This thread is for the busy bees of S&L to post news items themselves.
In order to make the articles as readable as possible, please try to stick to the format described in the first of these weekly editions here.
Of course articles that fit under the topic of a recent thread should be posted there. As always, remember to excerpt heavily and to provide a link to the original source.

There is also a link on this page from Glen Reynolds that elaborates on the NRA-radio issue we at S&L have already discussed in another thread.
Oh hell no! Truth squads my arse! Brownshirts with legal standing is all. Hey! Truth dorks! get your filing done early! Barak Obama dresses in a pirate costume and flits about the wharves in Baltimore on the third Sunday of each month, throwing discarded MacDonald’s cups at passersby and demanding they lower their own taxes by the end of business the next day!
Yeah! I saw him! He signed an autograph, and took videos of himself crooning 40s show tunes in Kenyan to a group of sleeping alligators at the reptile exhibit at the zoo too! he was promising a gazelle in every pot if they would just vote for him! Sue me you bastards! I couldnt come up with any better lies than your vaunted hero does out of hand every day.
the difference is, I dont want to be President, and I can say any damn thing I want protected under the first amendment, and you need to adjust your kneepads and scoot after another ambulance. You dirt bags are the main reason most liberals become lawyers. You have to force your agenda on an unwilling populace. Now go suck a blowtorch, you loser shit birds.
You’re a national treasure, SJ.
This is a great example of what our country would be if BO became president. I mean, after seeing this, is there any doubt that we would become a Socialist/Communist nation under BO?
Hey comrad, the government tells you what can or cannot be shown on TV. Especially if it is against the government.
In China, speaking against the government (even on TV) will get you thrown in jail or worse. Seems like law enforcement in Missouri like that policy…
In case Palin thinks she has family problems. :-)
From the London Daily Mail:
Proving once again, no matter who you are, you can’t quite control the behavior of your children…
Biden goes off his rocker in Wisconsin and (gasp!) invokes 9/11!
From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s “Cudahy Now” site:
No, you and Obama would make sure terrorists get whatever they ask for as we cower in fear of an attack.
Funny, I don’t recall McCain voting to reduce DHS funding.
On the other hand, I’d like to see what other pork barrel funding was involved in the bill McCain voted against.
In case anyone wants to read the truth on the matter:

From the (Denver) Rocky Mountain News:
Uh, if that’s what she really believes, she sort of affiliated herself with the wrong group, don’t you think?
Code Pink “informing” instead of alienating by screaming?
You know, because they’re so silent when trying to disrupt the RNC, or sessions of Congress, or…
BillK; …..”instead of alienating by screaming……”
Oh, I get it now. Instead of screaming “Ow, ow, ow, that hurts. Stop it! Stop it! Why are you taking me away? Ow, ow, ow, I have my rig…..mpf, mpf, mpf…….”
I see!
Barney Frank had just a little bit more of a connection to Fannie Mae in the past.
From the “Business and Media Institute” on Sept 24.
______________________________________________________
The news media have covered the relationship in the past, but there have been no mentions since 2005, according to Nexis and despite the collapse of Fannie Mae. The July 3, 1998, Reliable Source column in The Washington Post reported Frank, who is openly gay, had a relationship with Herb Moses, an executive for the now-government controlled Fannie Mae. The column revealed the two had split up at the time but also said Frank was referring to Moses as his “spouse.” Another Washington Post report said Frank called Moses his “lover” and that the two were “still friends” after the breakup.
Frank was and remains a stalwart defender of Fannie Mae, which is now under FBI investigation along with its sister organization Freddie Mac, American International Group Inc. (NYSE:AIG) and Lehman Brothers (NYSE:LEH) – all recently participants in government bailouts. But Frank has derailed efforts to regulate the institution, as well as denying it posed any financial risk. Frank’s office has been unresponsive to efforts by the Business & Media Institute to comment on these potential conflicts of interest.
While the relationship reportedly ended 10 years ago, Frank was serving on the House Banking Committee the entire 10 years they were together. The committee is the primary House body which along with the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) has jurisdiction over the government-sponsored enterprises.
He has served on the committee since becoming a congressman in 1981 and became the ranking Democrat on the committee in 2003. He became chairman of the committee, now called the House Financial Services Committee, in 2007.
Moses was the assistant director for product initiatives at Fannie Mae and had been at the forefront of relaxing lending restrictions at the company for rural customers, according to the Feb. 23, 1998, issue of National Mortgage News (NMN).
“Herb Moses, who helped develop many of Fannie Mae’s affordable housing and home improvement lending programs, has left the mortgage industry,” Darryl Hicks wrote for NMN. “Mr. Moses - whose last day was Feb. 13 - spent the past seven years at Fannie Mae, most recently as director of housing initiatives. Over the course of time, he played an instrumental role in developing the company’s Title One and 203(k) home improvement lending programs.”

