afford them, since she was paid $63,000 for a no-show job.)

But just think how many hungry children could be fed with $540.

And what kind of example is this for our impressionable and disadvantaged black youth?

  Update!

From the New York Post:

SUBWAY KID STABBED FOR ‘KICKS’

By JAMIE SCHRAM

May 1, 2009

A group of hoodlums stole the sneakers right off the feet of a Long Island teen after brutally beating and stabbing him aboard a Brooklyn subway train, authorities said yesterday.

Roman Gill, 17, and about nine cohorts accosted the boy, who is from Roosevelt, on an eastbound A train at Nostrand Avenue Station in Bedford-Stuyvesant at 1:12 a.m. on April 13, cops said.

The thugs punched and kicked the boy, then plunged a knife into his ribcage, sources said. They also swiped his cellphone and took the sneakers off his feet.

The boy managed to call his mom, who phoned cops. He was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he was treated for the puncture wound.

Gill was arrested Wednesday.

It’s already started.

    Did McCain pay for them?

I hope so. I love a good crisis.

  2. catie says:

Gee, I’ve never spent more than $200 for a pair of shoes myself and those were the shoes I wore at my wedding. It must be nice. Maybe the RNC paid for them. They’ve been calling again looking for money but when they come up on the caller id I just let it ring.

The same example that has gotten kids shot for Air Jordan’s since the 80’s…

      SUBWAY KID STABBED FOR ‘KICKS’

I certainly wasn’t kidding or tongue in cheek in my comments. This has been going on since 1980’s Air Jordan’s – the first high priced sneakers to hit the market…

  4. Moonspinner says:

Michelle’s version of “let them eat cake”.

    • ptat says:

That’s the first thing that popped into my mind! Queen Obama! And speaking of letting them eat cake, can you freaking believe the hypocrisy of wearing them at a feed the hungry event!? For those who have eyes to see—the Emperor AND his wife “have no clothes”. Every day they demonstrate for all to see how empty they are.

  5. BatK says:

Curious to see the news coverage if Sarah Palin ever wore those

  6. Celina says:

And those things are ugly to boot (no pun intended). Maybe designers are gifting their wares to her now, like they do to other celebrities. Either way, what a fraud this woman is. Kinda reminds me of those ridiculous looking tire rims, and other silly looking car “bling” ghetto folks put on their vehicles (like spinners).

    • groovygrl says:

As a self-proclaimed shoe maven, I agree with the ugly verdict. She paid $540 for a pair of shoes the color of mixed up Play-Doh.

  7. jrmcdonald says:

Man, look at the boats! I could put sails on them and have races at the lake!

  8. Gila Monster says:

Looks to me like a pair of Chuck Taylor’s with some dime store appliques slapped on them, maybe new laces too.
My daughter decorated her sneakers like that years ago in grade school but I’m sure as hell they weren’t worth $500 plus, … $25 tops.

    • elizabethyork says:

I think converse low-tops cost $40 at the most.
Of course, those shows she’s wearing look like the knock-off Chucks sold at Wal-Mart.
      I’m thinking $10.
Wait…those special laces might have cost an extra $3.

  9. BigBad says:

Wearing $540 shoes in front of feed America sign. That is a compassionate liberal all right.

    • Colonel1961 says:

Yeah, BB, but the point you’re missing is that ‘she cares!’ Therefore, it’s ok…

  10. proreason says:

    Size 12’s.

What must they look like when they are crammed into the $1500 “strappy pumps”.

No wonder The Moron’s kids look more like the derilicts that hang aroud the South Side Insemination Clinic than they look like Obamy.

  11. JohnMG says:

I see no irony here. All liberals want to do good things with other people’s money. That’s what everybody else is for.

  12. jobeth says:

I’m sorry, I know this sounds ugly (sort of like the shoes) but my first thought is she could do for a pair of pants that aren’t too short and tight for her! She is far to tall and “brawny” looking to wear that style pants. With the shoes she looks like she came from the local thrift shop and they didn’t have her size!

This brings to mind the old saw, “you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear”.

No class what ever…and they are saying everyone wants to dress like her…WHO? Ever see anyone dressing like her out of choice?

    • proreason says:

Have you seen her from the rear?

