How nations commit suicide, part 666. From The Politico this morning:

“Poll: Barack Obama rising with Jews – in Israel

“In just a year, Jewish Israelis’ opinion of President Barack Obama has turned on its head, according to a new Saban Center for Middle East Policy poll.

“A majority, or 54 percent, now say they have a favorable view of the U.S. president — a year ago, just 41 percent of those polled viewed Obama in a positive light.

“In 2011, 39 percent say they have a negative opinion of Obama, another far cry from his 2010 numbers when 51 percent said they were not fans of Obama. That’s a net 25-point upswing for Obama in Israel.

“The good news from Israel offsets the slight negative turn Obama has seen from Jewish American voters: In a Gallup poll released in September, four out of 10 said they disapproved of Obama, and his approval ratings fell from 60 percent in June to 55 percent….”

Great. Now the son-of-a-bitch will register every Israeli to vote in the 2012 elections…..just tto offset the poor numbers in the US.

Have you EVER been contacted by a pollster in your entire life? I haven’t, and neither has any of my family members. I don’t believe any of the polls, especially when trillions of dollars are at stake. People will manipulate whatever they need to, to get the results they want.

Jimmy Carter had about a 40% approval rate, however I have NEVER met 1, and certainly not, 4 out of 10 people, who liked Jimmy Carter.

The Republican nominee need only to run on one issue, “Hello, my name is not Barack Hussein Obama” –and they will win in a landslide (same as how he ran being NOT George Bush, despite having a razor-thin resume). Don’t listen to the polls. If they have to go all the way to Azerbaijan to find anyone who sorta-kinda likes Obama, they are in BIG trouble.

Obama: U.S. to stand up for gay rights abroad
    By Laura MacInnis, Reuters

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama told U.S. diplomats and foreign aid workers Tuesday to do more to advance gay rights abroad, a move that promotes U.S. human rights policy and appeals to a key Democratic constituency at home.

In a memo released the same day as pop singer and gay rights advocate Lady Gaga visited the White House, Obama said he was deeply concerned about violence and discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people worldwide and called for efforts to prevent and respond faster to abuses.

But Obama’s message offered nothing new to activists campaigning for same-sex marriage in the United States, a sensitive political issue.

Nonetheless, his announcement was welcomed by a leading U.S.-based group representing gays and lesbians.

So how’s that whole tanking economy/rampant unemployment problem working out…?

    • DW says:

Oh by the way, there’s a new memo out…

The old term LGBT (referring to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered people)
is now to be known as LGBTTIQ or (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Transsexual, Intersexed and Questioning people).
As referred to in the Ontario Government’s newly minted ‘Accepting Schools Act’

I’m not sure what an ‘intersexed’ person is. Even my fancy iMac computer’s spellcheck has never heard of it.
And I’m sure I don’t want to know.

    • The Redneck says:

Down South that’s what we call women of loose virtue.

“You’ll have a real easy time with that’un–she’s really intersex!”

  3. JohnMG says:

…..”I’m not sure what an ‘intersexed’ person is…..”

    That’s easy. I heard one of these types was involved in an accident just the other day. According to the police report, he was ‘rear-ended’ while stopped at an intersexed-ion. :-}

Montcalm County gets homeland security snow cone machine

STANTON — The United States is fighting terrorism — one snow cone at a time.

Montcalm County recently received a $900 Arctic Blast Sno-Cone machine.

The West Michigan Shoreline Regional Development Commission (WMSRDC) is a federal- and state-designated agency responsible for managing and administrating the homeland security program in Montcalm County and 12 other counties.

The WMSRDC recently purchased and transferred homeland security equipment to these counties — including 13 snow cone machines at a total cost of $11,700.

The machines were funded by a grant from the Michigan Homeland Security Program. The request for a snow cone machine came from another county, but all 13 counties received them.

The purchase raised some questions at a recent Montcalm County Board of Commissioners meeting. Commissioners wondered about the machine and questioned its purpose.

The Michigan Homeland Security Grant Program’s Allowable Cost Justification document, dated May 9, 2011, says the snow cone machines can make ice to prevent heat-related illnesses during emergencies, treat injuries and provide snow cones as an outreach at promotional events.

WMSRDC Executive Director Sandeep Dey said one county requested a popcorn machine, but that request was denied. He said the snow cone machine request would not have been granted by itself, but was approved because it came with other homeland security equipment.

It is used to attract people so they can be educated and prepared for homeland security,” Dey said from his office in Muskegon. “More importantly, they (homeland security officials) felt in a medical emergency the machine was capable of making ice packs which could be used for medical purposes.” …

School turns heating off to ‘save planet’

Fury as kids shiver on coldest day

    By John Coles

A HEADTEACHER got a roasting yesterday for turning the school heating OFF on one of the coldest days of the year — to save the planet.

Pupils shivered in coats, hats and scarves as temperatures fell to just 1°C (34°F).

Head Rob Benzie switched off the radiators to show how the secondary school could cut its carbon footprint.

But some staff and parents slammed the “barbaric” plan.

One teacher called it “beyond stupid” and added: “It was absolutely ridiculous.

“I’ve never worked in such cold. I’m all for saving the planet but this was barbaric.

“Nobody could work properly and kids could not even grip a pen through their gloves.” The mum of a 12-year-old at Ansford Academy in Castle Cary, Somerset, said: “She was shaking when she came home. I was absolutely furious.”

A dad added: “Turning the heating off in December is just mental.

“I can’t believe the kids learnt anything. I’m very angry with the school.”

But Mr Benzie, 52, defended the “successful” experiment last Friday — locally the coldest day of the winter so far — and vowed to stage regular “eco-days” at the 640-pupil school.

He said: “We cut the heat to see if we can lower our carbon footprint. We let pupils wear as many jumpers as they liked.

How long before this practice spreads to the US?

    • Petronius says:

“Scrooge had a very small fire, but the clerk’s fire was so very much smaller that it looked like one coal.  But he couldn’t replenish it, for Scrooge kept the coal-box in his own room; and so surely as the clerk came in with the shovel, the master predicted that it would be necessary for them to part.  Wherefore the clerk put on his white comforter, and tried to warm himself at the candle; in which effort, not being a man of a strong imagination, he failed.”

Look at the picture… this thing, built by top Iranian high school juniors in Shop no doubt, looks like the spacecraft used by Kang and Kodos from The Simpsons a lot more than it looks like anything we’ve got.