So besides the contributions, Frank seems to have had quite the “emotional” attachment to Fannie Mae as well.
Have we done to ourselves what Osama bin Laden could not?
Shock Forced Treas. Secretary Paulson’s Hand.
The magnitude of this problem will ripple through World markets for years. And the face of American capitalism has been horribly disfigured. Is it really just a house of cards easily blown down by such a small percentage of ‘toxic’ investments?
Obviously.
Sort of. Because those charged with guarding the hen house from the fox sought their own windfall rather than doing their duty. For years.
And there are those in the World, not our friends, who are watching very closely.
To the islamo-fascists, the Twin Towers symbolized the collapse of the great satan’s financial power. It didn’t work, and only served to strengthen our resolve against an external enemy. But this latest devastation is a self-inflicted revelation.
We have almost accomplished, through our own myopic malfeasance & criminal culpability, what OBL could only fantasize about in his wildest ‘great satan’ dreams.
The cartoon character ‘Pogo’ was prescient: We have seen the enemy, and he is us.
It would be interesting to juxtapose the current financial market foundations in the Islamic world against those in the West, and see who is superior right now; who has the power to leverage; who has the power to manipulate and possibly topple, the other.
And don’t think it hasn’t crossed the minds of the islamo-fascists. They’re gloating. And waiting. And devising new ways to incorporate new tools - those of financial folly & digital disaster - into their arsenal against the West.
“We have seen the enemy”….. let’s not aid & abet them.
Hmm. Something on Michelle Malkin’s site just caught my attention. The link took me to NewsBusters, which in turn took me to DeHavelle.com. It casts a new light on Obama’s transparent one-upmanship.
http://www.dehavelle.com/2008/.....-bracelet/
Obama’s lie is so egregious, it deserves the adverb, ‘DASTARDLY’.
Can’t we allow dead soldiers to rest in peace?
I’m not talking about S&Lers, just politicians who wear “The Bracelet.” Remember Seinfeld’s Kramer?
I don’t wear a bracelet, I am sorry for those that died and hope no more die, but we have to win, if DC politicians will allow us and Walter Cronkite types will go away. Well, I can hope for change.
“Obama “Truth Squads”
This makes me so POed that I can’t even see straight! Is this what happened when Hitler came into power? No one saw it coming? Everyone just kept talking about what a great Leader that he was and didn’t see the warnings? The media spread the propaganda and the citizens ate it up ? The citizens kept reassuring each other, “but, he will save the the planet, the people and the poor.” Exactly. (Wait a minute, I don’t think I am talking about Hitler at all, I just got confused.)
I just don’t get it. Could it really be that 50% of Americans have fallen for this garbage? We are in very, very scary times.
SJ, Brownshirts indeed! Thanks for telling it like it is, you never let us down. :-)
Fox news has a copy of the first proposed Bill:
http://www.foxnews.com/project....._Draft.pdf
gateway pundit has a video:
This Bill is worrisome. We have to wonder who they will end up appointing to the “Financial Stability Oversight Board”. It is, supposedly, to be comprised of half Dems. and half Reps. but, when was the last time that you could trust the word of the Democrats? This could be a disaster….. I’m just saying.
Why yes, Iraq war veterans are speaking out and of course, these vets represent the entire military:
From the ultra-liberal (Madison, WI) Capital Times:
Our soldiers are really ruthless killers, racists and homophobes.
Our troops shot civilians. You know, as opposed to looking for the uniforms all al Qaeda members normally wear.
Thanks for that update.
Nice to see a group that averages 25 members in each state (1200 members across 48 states) can get press coverage.
A “civilian” coming towards you carrying a cell phone could be considered “hostile.”
The fact that that is how most IEDs are triggered has nothing to do with that. Nope, it’s just hate against Iraqis with phones.
Imagine that, after Fallujah, or soldiers were allowed to fire in self-defense. Can’t have that.
“We don’t hate you.”
Of course the converse isn’t true, but you know, why bother reporting that?
Holy #$#@.
Could Palin be more or less right and Couric wrong, thanks to an update?
From The Weekly Standard:
Knox, now a student at UW-Oshkosh, described a “game” his fellow Marines played with detainees. During the day, he said, they would leave the Iraqis out in the hot desert sun without water. Finally at night they would give the prisoners some water. Knox spoke of the guilt he now feels remembering that time.
I could swear I’ve seen this movie before. Didn’t it star John Kerry, back during the Vietnam war? And then a remake starring Jesse MacBeth? You’d think they’d at least file the serial numbers off before recycling this yet again.
Our daily Palin hit piece, from the Los Angeles Times:
Personally I stopped listening to Will and Brooks as alleged conservatives long ago.
