Rove: Biden Is Lying About Scolding Bush

From Fox News:

Rove Calls Biden ‘Liar’ After VP Boasts of Scolding Bush

By Bill Sammon

Thursday, April 09, 2009

Republican strategist Karl Rove called Vice President Biden a "liar" on Thursday, dramatically escalating a feud between Biden and aides to former President George W. Bush over Biden’s claims to have rebuked Bush in private meetings.

"I hate to say this, but he’s a serial exaggerator," Rove told FOX News. "If I was being unkind I would say liar. But it is a habit he ought to drop."

Rove added: "You should not exaggerate and lie like this when you are the Vice President of the United States."

Biden’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment, although Biden spokesman Jay Carney told Fox on Wednesday: "The vice president stands by his remarks."

Carney was referring to two controversial assertions by Biden, the latest coming Tuesday during an interview on CNN.

"I remember President Bush saying to me one time in the Oval Office," Biden began, "’Well, Joe,’ he said, ‘I’m a leader.’ And I said: ‘Mr. President, turn and around look behind you. No one is following.’"

The exchange is purely "fictional," said Rove, who was Bush’s top political adviser in the White House.

"It didn’t happen," Rove, a FOX News contributor and former Bush adviser, told Megyn Kelly in an interview taped for "On The Record." "It’s his imagination; it’s a made-up, fictional world.

"He ought to get out of it and get back to reality," Rove added. "He’s making this up out of whole cloth."

Rove’s skepticism was echoed by a variety of other Bush aides, including former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer, chief of staff Andy Card and legislative liaison Candida Wolff.

They also disputed a similar assertion made by Biden in2004, when the former senator from Delaware told scores of Democratic colleagues at a lunch that he had challenged Bush’s moral certitude about the Iraq war during a private meeting in the Oval Office. Two years later, Biden repeated his story about dressing down the president.

"When I speak to the president – and I have had plenty of opportunity to be with the president, at least prior to the last election, a lot of hours alone with him. I mean, meaning me and his staff," Biden said on HBO’s "Real Time with Bill Maher" in April2006. "And the president will say things to me, and I’ll literally turn to the president, say: ‘Mr. President, how can you say that, knowing you don’t know the facts?’ And he’ll look at me and he’ll say – my word – he’ll look at me and he’ll say: ‘My instincts.’ He said: ‘I have good instincts.’ I said: ‘Mr. President, your instincts aren’t good enough.’"

On Thursday, Rove ridiculed the claim that Biden spent "a lot of hours alone with" Bush.

"Joe Biden was never alone with the president for more than few moments," Rove said. "There was staff in the room the whole time."

Rove was equally appalled by Biden’s claims of having given Bush his comeuppance.

"If you notice, all of these incidents have the same structure: Joe Biden courageously raises the impudent question; the president befuddles the answer; and Joe Biden drives home the dramatic response."

Rove scoffed at Biden’s claims that "he and the president were sitting there in the Oval Office, he was tutoring the president, he was asking him the critical questions that no one was willing to confront him with."

"With all due respect to the vice president, these are the kind of things you can get away with if you are a United States Senator, or a backbencher in the U.S. House of Representatives," Rove said. "You should not exaggerate and lie like this when you are the Vice President of the United States."

Carney declined to specify the dates of his boss’s purported Oval Office scoldings of Bush. Nor would he provide witnesses or notes to corroborate the episodes…

Every day it becomes more and more clear that Mr. Biden is dangerously out of touch with reality.

And mind you, choosing Mr. Biden was one of Mr. Obama’s most important decisions to date.

Of course he was helped by his since disgraced ‘vetting team’ (who weren’t working for him), including the brilliant Caroline Kennedy.

(Thanks to Howard Roark for the heads up.)

FINALLY… Someone calling a politician a “LIAR”!! Usually…pundits wax poetically around that word when it comes to politics. It is LONG past time for the gloves to come off and toss the gauntlet at the “LIARS” feet.

Joe (Hair Club for Men) Biden is a prolific liar… a effing liar!!

Joe opens his mouth….. Joe lies!!

