Sebelius Threatens Insurers – Yet Again

From an approving Associated Press:

HHS Sebelius exhorts insurers to get on board

March 10, 2010

WASHINGTON — The head of the Health and Human Services Department is sketching out a stark choice for the nation’s insurers: oppose reform and eventually lose customers, or work with the Obama administration to improve the legislation.

Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told health insurers Wednesday that if overhaul fails, premiums will continue to rise and employers will cancel coverage. She said the industry may make money in the short term, but it won’t work for Americans and it eventually won’t help insurers.

Sebelius urged the insurers to help create a sustainable market where all Americans could buy coverage. She said they should spend the millions that might go to attack ads on reducing the cost of premiums.

The White House released excerpts of her speech.

Never mind that, as we have previously pointed out, the sole intention of the Obama administration is to destroy private health insurance.

Why else would they be trying to force insurance companies to take on pre-conditions? Which means that many if not most people will happily wait until they desperately need insurance coverage for an illness or accident before they resort to buying any.

Of course this is the precise opposite of the insurance industry’s business model. Which requires that the risks be shared over a large enough population to make it financially sustainable to carry.

    Case study in Fascism.

The Administration has jumped the shark with its efforts to ‘campaign’ this crap into law. Thus, each speech by one of his court jesters is nothing more than raw material for ridicule by tea partiers and other political malcontents.

So I say, ‘bring it on.’ 11/2/2010 is the day we read the obituary on this Obama-nation.

All one has to do is read between the lines. Sebelius ,Obama, Reid, and Pelosi are telling the insurance companies to capitulate, or the Government will take their customers away. As Steve has already said, this has been the plan all along. MAKE them insure pre-existing conditions immediately, and make them price themselves out of the market by passing on those massive costs to the rest of consumers, which the Government will be in direct competition for, and then will swallow the health insurance industry whole.

The cost of private insurance is currently being driven up by government cuts in Medicare and Medicaid.

There is no free lunch. Care givers such as hospitals and physicians have to be compensated. When they are not fully compensated by Medicare, they have to pass along their uncompensated overhead to patients under private insurance.

We may see more of this soak-off to private insurance when Obamacare cuts an additional $500B out of Medicare coverage for seniors.

And the resulting rate-hikes in private insurance will then be used to justify nationalization.

    Hi all ..

Only been able to watch from a distance for awhile; but have managed to at least read up on S&L just about daily on the run.

The absolute lunacy of this o-blah-blah gang is stunning .. and constant.

But .. the S&L’rs commentary is still the best!

    Deciphering the “Obama Code”.

“Wall Street Speculator” = Jews from NY
“Sustainable” = Utter Collapse so long as Obama is in charge of it
    “Unsustainable” = Free enterprise

Now we have “Insurance Companies” Hmmmm. Let’s see, where do a lot of insurance companies come from? The midwest. (e.g. Mutual of Omaha, Thrivent).

    Got It!

Insurance Companies = American companies run by white racists.

  8. Proreason stole mah thunder. This type of unrelenting diktat used to be reserved for the IRS or EPA, but Pres. Obama seems h3ll bent upon turning all the departments of the Executive branch into an economy crushing steam roller.

BTW: around these parts (the Missouri/Kansas border) we used to refer to the former governor of Kansas, Ms. Sebelius, as “kitty kat.”

    Just because.

This is not about Health it is about 1/6th of Our wealth and freedom going to George Soros and the SEIU Pension Plans and making sure you have to pay the government to work.

It is the destruction of the constitution and the end of freedom

  11. BillK says:

It doesn’t matter whether it’s “shark jumping” or not.

It looks like they’ve got the votes, and literally nothing can stop them.

Not like that hasn’t been the truth all along, it’s just sad to see it finally happen.

Health insurers are toast, as are medical providers and pharmaceutical companies.

Ironically the only sectors of the economy (other than the Government, of course) that have shown growth in the past few years.
