$ 424 per gallon for green Navy in 2009, as Obama outsources fuel from Canada in update by Senator.

The Hill: The not-so-great ‘Green Fleet’: President Obama’s
      skewed national defense priorities

      By Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.)
      July 17 2012

      Dear Mr. President,

There has been a lot of recent attention on U.S. biofuel policy and specifically, your administration’s utilization of the Defense Production Act to push through development of drop-in fuels by the Department of Defense (DoD) at an unreasonably expensive cost to the taxpayer. The U.S. Navy famously spent $424 per gallon for 20,000 gallons of biofuels, and in December 2011, it purchased 450,000 gallons for $12 million, equaling about $26 a gallon. Now, just last week, Reuters reported that the Air Force spent $59 a gallon.

You have vehemently claimed that requiring DoD to spend exorbitant amounts of an already stretched budged on alternative fuels is about national security and Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus has echoed your works saying “We’re not doing this for environmental reasons, we’re not doing it because it because it’s a good thing to do. W’e’re doing it to remove … one of the biggest vulnerabilities I see for us as a military and as a nation.”

      READ FULL LETTER AT CFACT.ORG

As the Department of Defense (DoD) faces drastic budget cuts, the last thing the military needs is to be forced by President Obama to spend billions of taxpayer dollars on an expensive green energy agenda.

This week President Obama’s green regime at the Pentagon will be in the spotlight as the U.S. Navy’s “Great Green Fleet” – a strike group that the Obama administration hopes to run completely on alternative fuels by 2016 – sets sail as part of training exercises in the Pacific. One would think the fleet would take to the seas with a great deal of fanfare, but the Navy has kept it quiet and it’s not difficult to figure out why. President Obama clearly doesn’t want the American people to know how much his plan to green the military will cost. As Wired magazine uncovered, a recent DoD report revealed that their biofuels program will amount to an extra $1.8 billion a year in fuel costs for the Navy alone.

This ludicrous pricetag is not surprising: through Congressional oversight efforts, we found that in 2009, the Navy paid an outrageous $424 per gallon for 20,000 gallons of renewable diesel, and in December 2011, the Navy purchased 450,000 gallons of biofuel for $12 million, equaling about $27 a gallon. The Navy is not the only service being subject to this great greening agenda: last month, the Air Force bought 11,000 gallons of alcohol-to-jet fuel at $59 a gallon, twice as much per gallon as what the Navy was forced to spend. And all of this is being done by the Obama administration while the president guts our military.

DoD has been forced to drastically cut its personnel, the number of brigade combat teams, ships, fighters, and airlift, and it has had to eliminate or postpone critical military modernization programs. Thanks to President Obama, DoD can’t afford business as usual yet they are being coerced into spending $27 a gallon? Secretary Panetta has been warning repeatedly that President Obama’s deep cuts will have a devastating effect on our military. Knowing this, how can anyone support depleting another $1.8 billion from an already stretched budget?

In justifying their completely skewed priorities, President Obama and his administration have maintained that they are moving forward with this green push so that the military won’t be subject to global spikes in the price of oil. Obama’s climate chief Heather Zichal defended the green fleet by arguing that even a $1 dollar rise in gas prices would cost DoD $30 million. Well, if every $1 dollar rise in gas prices costs $30 million, a $27 increase in fuels costs due to the forced use of biofuels would add up to about $660 million, so that argument falls completely flat.

Realizing that their economic angle is a political loser, they have tried to say that it’s about national security and getting us off foreign oil. They continue to use their old chestnut argument that the United States only has 2 percent of the world’s reserves, hoping that saying it enough times will make it true. But that argument completely fails in the face of a recently released United States Geological Survey (USGS) report revealing that America has 26 percent of the world’s recoverable conventional oil resources and almost 30 percent of the world’s technically recoverable conventional natural gas recourses. This USGS report strengthens what we already know from a recent Congressional Research Service report which revealed that America possesses the largest combined oil, natural gas, and coal resources on earth. If President Obama were serious about energy security and national security, he would open up these vast resources for development, ensuring that our military has access to reliable, affordable energy – and he would immediately approve the Keystone pipeline so we could obtain more resources from our friend and neighbor Canada rather than the Middle East.