  2. Yarddog1 says:

Mehinks the lying is just another trait of being a complete blithering fool and lunatic. Who is their right mind has ever taken this idiot for anything other than what he truly is? He is turning out to be the perfect court jester for the king.

I saw this on Greta’s show last night (with Megyn Kelly as guest host) and it was fantastic. It is unbelievable to me that this clown is the VEEP. He’s still a backbencher even in his new job. Why this clown was chosen I don’t know but he does add comic relief to the disaster that is the Obummer presidency. Karl Rove is right, he really lives in fantasy land.
BTW a friend of ours who was at the Biden speech at Fort Bragg this week told my husband that he had to tell his men and women that they had to try to be enthusiastic about his visit. When someone asked why he told them to just try and think about their favorite vacation or a place they would like to go and sit back and smile. The response was tepid at best.

    From Lovetoknow:

The Difference Between Pathological and Compulsive Liar

Many people get these two confused because they are similar. However, pathological liars usually only fib when they want to make themselves look better in front of other people. They create an entirely different role for themselves that they must continue to portray over time, and this means they have to keep lying.

The main difference between pathological and compulsive liars is that pathological liars will believe they are telling the truth, while compulsive liars know they are not, but will never admit it. With a pathological liar, you never really know if what they say is true or not, and you may never find out.

Of course The One ™ had to chose someone dumber than him – it was a given, for a number of reasons. Kind of reminds me of Dave – wonder who is plotting the takeover should The One ™ be taken out and of course the Bumbling Bidden will be smeared as the way to take him out – with his track record of lies – who ever is going to believe his denials?

Someone (gasp) even smarter than The One ™ has set up and elaborate scheme here – the problem is that America is being destroyed while these petty tyrants play their games.

    • jrmcdonald says:

There might be an additional reason for making Biden VP, besides the obvious of making The One ™ look smart; a fall guy.

Consider that if you put this clown on the stand, how hard would it be to make him look like a mental incompenant?

  6. proreason says:

The whole administration has zero connection to the truth.

The truth is inconvenient for what they want to accomplish.

If the truth was told, America would not abandon 230 years of poliices that made us the greatest country ever.

And The Moron would not be the front-man for an oligarchy-led socialist take-over of the United States.

And the fact that they can get away with it is the most damning thing of all.

Damning because it speaks to the tragic stupidity and gullibility of the Americans who voted for a charlatan without a thought to the consequences.

    • A Mad Pole says:

“tragic stupidity and gullibility of the Americans”

      Could not agree more.

Remember though, who controls the education, controls the future of a nation.

Remember though, who controls the education, controls the future of a nation.

So true, PR and Pole! Lest we forget, it is because of the fact that too many of us sat home last election day [excluding our fine readers of S & L, ‘natch] and abdicated the responsibility of maintaining our “shining city on the hill” to embarrassing products of public schooling like this: http://girdingmyloins.blogspot.com/2008/11/are-literacy-tests-needed.html

“embarrassing products of public schooling like this: http://girdingmyloins.blogspot…..eeded.html”

The girl reminds me of the morons at my school that will randomly nod their heads and sing, “Obama OBAMa OBAMa”, for no apparent reason in the cafeteria. (There’s a bit of dancing sometimes thrown in.) I asked a guy why they did that and he said something along the lines of what that girl in the clip said.

I’m surrounded by morons following the Moron himself. Can’t wait for college.

    • Colonel1961 says:

Squito: thanks for taking an interest in politics – especially non-liberal politics. A rare commodity in younger folks, unfortunately. And please regale us with stories of the brainwashing that masquerades as ‘teaching’ in schools these days…

      Best wishes,

    • Howard Roark says:

I echo our Colonel’s sentiments, Squito. You are already showing great progress as a free thinker.

When you go to college, don’t let the professors intimidate your curiosity. You will be surrounded by students who are too busy wasting their college money by ignoring the chance to challenge their high and mighty “teachers”. The lessons you learn by (respectfully) asking questions of these professors will last you a lifetime.

And when someone warns you that “your grades will suffer” from standing up for the truth to these self-appointed “experts”, comfort yourself with the realization that America has turned into a place that waters down all tests scores to the point of being meaningless, today.

