      From MSNBC:

Disappointing jobs report may be skewed by data quirks.

By John W. Schoen, Senior Producer

Friday’s report showing a sharp hiring slowdown in March lends weight to suspicions that a string of positive monthly reports may have been too good to be true.

But the disappointing numbers for March may not be as bad as they seem. The problem, say economists, is that unusual weather and seasonal adjustments may have thrown this winter’s data out of whack.

It’s those tricky seasonal adjustments that keep throwing the numbers off!

Despite the relatively mild weather, the construction industry shed 7,000 jobs in March, according to the government data. Those numbers helped confirm some economists’ suspicions that this winter’s jobs reports may have been skewed upward by the formula used to adjust the data for seasonal factors.

Like many economic statistics, the government’s employment data is adjusted to factor out recurring seasonal trends, such as the surge in temporary hiring by retailers and by the postal service during the holiday season. The purpose is to get a better idea of underlying, longer-lasting trends.

Seems to me that it’s a failure. Personally, I’d rather see the raw numbers and make up my own mind, but what do I know?

The unusual severity of layoffs during the recession of 2007 may have thrown the numbers off course this winter, especially given the unusually mild weather in much of the country. The result is that many economists say the March number may be understating the job market’s true strength.

Oh, wait. Actually the tricky seasonal adjustments mean the economy is actually better than it looks. How foolish of us to believe otherwise. I guess we’d best leave the thinking to our benevolent overlords, we’re much too unintelligent to try to understand sophisticated economics on our own.

According to the Labor Department’s latest monthly survey, employers added just 120,000 jobs in March, well short of the expected pace of more than 200,000 reached in each of the previous three months.

Despite the lackluster gains, the official unemployment rate fell a notch to 8.2 percent in March, the lowest since January 2009, but only because fewer people were looking for work.

And here’s the bottom line: The government’s official unemployment numbers are systematically underreporting real unemployment.

Transgender wins right to compete beauty pageant. This is another ole “I felt I was in the wrong body” but she had hormone treatment and surgery to make her a female. Again, no evidence she was born with a problem.

Trump screwed up on this landmark. Now any man can change into a woman and compete.

The requirement should be no plastic surgery. What a joke.

      • Anonymoose says:

Walter/Jenna had plastic surgery and hormone treatment to look like this, while the other women competing had to get by with genes and/or dieting. Her body is much leaner and than a natural born woman’s and is considerably taller–6’1”.

Regardless of all the accolades something doesn’t look right, especially in the face. Also, no surprise “she” took on a different name and is competing in a beauty contest. I really believe this isn’t a “born in the wrong body” syndrome that’s “fixed” by making them a woman and all is happy, but an identity crisis. They can’t handle what they see in the mirror so they make up an identity–often a flamboyant and outspoken one–and spend their lives running from who they were born as.

So now–well the door is open. We have to modernize and get with the program and heaven forbid discriminate against anyone which could cause their feelings to be hurt. There’s no reason now why any competitor in a beauty contest should be disqualified for using plastic surgery or hormones, which will make an already unrealistic and competitive environment that much worse. If teen girls today are feeling pressure to live up to expectations to be unnaturally thin and proportioned nothing like reality, just wait and see how much worse it gets.

ABC News: Donald Trump Has Words for Transgender Miss Universe Contestant

        Apr 4 2012 Katie Kindelan

Donald Trump has fired back at Jenna Talackova, the Canadian transsexual beauty queen who mired his Miss Universe pageant in controversy, and her high-powered attorney who is demanding the beauty pageant be open to all contestants, even those born male.

Talackova was born a male but had sexual reassignment surgery at age 19.

Talackova wants pageant organizers to go further and drop eligibility rules she calls discriminatory.

“Mr. Trump, admit that you are wrong and get rid of your Trumped-up rule,” Allred said during the news conference.

“I did not know that she had a lawyer and especially Gloria Allred,” Trump said today. “In fact, had I known it was Gloria Allred, I probably would not have reversed my decision because, you know, Gloria is easy to beat.”

Talackova and Allred avoided questions during Tuesday’s news conference of whether she will compete if the rule is not eliminated before this year’s Miss Universe Canada pageant.

The blonde beauty’s birth certificate, passport and driver’s license reflect that she is a woman, Allred said during the news conference. They believe that should be enough for the competition.

“I want Mr. Trump to state that this rule will be eliminated because I do not want any other woman to suffer from the discrimination that I have endured,” Talackova said during the news conference.

The beauty queen has not tried to hide her past. In a 2010 YouTube video for Miss International Queen, a transgender-transsexual competition in which Talackova was a contestant, she stated that she began hormone therapy to become a female at age 14.

No telling the edge she’ll have on talent. Or is it only beauty and answering a question.
One thing’s for sure, people are really going to be watching the bottom bathing suit part

She/he is a disgrace as a any role model to enter a pageant.
Is this not admitting he/she real issue in life was he’d rather be a beautiful woman. So vein and arrogant.

Al-Qaida’s online forums go dark for extended period

      By The Washington Post

WASHINGTON — Al-Qaida’s main Web forums have been offline for the past 11 days in what experts say is the longest sustained outages of the sites since they began operating eight years ago.

The first website, Shumukh al-Islam, a primary source for al-Qaida videos and messages, went down on March 22, and since then four others have gone dark.

There remains uncertainty over whether the recent outages were caused by a cyberattack at all, and some skeptics note that some prominent al-Qaida forums remain online.

U.S. government agencies, including U.S. Cyber Command, had no role in the outages, according to officials who would speak about the issue only on condition of anonymity.

For years, U.S. intelligence officials have relied on al-Qaida forums to gather insights into conversations among extremists.

Comments on the handful of Arabic-language forums that remain online reflect the frustration and defiance among users.

“Life without Shumukh and Fida’ is unbearable …
they are the Titanic supporting the foundation for the triumphant sects fighting in Iraq, Yemen, Somalia,” a user identifying himself as Fata Musslim Ghayoor said on the Ansar al-Mujahideen Arabic Forum on Thursday, according to a Flashpoint translation.

“The forums will return,” commented a user identified as “Azam” on a different site. “We are in a media battle with the enemies of Allah. … Even if Shumukh is gone, a thousand other Shumukhs will be born.”

Said one commenter, Al-Muktafi bel-Lah, last week: “I suggest to the brothers having a page for the jihadi forums on Facebook and twitter.”

Obama defense cuts in less than 1 year will mean lead to smallest number of U.S.A.F. military aircraft in U.S. history; number of U.S. Navy Ships reduced to 230 fewer than during 1915; and number of U.S. Military Personnel ground troops to that of WWII.

U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) today attended a GOP press conference on defense cuts with U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz). During the press conference, Inhofe called for a fix for the pending sequestration cuts that wil take effect in January 2013.

      March 29, 2012

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC), today joined Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), John Cornyn (R-TX), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), David Vitter (R-LA), Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), and Marco Rubio (R-FL) in calling for a fix for the pending defense sequestration cuts that will take effect in January 2013.

“These devastating additional $500 billion in proposed cuts to our military forces would take effect just three months into the new fiscal year,” said Inhofe. “The Defense Department cannot wait until after this year’s elections to address this issue. We need to fix it now. President Obama has already gutted our military with the defense cuts contained in his budget. Adding sequestration cuts on top of that will have irreparable consequences.”

Inhofe points to potential cuts under sequestration that could include: terminating the F-35; littoral combat ship; all ground combat vehicle and helicopter modernization programs; European missile defense; delay the next-generation ballistic missile submarine; delay the KC-46 program, reduction in the number of aircraft carriers; and eliminate an entire leg of our nuclear triad.

If sequestration moves forward, the United States will have the smallest ground forces since 1940, a fleet of fewer than 230 ships, the smallest level since 1915, and the smallest tactical fighter force in the history of the Air Force.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has said, “Unfortunately, while large cuts are being imposed, the threats to national security would not be reduced. As a result, we would have to formulate a new security strategy that accepted substantial risk of not meeting our defense needs. A sequestration budget is not one that I could recommend.”

Gen. Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has said, “The impact of the sequestration is not only in its magnitude. It’s in what it does…we lose control. And as we lose control, we will become out of balance, and we will not have the military this nation needs.”

