Selected News For The Week Jan 7 – Jan 13

This thread is for the busy bees of S&L to post news articles that may not warrant their own thread.

Posting Guidelines

To make the articles as readable as possible, please:

  • Only post ‘hard news’ from establishment media outlets.
  • Avoid editorials and ‘thought pieces’ unless they are truly newsworthy.
  • Eschew major news items that most people will likely have seen elsewhere.
  • Post articles that fit under the topic of a recent thread as a comment there.
  • Always spell out the name of the source and post a link to it.
  • Always post less than one quarter of the original article.

Posts of articles that do not follow these guidelines may be edited or deleted.

Thanks!

Tucson School District Bans Mexican American Studies

Republicans are STARTING TO GET ITwith baby steps, but here is the real answer to this:

    1. Cloward / Piven: Overwhelm the system. Take a page out of the liberal playbook and do what they do during Christmas. Since they can’t eliminate the Nativity, they crush it under an avalanche of other religions and symbols.
~If these racist studies are allowed to stand, then flood the system with an “all or nothing” mentality.

    2. Elect school board members, to FIRE all principals & teachers who go along with the program. Expel all students who promote racism in the schools, let them go to another school, or another state.

    3. Protest at the homes of all people who promote this racism. Protest at the homes of all news media people who give positive news coverage to racism.

    4. Take to the fight to the legislature, and inevitably the courts, protest the judges at their homes if they make a decision favoring racism, protest their children, their wives….ALL LEGALLY OF COURSE.

Are Republicans willing to finance, fight and scrap and walk the thin line of legal or illegal conduct to get what needs to be done? —Sadly, the answer is ‘no.’

The democrats are willing to do that, and so much more, and that’s why the Republicans will usually lose out to them. It’s a war, they treat it like a war. They ignore laws, change laws to fit their needs, give or take away funding to bribe people, cheat at the polls, then if they don’t win take it to the courts, corrupt music, movies, textbook, comic books, television, news with political propaganda….nothing is off limits to them.

UPDATE!Case in Point: MSNBC suspends Pat Buchanan. http://www.wnd.com/2012/01/cri.....-buchanan/
The left will invent racism etc, to get rid of people they don’t like, while REAL racism in ethnic studies programs are usually met with an eye-ball-roll and a shrug of the shoulders by Republicans. Why tolerate this? Where is the fight at the grass-roots level to get real results, not just elect people who keep the seat warm for the next election….

Obama orders U.S. Navy War & Destroyer Ship to rescue Somalia pirates & Iranian Sailers in spite of threats coming from Iran not to.

Iran media complains it was an over dramatized Hollywood publicity stunt by Obama.

Question? Did we learn anything from the USS Cole and unidentified muslims in boats?

Question: Was Obama using the incident hoping Iran would blow up a U.S. Navy so truthers would say he used our military as fishing bait to start a war.

Discrimination suit filed against Elway dealership
    AP: http://news.yahoo.com/discrimi.....1;spt.html
    Jan 10, 2012

A former employee is alleging workers were routinely subjected to racial discrimination at a California car dealership partially owned by former Denver Broncos star John Elway.

This is just in case Republican John Elway runs for political office. Whiners! They complain they didn’t get a promotion in 8 years. It’s a car dealership morons! How many positions can you possibly move up in a dealership for chrissakes! Take your years of experience and move on to greener pastures, get your own dealership, or get out of the biz.

If you don’t hire minorities, you’re a racist, if you do, you better pamper them, otherwise you’re a REALLY big racist. When are minorities ever racist? –Apparently never.

I’ve been looking at grants lately, and thought some of them might be of interest to readers here.

    Funding Opportunity Number: FR-5600-N-24
    Housing Counseling Training Program
    Estimated Total Program Funding: $2,000,000
    Award Ceiling: $665,000

    Additional Information on Eligibility:

Applicants must be public or private nonprofit organizations and must have “tax exempt” status under section 501(a) pursuant to section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (26 USC 501(a) and (c)(3). Applicants must have at least two years of experience providing housing counseling training services nationwide. Applicants may utilize in-house staff, sub-grant recipients, consultants, and networks of local organizations with requisite experience and capacity. However, one organization must be designated as the primary applicant. Sub-grantees must be public or private nonprofit organizations and must have “tax exempt” status under section 501(a) pursuant to section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code [26 USC 501(a) and (c)(3)]. The proposal must include a scholarship element, detailing the full or partial costs to be covered, including travel, hotel, and tuition expenses to be awarded to housing counselors. The proposal must include a testing and certification component demonstrating successful completion of training by the student.

Providing housing counseling training nationwide can’t be claimed by too many organizations. The DoD and ACORN are all I can think of.

    Choice Neighborhood Implementation Grants
    Funding Opportunity Number: FR-5600-N-19
    Expected Number of Awards: 5
    Estimated Total Program Funding: $110,000,000
    Award Ceiling: $30,000,000
Cost Sharing or Matching Requirement: Yes

Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grants support those communities that have undergone a comprehensive local planning process and are ready to implement their “Transformation Plan” to redevelop the neighborhood. HUD is focused on directing resources to achieve the following three core goals: 1. Housing: Transform distressed public and assisted housing into energy efficient, mixed-up income housing that is physically and financially viable over the long term; 2. People: Support positive outcomes for families who live in the target development(s) and the surrounding neighborhood, particularly outcomes related to residents’ health, safety employment, mobility, and education and 3. Neighborhood: Transform distressed, high-poverty neighborhoods into viable, mixed-up income neighborhoods with access to well –functioning services, high quality public schools and education programs, high quality early learning programs and services, public assets, public transportation, and improved access to jobs. The plan must focus on the revitalization of a severely distressed public housing or HUD-assisted multifamily housing project located in a distressed neighborhood.

At least this doesn’t seem earmarked to super specific organizations, but 30M is a lot of money. That would buy half the vacant houses in my city (~25k residents, ~400 homes for sale) before matching. Though, it seems largely to repair malfunctioning public resources. Presumably, these properties were mismanaged or abused into their bad condition, and if they were privately owned I’m less inclined to think they would be in such a state.

Perpetual NH candidate fails to crack 40% in his neighboring state:

    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-50.....omney-win/

“After virtually living in New Hampshire for 5 years and spending untold billions, Mitt Romey is projected to win 37% of the votes of Republicans in New Hampshire, his best state by far. Romney campaign operatives proclaimed this to be a forceful demonstration of the candidates national appeal.

In related new, Barack Obama has asked Johnny Depp to begin planning his victory party in mid November, with the theme being ‘The life and times of a political pirate’ ”

(I made the quote up. You’ll have to read the article to get the official spin).

    Conservatism still ascending: http://www.gallup.com/poll/152.....20Politics

Political ideology in the U.S. held steady in 2011, with 40% of Americans continuing to describe their views as conservative, 35% as moderate, and 21% as liberal. This marks the third straight year that conservatives have outnumbered moderates, after more than a decade in which moderates mainly tied or outnumbered conservatives…

Independents — who make up the largest political group in the country — have been steadier ideologically than either major party group over the last decade. However, since 2008, the proportion describing themselves as moderate has declined slightly, from 46% to 41%, and the proportion who are conservative has increased slightly, from 30% to 35%.

I have a rule of thumb which is that every time somebody declares the Tea Party dead, it’s typically because of the latest way in which it’s continued to be very much alive and effective.