So if it’s not about national security then what is it about? Secretary Panetta is the only one who has given us an honest answer – he recently pledged that DoD will be pouring more than $1 billion into alternative fuel technologies in order to combat global warming. The supreme irony is that even if you buy into global warming alarmism, some of the most far-left environmentalists have taken issue with biofuels, worrying that they could actually harm the environment. As Wired magazine further pointed out, “Biofuels might be cleaner to burn. But those reduced emissions could come with a heavy cost: dirty water, eroded soil, pricier food.”

It turns out that the great greening of the military is not-so-great for national security or the environment – it is yet another massive failure, following down the path of the complete collapse of companies like Solyndra.

Instead of pushing forward with this disastrous agenda, the better way is to work with Congress where we have common ground. Everyone agrees that energy efficiency in the military is a worthy goal – efficiencies in usage, infrastructure, equipment and alternative energy solutions that are affordable and make sense are worth pursuing. But biofuels still face challenges because the technologies remain unproven, and DoD should not have to serve as its testing ground.

The sailing of the Great Green Fleet is another wake-up call for Congress to stop President Obama from forcing his green energy agenda on DoD – and we’re are already well on our way. In May, Senator McCain and I introduced amendments to the Defense Authorization bill that would prevent President Obama from making DoD go green at a prohibitively expensive price tag, while he forces cuts to essential military programs. I was pleased that these amendments passed in committee with strong bipartisan support, and the House has passed similar legislation in a bipartisan fashion.

The Obama administration’s aggressive push is too much too fast and it must be reined in. It’s far more important to have a modern force of aircraft, ground vehicles and ships than an anemic one because funds are being directed to experimental technologies; our priority should be to have a strong, formidable fleet rather than a not-so-great Green Fleet.

warns Egypt turning into a haven for Jihadists kidnapping American’s and Jews.

CNN: Clinton warns Sinai could turn into jihadist haven

      By Elise Labott

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned Monday the desert border between Israel and Egypt could become an “operational base” for jihadists if security is not maintained. Israel has raised concerns about the region in the wake of the fall of the Mubarak government.

In an interview with CNN, Clinton said the problem was discussed at length during her meetings in Egypt and Israel.

There is “the potential of jihadists and terrorists taking up an operational base in Sinai,” Clinton said in the interview “….”

Clinton said that Egypt’s new president, Mohamed Morsy, recognizes the danger. Two Americans kidnapped this weekend in North Sinai were released on Monday after three days in captivity.

The secretary of state was diplomatic about Egyptian protestors who hurled tomatoes, shoes and shouts of “Monica, Monica” as Clinton left the newly reopened American consulate in Alexandria.

“But what I was looking for was a chance to hear directly from people, and I knew very well there would be a lot of passion and conviction expressed, which I think demonstrates how invested Egyptians are in trying to make sure their democratic transition works out for the benefit of all Egyptians.”

“The suspect was in possession of a clip with more than 20 rounds, a federal official said, that would have been illegal under an assault rifle ban that expired in 2004.”

As if that would make any difference. Ban us all down to 10 round clips again what happens—bad guy reloads. It’s really educational reading these news reports–always “AK” or “assault style” weapons, it finally is being said he had an AR-15 but who knows if that’s the truth.

The gun blamers crawl out of the woodwork, saying if it wasn’t for guns this would never have happened—you know, it really bothers us conservatives when we see this happen. We don’t want to see children shot, or people killed. We hate these shooters as much as anyone else. But the liberals paint us all with the same brush, that we’re responsible and should go to jail.

It’s always the same argument—conservatives realize the world isn’t a safe place, that there’s bad people around and you should be able to defend yourself. The liberals say it’s all crazy paranoid talk, if everyone had guns it’d be a shooting gallery so no one should have them–and somehow no matter how much someone decides they want to kill people we’ll be “safe.” The Columbine had home made pipe bombs and this guy tear gas—already illegal to own.

How many of these gunmen have really been right wingers? Or more often a dissociated young man who most people would consider liberal or at best apolitical, who’s life spirals out of control and the response to a crisis is to snap.

Isn’t it always the same thing? To most people the quiet loner, nobody would have thought capable of it, until they finally find the few people who did know them and it comes out there were big problems there the whole time. I’ve seen that trait in everyone from the Compton shooter in ’89 who started the first “assault weapons” ban to the Virginia Tech one in 2007.

They’re now saying he was telling police he was “The Joker.” At a Batman movie. That is not the behavior of a sane person, and definitely not a conservative. I knew at least two guys growing up, who are nominally liberal and left wing, but have owned or shot guns, and had the same looney personality–quiet when it mattered, but out of the shell alternately creepy or “funny,” and never really with it. And as anti-Republican and hateful as you can get. I would not have been surprised to have turned on the news one day and seen either of them as a shooter. Fortunately one died of cancer and the other has health problems so bad he’s in a wheelchair.

The liberal response is personal responsibility or action has nothing to do with it. Take away the guns, take away punitive punishment, only allow psychological help for “counseling” and to improve “esteem.” Do anything you want if it feels good, don’t live up to any standards or morals as they’re out of date and hateful against somebody somewhere.

The Europeans and Canadians say they’re safe because of their gun laws—but they’ve had shootings and killings too. Even in the totalitarian Soviet Union Andrei Chikatilo killed over 50 people–as a serial killer. The more they focus on the means and not the cause–this will continue.

the dark shooter’s family is in San Diego, where maybe he got a hold of some “fast and furious weapons”
or smuggled through one of the many tunnels found from Mexico to San Diego.

      • Rusty Shackleford

I posted on another site that guns or no guns, people will find a way to kill. Given the complexity of the human species, in many cases it is impossible to predict how they will act. Some behavior is predictable. Much is not.

But as I said elsewhere, the UK has many violent crimes. They don’t report them much the way the media here won’t say anything negative about D’ohbama. If, perchance every single gun was eliminated in this nation, the news would avoid reporting on the story about the family that was bludgeoned to death with a pitchfork or sledge hammer.

The gun controllers say, “Well, with a gun…the killer has it easy and it’s easier for them to choose to kill”. Not so. Psychology has shown that when a person decides to kill, they will do so regardless of the choice of weapon. People in this country have been killed with everything and anything. Some weapons requiring elaborate tinkering. Guns may be convenient but when a killer makes up their mind, there is little to stop them.

Which brings me to the other aspect of our system of laws. Our society’s laws are not preventative in measure…they are reactive. Thus, when a person breaks the law, they are punished and that punishment is supposed to serve as a reminder to the guilty not to do it again. National Socialists want the police to apprehend anyone who might be thinking of doing harm. This is Soviet-style policing. And, it’s a fool’s errand to boot. But…they are the ones saying….”Gee whiz….with all the evidence…he was quiet…he always kept to himself….he was a loner….gee..what more do you need?”

I keep to myself. I don’t engage many people but I’ve absolutely no desire to harm anyone. I do, however prefer to be left alone. I function just fine at social gatherings but…prefer to be elsewhere. I don’t like gatherings…not because I’m uncomfortable but because the small talk and social conventions annoy me. I do them because I am polite. But it’s downright bothersome.

But the national socialists would have me examined…watched very carefully….hovered over….monitored. And while they were doing that, some apparently “normal” SOB would freak out and kill some people. There is a wide variety of human personalities. They are as many as the stars above. But, because the party of no labels likes to label people they also think they can stop people from doing bad things beforehand. Yet, the national socialists were responsible for getting Nixon to shut down mental health facilities and thus, all those unstable people are now out in public because to institutionalize them would be “cruel”. *sigh*

So they have dropped plunkies all over their own dessert cart.

Which is typical for national socialist “thinking”. And the last note here is that they believe anyone walking around with a holstered weapon is a random act of violence waiting to happen. Yet, terrorism is “man-caused disaster”. They get so wrapped around the axle about how to properly feel about something that they miss the point entirely.