  7. Petronius says:

Liberals are always better out of power than in power, better at changing than preserving, better at complaining, tearing down, and destroying than at building and governing. Hence the tendency among Liberals to compensate for their inaptitude by engaging in flights of fantasy and propaganda. When in power, they tend to detach completely from reality (or to vote “present”). Adjutorium nostrum, Domine.

  8. Media_man says:

What’s truly newsworthy is the fact that somebody calling Biden a liar even makes it into the paper. Half the stuff he says are certifiable lies but nobody in the MSM cares. His debate with Palin was one whopper after the next & the only thing the media cared about was the fact the Palin winked a few times.

It’s a sad time to be an American with turds like Biden in charge.

Thanks to Rove for calling a spade a spade.

  9. GL0120 says:

Sad to say but Rove has more starch in his backbone than Bush.
Why isn’t Bush coming out and saying that these conversations never happened and that Biden has more defecation than a port-a-john?
Bush allowed the libs and their lapdogs (the MSM) to portray him as a stupid fool for 8 long years when the truth was that he’d done better than the ones the libs put against him.
If we’re going to get rid of Obammy and the socialist state it’s going to take far more guts than we’re being shown!

    • And Rove has been fairly decent in his respectfulness to this administration, so when he says Biden is a liar… it really means Biden is a liar.. I can appreciate that.

I would also add that Biden is probably client #10 as well.. just saying..

    • Lisa22 says:

Bush is just too nice. Same as Reagan was, only he had Nancy watching out for him. Don’t get me wrong, I like Laura Bush but Nancy was very good at being persistant about who or what might harm Reagan and said so.

    • proreason says:

Bush can’t get in a pissing contest with the aboministration.

I’m usually one to urge Republicans to be more forthright, as Rove is being now, but Bush simply cannot call Biden a liar.

That would lower himself to the level of the pond scum in office now, and it simply can’t be done. We would all regret it later.

(but I also wish Bush had made his case on every front more forcefully when he was in office).

  10. serfer62 says:

    Nice going Media-man
You managed to insult spades & shovels across the universe…

  11. NotStuckOnStupid says:

Anybody remember that Biden Today Show appearance, where Jill Biden was bragging that Joe had been offered the Secretary of Stare position, and he hurriedly shushed her up? That was hilarious!

  12. Rusty Shackleford says:

    Roses are red,
    Violets are violet.
    Just how much higher
    can these morons pile it?

    If you can read this,
    you’re watching too closely
    Cuz behind that big curtain
    is Nancy Pelosi.

    And Biden’s the one
    we’ve been watching for years
with a foot in his mouth
    matching Barry’s big ears.

    Yet all is not lost,
there is time yet to vote
as for me, I will cast
    myself off in a boat.

    So long, America

  13. canary says:

Biden lied throughout the debate with Palin, and it was painful to watch. Palin had little time to prepare and did a poor job during the debate. Palin did not call Biden on his many fibs throughout the vice-president debates. Neither did the news. Obama and Biden; crows of a feather that flock together.

  14. Weasel says:

Picking Biden as VP was the smartest thing Obama (or who ever is really pulling the strings) has ever done. Who in their right mind would want Biden as President? This means that nobody except the absolute crazies will try to kill or impeach Obama. And you can’t do anything about the crazies, but this sure deters the rest of the people. Biden is the life insurance policy that keeps giving…

    • proreason says:

Despite Biden’s obviously lunacy, I would prefer him a hundredfold to The Moron.

The Moron is a dedicated radical who is determined to follow his master’s bidding and remake this country into a Socialist Oligarchy.

Biden is just a normal liberal nitwit.

  15. GL0120 says:

If Biden insists that he made these comments when alone for hours with Bush it should be easy for him to prove.
I’m certain that senators could not simply walk into the oval office and spend several hours there without an appointment; all Biden needs to do is to state when these meetings occurred and the records can be checked.
I would imagine that even Biden had a secretary who kept track of his whereabouts so if he can’t access old records from the oval office, let’s see what his records show.
I believe though that when it comes time to put up or shut up, Biden will shut up. That alone would be a blessing.