They don’t call her Thunder Butt for nothing.

But I hope that didn’t sound ugly. For those that don’t know, I’m really a fan of Her Highness. She’s right up there with Drooling Barney in the pantheon.

    • JohnMG says:

…..”This brings to mind the old saw, “you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear”……

This brings to mind the old saw, “You can’t make sh*t shine.” Once we were working on a rent-subsidy rehab and I made that comment to one of my carpenters after I’d been asked to do a make-over on an entryway that should have been torn down and re-built. The next morning at starting time, he ran up to me and said, “Captain Turd-polisher reporting as ordered, SIR!”

We did it, too! And it still looked like a polished turd.

  13. Odie44 says:

I love that J.Crew sweaters and capri pants are “haute coutre”.

I guess she needed to balance it out with $500 sneakers…

  14. Liberals Demise says:

    Fashion maven……..never!!
Ghetto is the first thing that crosses my mind. What’s next…… a gold front tooth to bling the grill?
At $500.00 a pop……there are going to be a lot of poor black girls that can’t emulate da Queen “B” and it is all Bushs’ fault.
    That mean spirited honky!!

    • Right of the People says:

Gold tooth with a diamond. I’d love to see her crackberry, must be covered in rhinestones or maybe real diamonds. I’m not sure which first witch was uglier, her or the Hildabeast, both fugly in their own way. Sheesh, makes me shudder.

  15. 64dodger says:

Liberals don’t make charitable contributions with their own money. They prefer to use taxpayer money.

  16. wardmama4 says:

    Only two comments belong here:

Man, is she tone deaf, like most Liberals, she just doesn’t get it.
    and it’s corollary
Do As I Say, Not As I Do.

  17. Dude, I’m 21 and wear Reebok Classics for crying out loud. I think the most expensive pair of shoes I’ve ever wore was a pair of Timberland boots.

And FYI, people have been stabbed and shot for their shoes (and jackets) going back for at least a decade. Used to happen all the time in D.C. back in the ’90s.

    • Steve says:

“And FYI, people have been stabbed and shot for their shoes (and jackets) going back for at least a decade. Used to happen all the time in D.C. back in the ’90s.”

Actually, I was well aware of this phenomenon.

We were being a little facetious.

But, in truth, it is exactly the wrong signal for a role-model to be sending, is it not?

    • clifcrds says:

And FYI, people have been stabbed and shot for their shoes (and jackets) going back for at least a decade. Used to happen all the time in D.C. back in the ’90s.

Yes . . . but it wasn’t until the 1992 Milwaukee “Urban Psychosis” case that this “we are entitled to whatever anyone else has” mentality came to light.

It revloved around a black girl trying to justify in court her killing a white girl because she refused to hand over her black leather coat and the black girl had “soicety” constantly flashing the finer things in life in her face. The “urban psychosis” defense was thrown out but the seeds were sown in this case.

BTW . . . try to retrive any information on this case from the socialistic memory hole . . . its like trying to find a straight answer from Robert “Bahgdad Bob” Gibbs.

I was fortunate enough to purchase a hard copy from the Milwaukee Journal years ago . . . back before great things like the “net” and S & L . . . thanks SG for your vigilance!

    • Liberals Demise says:

      Robert “Baghdad Bob” Gibbs

Now that is a keeper…….Thanks mucho!!

  18. Colonel1961 says:

Hey, didn’t OJ say something about some ‘ugly-ass shoes’. Kinda fits here, too…

    • canary says:

Colonel sir, Unfortunately the photo of OJ wearing the ugly Bruno Maglie shoes at a sports event, accompanied by the white wife he murdered was not discovered til he was aquited. The photo was found, and helped convict OJ of murder, in the Civil Trial Suit, a non-punitive court. California no double-jeopardy law. On the stand, Simpson said
“I never would have owned those ugly-ass shoes!”

Fun, is seeing if Michelio wears these Barbie shoes again, or any apparal more than once. Wait til the queen’s auction. She will make a profit for herself.

  19. The_Beloved_Deb says:

The shoes are fabulous…do they come in women’s sizes?