    5. canary

Rusty, Yet, terrorism is “man-caused disaster”

Knock knock. I just posted on hive for bees to talk among themselves, on the sympathy and empathy liberals are teaching our children to have for “man-made disasters”.

Helpless baby’s flipping out in dark, loud, scary movie theaters before they can even understand.

Toddlers who probably weren’t even phased by the massacre, because they’ve gone to scary movies since birth and think it’s normal.

I mean maybe the nut didn’t think there would be baby’s and kids that late.

I can’t believe no one had a gun on them and killed the sob; especially in the middle of the night when the streets are always dangerous.

Homeland Security takes boy with big tumor from dangerous Mexican city to NM for treatment

      By Associated Press,

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A 9-year-old boy with a massive tumor was whisked from a dangerous neighborhood in Mexico in an armored vehicle by U.S. agents and taken across the border for treatment in New Mexico, his family said.

The boy and his parents were snatched Thursday from the gang-infested neighborhood in Ciudad Juarez — one of the deadliest cities in the world — after members of a New Mexico Baptist church saw him near an orphanage and sought help.

The parents of the child, identified by officials only as Jose to protect his family, said the tumor on his shoulder and neck has grown so large that it affects his eyesight and could move into his heart.

With no money for medical care, the family sought treatment in Juarez and El Paso, but did not receive any help removing the tumor, which has afflicted Jose since birth.

Si Budagher, pastor of First Baptist Church of Rio Rancho, N.M., said church members spotted the boy while doing missionary work and felt compelled to help him.

“He just came up to us and offered to carry groceries,” Budagher said. “The Lord put him in front of us.”

Church members only recently resumed missionary work in the border city after suspending visits due to the violence between competing drug cartels. The violence has claimed thousands of lives.

Denise Gutierrez, a victim assistance coordinator for Homeland Security Investigations, said she felt compelled to help as soon as she saw photos of Jose.

“I refused to believe that there was nothing we could do for this boy,” she said.

Gutierrez said the boy and his parents were granted a 45-day humanitarian visa for treatment in New Mexico, and a coalition of U.S. agencies led by Homeland Security Investigations began working to get them into the United States.

The U.S. Border Patrol helped the family enter the country.

So, this is the new function of our border patrol…to help non US citizens into the country for humanitarian reasons. Mexico, the 51st state. Bad enough that they come here and suck up our resources as it is…now we actively go there and seek them out.

Your tax dollars, hard at work.

And before you think me an ogre, not having compassion for the lad, I do. But it is NOT the job of our federal government to use taxpayer money to assist foreign citizens with their health problems. Let me hear about the child in the US who sought government help for HIS tumor and has been denied…probably repeatedly.

The church in this case, should have bundled its resources and helped the child but the Obama administration, seeing a great news article in-the-making, naturally wanted to get the headline right. Aren’t they the people who say that by my having an insurance plane, I’m taking away someone else’s “right” to healthcare?

Asked Friday about the ride in the armored vehicle, Jose’s eyes widen before he covered his face with his hands. “I like it here,” he said.

Budagher said the church has set up a fund for private donations and is helping with the cost of the family’s stay in the U.S. The church is also seeking help from doctors to examine Jose.

Yes, because doctors love to work for free. To be fair, maybe there is a kindhearted doc out there who can do the work for charity. It happens a lot here in the US…but many doctors who do such work, in fact, 86% of all doctors polled recently, have considered leaving the practice of medicine because of obamacare.

It’s still unclear, however, what treatment is needed or if he’ll need to return for follow-up visits.

Yes, follow up visits. Hell, looks like we’re just going to have to make him and his mom and dad citizens just because it would streamline getting them the help they need. (and making them democrats)

“We all trying to stay positive and believe that there is something we can do for this boy and his family,” said Kevin Abar, assistant special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations in New Mexico.

Jose said he’s not sure what he will do when the tumor is removed.

“Play soccer,” he offered. “Maybe ride a bike.”

I hope Jose gets better. But of course, there would be public outcry if, after he was well, we shipped him and his mummy and daddy back to Mexico….so….you can read the writing on the wall on this one.