I don’t disagree that McCain is not exactly my favorite candidate, but Palin as an example of his ineffective decision making?
Lots of other fun comments from miscellaneous “conservatives” they’ve dug up that hate Palin, e.g.:
Watch this space, as it’s likely you’ll never see the LA Times quote any of these people again… unless they continue to make comments decrying the GOP candidates.
Note how they don’t mention the many, many conservatives I’ve spoken to who are only going to the polls because of Palin…
Here we go again; from the Los Angeles Times:
How does one refute the “recollections” of a self-described liberal College teacher who’s been running an anti-Palin site for years?
From the TV Newser blog, no favoritism at all:
Not at all surprising to any of us.
I hope both Russell and Sharratt win.
Can you believe this partisan cr*p is still ongoing?
No, I’m not talking about the bailout bill.
From a delighted AP:
Once again, how is firing people who serve at the pleasure of the President possibly a crime?
Further, when will Janet Reno be indicted for firing them all?
What’s that? Never?
Perhaps the only thing more surprising about this is it wasn’t announced November 1.
I can’t believe Mukasey in this, I really can’t.
From a hopeful AP:
Yep, even though he tied himself less to it than Obama, and at least some of those watching noticed Pelosi promising passage and then the bill being defeated by Democrats, this will hurt McCain.
Sad thing is, the AP is probably right.
Of course the AP also does the analysis that would get Fox News branded a bunch of racists:
Our daily Palin hit piece, this time from the San Francisco Chronicle:
Once again presenting the point - how dare Palin go directly to the people and try to bypass us, the media, as the gatekeepers to the American public.
Reagan did some of that, which is why they hated him until he died.
Frankly Palin needs to hold up a big middle finger to the press, or at least say flat out “You’re trying to destroy me, why should I talk to you?”
Of course who does the reporter get to comment on this?
Only the San Francisco Chronicle could call the extremely far left Pew Center “nonpartisan.”
They’re nonpartisan in the same way Code Pink, MoveOn.org and Daily Kos are nonpartisan.
Of course they’re hopeful anyone undecided won’t know that, and of course the Chron’s core reader will agree that Pew is just as balanced as ABC, CBS and NBC, let alone MSNBC…
From a totally PO’ed AP:
Needless to say, Pelosi and friends will now have to work even harder to convince the American public that they’re doomed and that only Democrats can save them from the mess they themselves created…
How do we pay for the bailout?
Why, legalize pot and tax it!
From the (Madison) Wisconsin State Journal:
Why not legalize and tax cocaine, heroin and prostitution while we’re at it?
After all, they’re “entirely untaxed and unregulated” activities in our economy as well, right?
The AP gets to mention their favorite President again, FDR:
You’ve got to love spin. Of course the jump in the Dow was due to their call for a new bailout, not to the failure of the existing bailout legislation.
A banking collapse is “feared.” By whom, other than the Press, who have been stating it over and over like a mantra, along with images of the Great Depression and FDR?
Why, we need a New Deal! We need a new National Recovery Administration to set salaries and prices!
It would be a catastrophe if no bailout agreement is reached - after all, stocks might continue to go back up!
I have no doubt many sectors of Wall Street want to see the bailout occur - but I wonder what the true hit to the economy would be if businesses had to go back to paying as they went rather than devoting all future sales to paying off the loans they’ve taken out?
What if you once again needed 20% down and a mortgage that would comprise no more than 30% of your debt load to be approved? 10% down in case of a HUD loan that required you to pay for government mandated mortgage insurance in case you defaulted?
Isn’t it amazing that while the press is decrying the “crash in home prices,” the mayor of Los Angeles among others is studying a plan to spend billions of dollars to ensure the availability of “affordable housing” and no one seems to connect the dots.
I spend more of my time of late wondering if it’s not so much of a snow job on the part of Democrats as the fact that a majority of Americans may, in fact, have become that economically stupid and welcome socialization of the economy - banks, health care, pharmaceuticals, and who knows what else - as the right thing to do.
As long as they get bailed out - from credit card debt, from foreclosure, from variable rate mortgages that can, by definition, go up as well as down. From whatever.
Because you know, it’s not my fault.
Hmmm, I didn’t think anything could get a NYC art exhibit pulled unless it favorably reflected on Republicans.
From Fox News:
Of course once again ignoring the fact that only a government entity can truly censor; all other decisions are business decisions and/or drive by aesthetics. Rights the intelligentsia would like to deny private citizens.
After all, once all galleries are owned by the state, the state cannot censor, as it’s “Freedom of Speech,”
There is a method to their madness.
From Fox News:
I’d say once again it would be great if Palin could work this in Thursday night, but frankly I’m not expecting anything at all from her; I still love what she stands for but her performance at appearances since the RNC have been less than inspiring.
Today’s mocking Palin piece, from the AP:
