Romney Vows To Return Churchill Bust To WH

From the Weekly Standard:

Romney: ‘Looking Forward to the Bust of Winston Churchill Being in the Oval Office Again’

By DANIEL HALPER | Thursday July 26, 2012

At an event in London, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said, "I’m looking forward to the bust of Winston Churchill being in the Oval Office again."…

President Obama famously sent Churchill’s bust back to Britain soon after coming into office. As the Telegraph reported then:

"A bust of the former prime minister once voted the greatest Briton in history, which was loaned to George W Bush from the Government’s art collection after the September 11 attacks, has now been formally handed back.

The bronze by Sir Jacob Epstein, worth hundreds of thousands of pounds if it were ever sold on the open market, enjoyed pride of place in the Oval Office during President Bush’s tenure.

But when British officials offered to let Mr. Obama to hang onto the bust for a further four years, the White House said: "Thanks, but no thanks."

Here is another one of Romney’s outrageous gaffes that our mainstream media seems to be covering up for some reason. But, in addition to returning Churchill’s bust, just remember the litany of insults, great and small, that Obama has inflicted upon our British allies.

His siding with Argentina over the Falkland Islands. His calling France America’s strongest ally. His lecturing Britain on a federal Europe, and undercutting British sovereignty. His betraying Britain to appease Moscow over the New START Treaty.

And let’s not forget his cheesy gifts to their Prime Minister and the Queen. Or his calling the British Embassy the "English Embassy."

And those are just off the top of our head. We’re sure we’re leaving out dozens more.

Any word on what Romney plans to do with the magazine cover of Obama that was put up in its place? I wish I was just being snarky, but from what I read that’s literally what the egomaniac in chief did.

“And I would like to say (bite lip – squint – nod head) that Churchill’s bust (pause again, point thumb, squint, smile) wasn’t the only one on display in the Oval Office when I was president.”

White House falsely claims Churchill bust not removed…
    White House Busted!!
by Keith Koffler on July 28, 2012

The White House incorrectly claimed that a bust of Winston Churchill was not removed from the White House when President Obama moved in, insisting with emphatic certainty that it had simply been moved to the residence but then retracting the assertion.

In a “Fact Check” post added to the White House website Friday, White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer scornfully dismissed as “100% false” the “rumor” that Obama had removed the Churchill bust that had presided over the George W. Bush Oval Office and shipped it back to the British.

Turns out Pfeiffer’s was the false statement….