My biggest gripe though, is why Homeland Security was even involved. A completely illegitimate action by this agency. It violated US law, probably in several areas by doing this.

      • canary

“Asked Friday about the ride in the armored vehicle, Jose’s eyes widen before he covered his face with his hands. “I like it here,” he said.”

Sounds like he’s been in the U.S. been in the U.S.
The illegal children living in the U.S. are taught to cover their faces with their hands or turn their backs, and not speak English they are good at speaking.

It’s 10,000 a day just to stay in a hospital one day, not including tests, operations, xrays.

Which official in Homeland Security and Border control on top approved this.

      • I thought American Healthcare was so horrible that it needed to be wiped out and replaced with O’dumbass care. How is it that American medicine is both greedy-evil, and benevolent-charitable at the same time. Why come to America, where the care is so expensive… of course, because they are poor and can’t afford care.

If you’re poor (without money) the best choice is to go where the care is expensive (requiring lots of money). I have to stop now. My left eye has started twitching again.

Examiner: Drones over America: Lawmakers investigate domestic UAV use by Obama – National Law

July 21, 2012 By: Jim Kouri

The House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Management, chaired by Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), held a hearing titled, “Using Unmanned Aerial Systems Within the Homeland: Security Game Changer?” on Thursday. It was a meeting that received scant media coverage considering the seriousness of the subject, according to several counterterrorism and legal experts.

However, as of June 2012, President Barack Obama’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) appointees have authorized about 60 private and government entities to operate UAVs in domestic airspace. The authorized entities include Federal, State and local law enforcement and academic institutions.

“Some Americans worry such systems will become invasive ‘eyes-in-the-sky’. Others say domestic drones will eventually be armed,” McCaul noted.

There are also lawmakers who are concerned with drones being fitted with weapons systems, as well, which would mean an end run around the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, that prohibits the use of the U.S. military domestically.

What appears to shock those who are apprehensive about domestic use of drones is the fact that not one Democrat politician of any importance has complained about using “spies in the sky” to monitor Americans, said former police captain George Sanchez. He points to the many instances when President George W. Bush proposed antiterrorism strategies that were met by near hysterics by the Democrats, the news media and groups such as the ACLU, and none of those proposals even approaches the level of the draconian use of drones.

“Additionally, vulnerabilities to ‘drone’ hackers exist, as recently demonstrated by researchers at the University of Texas, raising concerns these vehicles could be commandeered by terrorists or others with ill intent….

DailyMail.co.uk: Tree-rings prove climate was WARMER in Roman and Medieval times than it is now – and world has been cooling for 2,000 years

Study of semi-fossilised trees gives accurate climate reading back to 138BC
World was warmer in Roman and Medieval times than it is now

      By Science Reporter/July 11 2011

How did the Romans grow grapes in northern England? Perhaps because it was warmer than we thought.

They say the very warm period during the years 21 to 50AD has been underestimated by climate scientists.

Lead author Professor Dr Jan Esper of Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz said: ‘We found that previous estimates of historical temperatures during the Roman era and the Middle Ages were too low.

In general the scientists found a slow cooling of 0.6C over 2,000 years, which they attributed to changes in the Earth’s orbit which took it further away from the Sun.

Professor Esper’s group at the Institute of Geography at JGU used tree-ring density measurements from sub-fossil pine trees originating from Finnish Lapland to produce a reconstruction reaching back to 138 BC.

The annual growth rings in trees are the most important witnesses over the past 1,000 to 2,000 years as they indicate how warm and cool past climate conditions were.

In the cold environment of Finnish Lapland, trees often collapse into one of the numerous lakes, where they remain well preserved for thousands of years.

Finally they found trees rings with 2025 rings.

But, then the unstoppable global warmers will say the cooling in the last 2000 years is a bad sign.

INHOFE: OBAMA LEANING ON INDUSTRY TO DELAY SEQUESTRATION PINK SLIPS

      July 18, 2012

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today spoke on the Senate floor about the pending Defense cuts under Sequestration. During his speech he said that the Obama administration is “leaning on” industry to delay pink slips that are required by law.

WATCH FLOOR SPEECH HERE and HERE.