WND: Obama raised money for Islamic causes

Speeches for Palestinian refugees called code for Israel’s destruction
Apr 11 2012 by Aaron Klein

Editor’s note: In 2008, WND thoroughly vetted President Obama’s radical background. The first story examined whether Valerie Jarrett, one of President Obama’s closest advisers, was introduced to the president’s political circles by her father-in-law, a communist sympathizer who worked with the radical Obama mentor Frank Marshall Davis.

JERUSALEM – Back in the 1990s, Barack Obama spoke at fundraisers for Palestinians living in what the United Nations terms refugee camps, as WND was first to report.

Palestinians have long demanded the “right of return” for millions of “refugees,” a formula Israeli officials across the political spectrum warn is code for Israel’s destruction by flooding the Jewish state with millions of Muslim Arabs, thereby changing its demographics.

But in the 1990s Obama was a speaker at events in Chicago’s large Palestinian immigrant community to raise funds for U.N. camps for the so-called Palestinian refugees.

Ali Abunimah, a Chicago-based Palestinian-American activist and co-founder of Electronic Intifada, a pro-Palestinian online publication, recalls introducing Obama at one such event, a 1999 fundraiser for the Deheisha Palestinian camp in the West Bank.

With Weather Underground terrorist group founders Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, Abunimah helped initiate the radical leftist effort to breach Gaza’s borders in January 2010 when the three provoked chaos on the streets of Egypt in an attempt to enter Gaza and join in solidarity with the territory’s population and leadership.

“I knew Barack Obama for many years as my state senator – when he used to attend events in the Palestinian community in Chicago all the time,” Abuminah stated.

“I remember personally introducing [Obama] onstage in 1999, when we had a major community fundraiser for the community center in Deheisha refugee camp in the occupied West Bank. And that’s just one example of how Barack Obama used to be very comfortable speaking up for and being associated with Palestinian rights and opposing the Israeli occupation,” Abunimah said.

Abunimah noted Obama’s unusual stance toward Israel, commenting “these were the kind of statements I’d never heard from a U.S. politician who seemed like he was going somewhere, rather than at the end of his career.”

Abunimah previously described meeting with Obama at a fundraiser at the home of Columbia University professor Rashid Khalidi, reportedly a former PLO activist.

It was WND that first exposed Obama’s long relationship with Khalidi.

“[Obama]came with his wife. That’s where I had a chance to really talk to him,” Abunimah recalled. “It was an intimate setting….”

According to quotes obtained by Gulf News, Abunimah recalled a 2004 meeting in a Chicago neighborhood while Obama was running for his Senate seat. Abunimah quoted Obama telling him “warmly” he was sorry that “I haven’t said more about Palestine right now, but we are in a tough primary race.”

“I’m hoping when things calm down, I can be more up front,” Abunimah reportedly quoted the senator as saying.

Abunimah serves on the board of the Arab American Action Network, or AAAN, a controversial Arab group that mourns the establishment of Israel as a “catastrophe” and supports intense immigration reform, including providing driver’s licenses and education to illegal aliens. The AAAN was founded by Rashid Khalidi and is run by his wife, Mona.

      * WND reported the Woods Fund, a Chicago-based nonprofit on which Obama served as a paid director alongside a confessed domestic terrorist, provided $75,000 in grants to the AAAN.

      * ‘Very active’ terror apparatus

      * Obama’s 1999 fundraising for the Palestinian Deheisha camp raised the eyebrows of one senior Israeli security official who was contacted by WND for comment on the issue in 2008.

      * The official, who was not aware of Obama’s fundraising, noted Deheisha, which is located near the city of Bethlehem, had a “very active” Palestinian terror apparatus in 1999, carrying out scores of deadly shootings against Israeli civilians that year.

      * Two of the most deadly suicide bombings in 2002 also were planned from Deheisha, where the suicide bombers originated, said the security official. On one such bombing, in March of that year, 11 people were killed and over 50 injured, four critically when a Deheisha bomber detonated his explosives next to a group of Jewish women waiting with their baby carriages for their husbands to leave a nearby synagogue.

The two were found dead at a communications facility at the Coast Guard Base Support Unit Kodiak, and authorities were looking for a potential suspect who might be at large, according to a Coast Guard statement.

There is nothing in the remainder of the report that gives any clue as to the motive or suspects in this. For now I guess all we can do is offer our condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the victims and wait for more information.
