Israel’s prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, has handed the Kremlin a list of Russian scientists believed by the Israelis to be helping Iran to develop a nuclear warhead. He is said to have delivered the list during a mysterious visit to Moscow.

Netanyahu flew to the Russian capital with Uzi Arad, his national security adviser, last month in a private jet.

His office claimed he was in Israel, visiting a secret military establishment at the time. It later emerged that he was holding talks with Vladimir Putin, the Russian prime minister, and President Dmitry Medvedev.

“We have heard that Netanyahu came with a list and concrete evidence showing that Russians are helping the Iranians to develop a bomb,” said a source close to the Russian defence minister last week.

“That is why it was kept secret. The point is not to embarrass Moscow, rather to spur it into action.”

Israeli sources said it was a short, tense meeting at which Netanyahu named the Russian experts said to be assisting Iran in its nuclear programme.

In western capitals the latest claims were treated with caution. American and British officials argued that the involvement of freelance Russian scientists belonged to the past.

American officials said concern about Russian experts acting without official approval, had been raised by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in a report more than a year ago.

“There has been Russian help. It is not the government, it is individuals, at least one helping Iran on weaponisation activities and it is worrisome,” said David Albright, a former weapons inspector who is president of the Institute for Science and International Security.

However, Israeli officials insist that any Russian scientists working in Iran could do so only with official approval.

Robert Einhorn, the special adviser for non-proliferation and arms control to Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, is understood to believe that Russian companies have also supplied material that has been used by Iran in the production of ballistic missiles…

Of course none of this should be surprising to anyone who has been sitting up and taking notice for the last five years.

But it is somewhat amazing that Mr. Netanyahu is being ignored even when he has provided the very names of the scientists involved.

But of course these gentlemen’s actions were all unauthorized. The Russians would never help the Iranians in an official capacity. Except when they do.

Oh, well, it’s all in the past. We should let bygones be bygones.

    What a shock.

Isn’t this great? Israel meets with Putin with proof Russian scientists are helping Iran to build a bomb, and America and Britain say it’s all in the past.

    All nations are equal.

Iran has as much of a right to blow its enemies off the face of the earth as we do.

And we used the bomb twice in Japan.

So what possible argument could there be to keep the bomb from Iran?

If humanity is destroyed, and it probably will be, it will all be in the name of a good principle.

    So its ok.

If we have any descendents, they will certainly admire our strong muti-cultural principles and our unyielding support for diversity.

    From Tom Lehrer, ca: 1960-something.

“First we got the bomb and that was good,
‘cuz we love peace and motherhood.
Then Russia got the bomb, but that’s ok,
The balance of power’s maintained that way”

Gee, dismantling that missile defense system has really encouraged the Russians to pressure Iran on the nuclear issue.

How many future wars will be tied to the weaknesses of multiculturalism and liberal relativism?

Next: Dismantle nuclear weapons in France, Britain, and the United States. Ask Iran and Venezuela nicely not to push forward with nuclear ambitions. Wait for a death toll that makes Hiroshima and Nagasaki look paltry by comparison.

In a nutshell, exactly. In this case Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) won’t work. The Iranian mullahs are essentially a suicide cult where they think that bringing on the apocalypse will bring their 12th Imam back. The Soviets, for all their flaws, weren’t suicidal. Just the opposite, they wanted to dominate the world with their brand of socialism.

    • beautyofreason says:

Yep, Sincity. That’s why Iran chose a “holy city” for the site of its nuclear plant. I don’t believe Iranian government would openly attack Israel but I have no doubt if they had the chance, they would pass off a small nuke to the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, while playing coy as to its source. They are already fighting Israel by proxy.

I understand that this information was gleaned from an exceptionally reliable source – Sean Penn.
No one, but no one, knows more about the Mideast and who’s doing what than Sean.
He was, after all, the one who assured the world that Saddam Hussein was nothing but a lovable little guy who wanted nothing but the best for his country, right?

  6. Georgfelis says:

I don’t think at this point that I would want to sell a life insurance policy to *anybody* on that list. Israel has been very “active” on terrorists and their enablers.
