‘Rosy Glasses’ Christina Romer Resigning

From an understanding Associated Press:

Romer, key Obama economic aide, resigning

WASHINGTON – Christina Romer, one of President Barack Obama’s most pivotal economic advisers, is resigning, a change that comes as the White House struggles to show signs of clear economic gains to a hurting nation.

What a weird sentence.

Romer, the head of the Council of Economic Advisers, announced her resignation Thursday, effective Sept. 3. She becomes the second high-level Obama aid to leave this summer, following the resignation of White House Budget Director Peter Orszag.

She will return to her job as a professor of economics at the University of California, Berkeley. The White House cast the decision as an unsurprising one driven by family reasons; in a statement, Obama said Romer has long wanted to return to California, where her son will be starting high school in the fall.

Translation: Ms. Romer wants to spend more time with her family – and less time being featured in Republican campaign ads.

By the way, as we recall, Mr. Orszag also resigned in order to spend more time with his family. (Just kidding.)

Romer has been one of the administration’s most prominent voices on the economy, making frequent appearances on television and at White House events to promote Obama’s policies.

Which reminds us of the old show business warning: ‘Never get too close to the star.’ Meaning, that it’s often the star’s best buddy who gets hurt or killed in the story – to provide the necessary suffering — rather than the star.

Her resignation comes as the White House labors to convince the public that the economy is on the right track amid near-double digit unemployment

"Christy Romer has provided extraordinary service to me and our country during a time of economic crisis and recovery," Obama said. "The challenges we faced demanded more of Christy than any of her predecessors, and I greatly valued and appreciated her skill, commitment and wise counsel."

Such as the notoriously "wise counsel" that claimed her and Mr. Obama’s ‘stimulus’ package would prevent unemployment from ever exceeding 8%.

Romer’s resignation came amid a report that she had been frustrasted [sic] that she didn’t have as much access to the president as Larry Summers, director of the White House National Economic Council. One administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss internal relations at the White House, played down that notion, noting that Romer met with the president daily to chart the government’s response to the financial meltdown. The official said Romer and Summers often emerged as strong allies…

The official said no decision has been made on who will replace Romer as head of the Council of Economic Advisers

Where will they ever find someone who can get so many things so wrong, so often? Mr. Biden already has a job in the administration.

Romer, along with Vice President Joe Biden’s top economist [and Journolist denizen], Jared Bernstein, wrote in a January 2009 report that the economic stimulus package Obama was proposing would keep unemployment under 8 percent. Without the stimulus, the report said employment would rise to about 9 percent in 2010. Yet unemployment has surpassed that figure.

Republicans have seized on that point

Which, as we have said, is exactly why Ms. Romer is headed out the door before the mid-term election season starts up.

She is the poster child of Mr. Obama’s gang (of academics) who can’t shoot straight. She needs to get back to Berkeley, where things always turns out like they are written on paper.

    -Vice President Joe Biden-

With intellect like this is it any wonder why the White House is tanking the economy?

….”She will return to her job as a professor of economics at the University of California, Berkeley…..”

With her track record as an economics advisor, she should return to Berzerk-ley as an apprentice janitor in charge of cleaning toilets.

That’s where her advice has placed our economy.

Not to worry, Hussein. There is an endless supply of rubber stamp, America hating leftists ready, willing and able to step into any available Czarship!!!

Ms. Romer was possessed by a fatal flaw.

Her prevarication skills were not up to the standards of the regime.

And even worse than that, she had been known in the past to occassionally tell the truth. That uncontrollably muddled her amateurish attempts to hoodwink the country.

    • Petronius says:

      Exactly right, Pro.

Ms Romer’s advice has been ignored. Even worse, she has been badly used. The White House sends her out to shill for them in interviews and hearings, to support economic policies that she knows are insupportable. She is fed up lying for a rotten regime. That is the real reason why she is leaving.

    • JohnMG says:

You give her too much credit Petronius. If she was really that upright, she would have refused from the start to disgorge such garbage. Nobody can be “used badly” without consenting to that use. At least not after the first transgression.

It’s the same reason I haven’t any use for ‘Baghdad Bob’ Gibbs. These people are the worst sort of whores imaginable. It is impossible to conceive of anyone in their positions being unaware of what is going on around themselves. If they weren’t in it for the possible personal gain, they wouldn’t take the jobs to begin with. Most of them willingly sell their souls.

They actually differ very little from those who are using them.

    • proreason says:

Bagdad Bob is unconnected to reality. He would happily turn on the gas valve for Tea Partiers if asked. Morality is not a concept with which he is familiar. He is a perfect commissar.

Romer, imho, got caught up in the okey-doke. You could tell it in the way she presented herself. It tore her up that she felt obligated to follow the regime’s cynical distortions of reality. She felt debased….and she was. If she lives another 20 years, she is the one person who might write about the treachery that surrounded her.

    • JohnMG says:

Caught up in the okey-doke or not, I question the timing.

I, too, thought she was somewhat on the ball at first. But if it took her this long to be overcome by the stink, she must have a very diminished olfactory capacity.

I seem to recall an early appointment to his administration who bailed only a few weeks into his tenure.

Romer should waste little time in feeling sorry for herself. She seems fairly astute so she shouldn’t feel betrayed either. She got bit, but that shouldn’t have surprised her since she knew they were a nest of snakes when she took the job. And if she DIDN’T know that, maybe she wasn’t as smart as I thought she was

    As an interesting aside….

As validation to the common comment here about “The great I Won’s” narcissism, I just happen to note that as usual, it’s all about HIM and not the country.

I cannot imagine Bush making the above statement. Bush wouldn’t have inserted himself at all in that statement, instead would make it about service to America and not to himself.

With Obalmy it’s always him first.

Stuff like this…slips of the tongue and truths that are denied but still manage to slip out are a hallmark of this WH

    • proreason says:

Good catch jobeth. That’s why we missed you.

Thanks Pro…Nice to be missed, :-D

I’m still around. Its a combination of it being a busy time of year for me and computer issues. But I always find a way to check in with my buds on S&L.

You guys are my grounding and sanity!

Hey! What’s that picture of Chris Farley doing attached to this article?!

    • canary says:

Reality Bytes, since you brought it up, I don’t mean to be judgmental such as Michelle Obama, but Romer, the Dept of Homeland Security pick, the last two Supreme Court Justice picks, look like they could compete in men wrestling matches. And the Democrats & liberal media picked on Sarah Palin who looks down to earth and healthy.