“I have every reason to believe, because I’ve heard from people in industry, that the President of the United States is trying to get them to avoid sending pink slips out until after the November 7 election,” said Inhofe. “I would remind him that we have something called the Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, the WARN Act. It requires these companies to give 60 days’ notice of pending layoffs.

“Since Sequestration will take place on January 2nd, these workers must be notified of their pink slip by November 2nd. This is what I’d like to remind those companies: they don’t have to wait. If they want to notify workers today, they can do that. I think it is imperative that the workers who are going to be laid off work as a result of the Obama Sequestration be notified in advance of the November election. We’re going to do everything we can to make sure that happens.”

Under the federal WARN Act, employers must give employees 60 days’ notice of layoffs. That means employees must be notified of sequestration cuts by Nov. 2, 2012 — just days before this year’s election. In some cases, state law requires 90 days’ notice, meaning that some will get the news on Oct. 2.

The Oklahoman reported on a study that shows Oklahoma stands to lose 16,000 jobs under Sequestration. When factoring in potential cuts in military personnel, the number of lost jobs in Oklahoma increases to over 20,000.

In additional remarks prepared for delivery, Inhofe said, “The answer from Senate Democrats to this threat to our national security: use the cuts as leverage against Republicans to raise taxes on small business because they see no political downside in delaying action on the implementation of cuts. Yesterday, an Ernst & Young study showed that such a tax increase would cost our economy 700,000 additional jobs. Under the Obama economy, our nation has endured more than 41 months with at or over 8 percent unemployment.

“So, the options President Obama and the Democrats are giving this nation with this radical approach is fewer jobs on one hand, or fewer jobs on the other hand. We need more jobs – not fewer jobs and we must keep our national security strong. We need a permanent fix now, or at least a temporary fix that removes sequestration from the current political environment.”

It’s Official. Afghan Pollice Defecting & Joining Taliban. Afghan Police that refuse to defect were poisioned. U.S. intelligence and armory going with them.

BBC: Afghan policemen defect to Taliban in Farah province

      July 24 2012

Police and intelligence officials deployed in the province said the commander poisoned seven policemen in his charge who had refused to defect along with him.

“Long before he defected, he must have been passing intelligence and crucial information to the insurgents,” the official said.

Officials said that the equipment taken by the defectors – rocket-propelled grenades, heavy machine guns, radios and police vehicles, including two Humvees – will be a major boost to the Taliban in the area.

Our correspondent says this is believed to be the biggest police defection to the insurgents. Over the past few years similar incidents have taken place on a much smaller scale in the southern provinces of Kandahar, Helmand, Zabul, Uruzgan and in Ghor, Farah, Badghis and Herat in the west.

The province has a strategic position, bordering Iran, and the key Kandahar-Herat highway passes through Farah.

Examiner: Obama outsourcing helicopter purchases to Russian company, workers

Obama Outsourcing Fraud July 25, 2012 By: Jim Kouri

The helicopters were purchased from Russia for over a half-billion dollars, according to Defense Department officials.

The original U.S. contract with Rosoboron Export entailed the purchase of 21 helicopters, with an open-ended option to buy a dozen additional Russian attack helicopters. The deal including engineering services and the 12 optional aircraft costs U.S. taxpayers upwards of $550 million.

“I remain deeply troubled that the (Pentagon) would knowingly do business with a firm that has enabled mass atrocities,” Cornyn wrote.

…said Pentagon officials in a statement. “They’re [the Afghans are] going to need some air force capability.”

One analyst, Jeffrey Cooperston of the Center for Military Studies, claims “the total helicopter purchase-package created at least 1,500 primary and secondary jobs in Russia.”

The allegation from Colonel Fassl is that Lt. Gen. Caldwell was pressured by the nerobama regime to avoid an investigation because it would be politically damaging during the 2010 mid-term elections. According to the DOD IG’s investigation, patients regularly died from routing infections and starvation in the hospital. Supplies were replaced with counterfeit goods while the real supplies were stolen and sold across the border to Pock-ee-stohn. All of this paid for out of our pockets.