  20. SonoraRebel says:

They look like somethin’ you’d find inna yard sale… or at the local Goodwill. Nuthin’ says ‘Ghetto’ like metallic pink toe caps. Somehow my black $160. Dan Post’s with the spur scars on the heels seem all the more relevant.

‘Serious set of hooves on that woman.

  21. Trogdor says:

They better have some awesome arch support for that. I can’t wear my Chuck Taylor’s due to lack of arch support.

In fact, living in Colorado, I’ve never spent that much on a pair of ski boots…and my snowboard, binding and boots cost all of $270 together (50% off)!

  22. Alan_Speakman says:

Okay, I’m not the grammar police or anything, but: “She’ll be trodding on New York’s sidewalks…”

Trodding? Really? It’s too bad that even journalists can’t write proper English any more.

    On topic: those shoes suck!

    • JohnMG says:

      ….”She’ll be trodding…..”

      Galumphing, maybe?

    • proreason says:

Squishing? Squashing? Overflowing? Melting? Enveloping? Crushing the sidewalks? Pulverizing them? Abusing them?

      “journalism” is sooo easy.

    • Steve says:

Were it Hillary, we could have said “ankling.”

    • U NO HOO says:

Trodding: what you have to be doing in Boston to get scrod.

Galumphing: A college math teacher used that term one time as a suggested substitution for a confusing math term. I forget the term but it had a common meaning that did not relate to math.

      FYI

    • JohnMG says:

      Trundling!

    • Liberals Demise says:

      Knuckle bumping the sidewalk!!

    • JohnMG says:

      Galumphing; Means to move with a clumsy, heavy tread. Seldom used anymore and something I’d expect to find in a Dr. Seuss book. Doesn’t Michelle look like a galumpher? ;-}

    • canary says:

Trodding is African-American slang for slavery. It’s for present day slavery they still consider to suffer under white people. Taken from the original meaning of trodding which is something a war-torn soldier’s suffering. Example is Obama recent statement of claiming he is experiencing the same horrific traumatic life-threatening as American soldiers, trying to survive an enemy attack. Kadoo’s to the reporter, in showing sympathy to MO’s new role. Poor rich girl.

  23. U NO HOO says:

    ” “You can’t make sh*t shine.” ”

    Mythbusters tried and succeeded.

    I’m just saying…

    • JohnMG says:

I wouldn’t have thought there was much of a market for shiny sh*t, but obviously, after looking at those shoes……..

And I have to agree with jobeth. A pair of bib overalls would have looked more tasteful. That outfit made her look like a fullback for the Giants.

  24. U NO HOO says:

Yuz cud by a used Fiat wid $500.

    Remember in The Jerk?

This is sh*t, this is Shinola.

The US has stepped into the sh*t.

    • Liberals Make Great Speedbumps says:

“I was born a poor black child.”
      “He hates these cans!”

      A classic movie.

  25. Barbie says:

Those shoes – how ugly, tacky, tasteless, and overrated -just like the wearer.

Why didn’t MO the HO give this money to the poor? Liberals. What a bunch of hypocrites – they care for the poor. BULL.

  26. Reality Bytes says:

Hey! When U Cool. U Cool.

Let’s not forget though those who made this all possible – that’s right, Rerun & “Gene Gene The Dancin’ Machine”

Let us not forget the room service charges she and ODumbo ran up last fall, I think it was. Remember? Lobster appetizers and lobster entrees, etc. for something like $1,300. I guess they were attending some sort of “feed the hungry” event then, too!

  28. ptat says:

Thanks, Colonel—I stand corrected and I am actually glad to hear that. How I wish so many of the other outrages were ersatz, too. I have never wanted to be wrong so much in my life. Alas, though, the facts confirm that the Obamas and their cronies really are America hating liars and incompetents.

  29. GL0120 says:

Keep it up folks and soon you’ll be hearing – “Ve haf vays of making you like those shoes!”
Do you really believe that TCO will long permit people to insult his “Beloved” wife?
In any event, I’m sure Baghdad Bob Gibbs will soon justify the shoes as the “Best possible choice” and the spineless Republicans will quickly agree.

    • proreason says:

GL: “Do you really believe that TCO will long permit people to insult his “Beloved” wife?”

there is room for only 1 “beloved” in The Moron’s life
