Sebelius: Seniors Die Sooner Under GOP Plan

From her fans at the Politico:

Kathleen Sebelius: Seniors may ‘die sooner’ under Ryan plan

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said that the Ryan Medicare proposal will lead to early deaths among seniors.

During testimony before the House Education and the Workforce Committee, she said seniors “will run out of money very quickly.”

She continued, “If you run out of the government voucher and then you run out of your own money, you’re left to scrape together charity care, go without care, die sooner. There really aren’t a lot of options.”

Remember when this kind of talk was called ‘fear mongering’ by our watchdog media? But, apparently, only Republicans can monger fear.

The committee’s Democrats began the hearing by firing a shot at the Ryan plan, releasing a report by the Center for Economic and Policy Research that found seniors will need to save an additional $182,000 in order to cover increased health costs if it were to become law.

You will be surprised to learn that the the Center for Economic and Policy Research is a radical leftist organization, funded by George Soros, that has been laughably wrong every time they have cried wolf. They predicted that welfare reform would be an unmitigated disaster, for instance.

The CEPR are also huge fans of Hugo Chavez and the Castro brothers, and indeed all things communist. (See below.)

During the question-and-answer period, New Jersey Democrat Rob Andrews said that, on average, seniors have less than $100,000 in their 401(k)s. “If you’re a senior on Medicare and … you emptied out your 401(k), it would only pay for less than half” of the new out of pocket costs, he said…

[L]ater in the hearing, Indiana Rep. Larry Bucshon shot back at the secretary by accusing her of lying about the plan’s details.

“Are you aware [the Ryan plan is] designed after the same type of plan that members of Congress currently have, and would you call that putting members of Congress onto the open market?” he said. “Clearly it is deceptive to say to the American people that it’s putting seniors into the open market when, in fact, you know that that’s not true.”

Sebelius stood by her comments, adding that, unlike the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program, the federal government would not be the “generous partner” in insuring seniors that it is for federal employees.

Huh? How till the government be any less generous, if it is the same plan? Besides, if we don’t change Medicare, it will simply run out of money. And then everyone will "die sooner."

By the way, did anyone mention that Obama-care is funded by $500 billion dollars that has been stripped out of Medicare? Which is to say that Ms. Sebelius and Mr. Obama are stealing from a program which people have paid into all their working lives.

And they are giving that money to people who in many cases have contributed nothing. Is that social justice?

From Discover The Networks:

CENTER FOR ECONOMIC AND POLICY RESEARCH (CEPR)

Founded in November 1999, the Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR) is a Washington, D.C.-based organization whose professed objective is to "ensure that the citizenry has the information and analysis that allows it to act effectively in the public interest." …

In an October 1999 Z Magazine article, CEPR’s Weisbrot inveighed against “the worst excesses and irrationalities of a market system” that allegedly caused “crises, panics, overshooting, recessions and even depressions.” “[T]he welfare state,” he said, “has softened the impact of these irrationalities and also mitigated the injustices that result from market outcomes.” Weisbrot urged nation states to impose their own "regulatory mechanisms," not least by establishing "socialist" governments

CEPR consistently lauds the professed achievements of socialist regimes, most notably Venezuela…

In a November 2005 column, CEPR claimed that the corruption-plagued Venezuelan system exemplified "the way democracy is supposed to work."

In a January 2007 interview, Mark Weisbrot defended Hugo Chavez’s attempt to do away with private property in Venezuela, to silence all opposition media, and indefinitely to extend his political dominion over his nation. Since many of the enterprises seized by the state were “previously state-owned,” Weisbrot explained, “there is nothing all that radical about returning them to state ownership.” …

The Democrats’ complaints, based on a CEPR report, all make sense now.

So, along with the socialists manipulating climate data, they also manipulate data about, well, everything else. Who knew?

What a phrase: “…the injustices that result from market outcomes.”

Yes, having a free market system results in injustices. Failure is an injustice. It’s not fair. Personal responsibility is something that the government does for you. It watches you, protects you and tucks you in at night. And then when you stop being a tax-paying troll, they submit your name to the death-panel…which consists of 7 to 10 “very smart” people who then decide your fate. You were not allowed to buy separate insurance to cover any medical expenses the government wouldn’t pay for (it’s the law!) so…you were relegated to the decision-making process of some dweebs who, rather than actually practice medicine, found their niche in the pencil-pushing, keyboard-clacking world of “health administration”. Yup, just like everything else in the world….the peter principle works even better in the socialist environment.

And, I’ll be one of the victims….a diabetic with a thyroid problem who’s currently 50 years old. The government will cease to care for me the moment I retire. Not like they care for me now…but I’m still paying taxes.

I didn’t ever want to have to look at my next phase of life with fear and worry. Thanks to the hippies and a lot of my own generation, it’s looking worse and worse all the time. Thanks.

    I dunno.

Maybe the half a trillion that was redistributed from Medicare funding to support Obamy’s lay-about sychophants might, just might have an impact on the “death rate” of seniors. Ya think?

But no matter what, we will all die under the cram down “No Health Care
Bill” brought on by President Slug Trail.