      The Blaze has more:

Colonel Mark Fassl, who testified Tuesday, said he was shocked when Lt. Gen. William Caldwell cited the then-upcoming 2010 congressional elections as the reason not to investigate the hospital.

The general reportedly said at the time: “How could we … make this request with elections coming? He [nerobama] calls me Bill.”

Senator Inhofe questions Obama’s punishing U.S. Military Christians vs. waiver for Gay Pride Parade

INHOFE QUESTIONS WAIVER FOR MILITARY PARTICIPATION IN GAY PRIDE PARADE

      July 24, 2012

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC), in a letter to Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta today questioned the decision to allow uniformed service members to participate in this past weekend’s gay pride parade in San Diego.

“Based on the current standing DOD Directive 1344.10 and separate service department regulations, service members ‘shall not march or ride in a partisan political parade,’” wrote Inhofe in the letter. “These directives and regulations are unambiguous and straight forward with the intent of preserving the military’s apolitical stance. If the Navy can punish a Chaplain for participating in a pro-life event or a Marine participating in a political rally, it stands to reason that DOD should maintain the same standard and preclude service members in uniform from marching in a gay pride parade. I respectfully request a detailed explanation of the rational you used to grant this ‘one time waiver’ of DOD policy, who requested the waiver, why this waiver was considered justified over other requests, and whether you are considering other exceptions to current policy.”

Inhofe is concerned the Obama administration continues to force its liberal social agenda on the military by promoting the homosexual agenda, mandating the use of high-cost green energy initiatives, pursuing abortion rights, and suppressing the free exercise of religious liberties. Outgoing Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz was recently quoted in a news report saying his concern is with “people in leadership roles – commanders’ roles – who did not appreciate sufficiently…the need to exercise care in how they articulate their faith.” Schwartz added that he is worried when commanders “appear to promote” particular beliefs, because those under the command could feel “at a disadvantage if they did not align accordingly.”

These comments, targeted at religious beliefs, do not appear to apply to promoting the liberal social agenda.

Hostility towards religion in the military under the Obama Administration

April 2010—Franklin Graham is disinvited from a National Day of Prayer event at the Pentagon.

August 2011—The Air Force stops teaching the Just War theory to officers because the course is taught by chaplains and is based on a philosophy introduced by St. Augustine.

September 2011—Air Force Chief of Staff Schwartz prohibits commanders from notifying airmen of chaplain programs and services available to them.

September 2011—The Navy issues guidelines for Walter Reed Medical Center stipulating that “No religious items (i.e. Bibles, reading materials and/or artifacts) are allowed to be given away or used during a visit.” Once the issue became public, the Navy reversed the decision.

September 2011—The Pentagon directs that military chaplains may perform same-sex marriages at military facilities in violation of the federal Defense of Marriage Act.

November 2011—The Air Force Academy rescinds support for Operation Christmas Child, a program to send holiday gifts to impoverished children across the world, because the program is run by a Christian charity.

February 2012—The U.S. Military Academy at West Point disinvites three star Army general and decorated war hero Lieutenant General William G. (“Jerry”) Boykin (retired) from speaking at an event because he is an outspoken Christian.

February 2012—The Air Force removes “God” from the patch of Rapid Capabilities Office (the word on the patch was in Latin: Dei).

February 2012—The Army silences Catholic chaplains, ordering them not to read a letter to parishioners that their archbishop asked them to read regarding abortion and the Obama Administration’s policies.

AP: Judge: Fort Hood suspect could be forcibly shaved

      July 25 2012

      FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) —

Fort Hood spokesman Chris Haug said Gross gave Hasan the choice to shave on his own or be forcibly shaved sometime before his court-martial begins Aug. 20.

Hasan, 41, is charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder in the November 2009 massacre, the worst shooting incident on a U.S. military post. He faces the death penalty if convicted.

But on Wednesday, Gross said he wanted Hasan in the courtroom to prevent a possible appeal on the issue if Hasan is convicted.

Hasan’s defense attorneys argued that he had not shaved in observance of the holy Islamic month of Ramadan. Ramadan is expected to end just before the court-martial starts.
