    From the BBC’s web site:

How Big was the Gulf Oil Spill?
Here is a cool site that shows how big something is in dimensions that you can relate to by placing it in relation to something you know – namely any zip code you choose. The oil spill was MUCH smaller that I thought based upon what the MSN and Our Dear Leader were saying about it. Imagine that…

Also, here is a link to the true size of Africa. It’s huge! You can fit the USA, China, India all of Europe and just for good measure, Japan into it.

    • tranquil.night says:

Interesting factoid: all through the spill, our media masters ran propoganda claiming BP was intentionally manipulating government-released data to show the spill was originally small and under-stated.

It was only this fall when a minor correction was issued confirming it was the government who mis-underestimated, to borrow an old Bushism the Left loved. Anyway, to which little headlines did this report make.

In case we forgot what all that “Boot on their neck”… 70 days late and 20 billion slush fund shakedown business was about.

      great links heykev. Thanks.

Austrian lawmaker denounces Turkish Ambassador in tirade smack-down!

    “Tolerance Romantics….” —-great line!

    • River0 says:

This is brilliant, and should have been reported far more widely. We’re looking at one very courageous lawmaker. There are a lot of IslamoNazis running around free in Europe, and he’s really sticking his neck out. A true patriot who loves his country.

  3. River0 says:

    ‘Smart’s Kidnapper Found Guilty’

WTF? Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped in June of 2002. She was freed in early 2003, and her kidnappers were caught. So now they’ve been convicted!?

This is another reason we’re in deep trouble as a nation. Imagine the cost of a justice system that runs so slowly. This is worse than pathetic. It’s dangerous, stupid, and makes a mockery of the Constitutional right to a “speedy” trial..

Bernard Madoff’s elder son dead in suicide

By Martha Graybow and Daniel Trotta

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Mark Madoff, the elder son of convicted swindler Bernard Madoff, was found hanged in his New York City apartment in an apparent suicide on the second anniversary of his father’s arrest, police and his lawyer said Saturday.

The 46-year-old Mark Madoff, who had worked at his father’s firm, “succumbed to two years of unrelenting pressure from false accusations and innuendo,” his lawyer said. He was found dead in his apartment in the city’s SoHo neighborhood, New York City police spokesman Paul Browne said.

Bernard Madoff, 72, is serving a 150-year prison sentence after confessing to running a decades-long Ponzi scheme that bilked investors out of billions, considered the biggest financial fraud in history.

Regardless what the elder did, this is no fun for anyone. Condolences to the next of kin.

  5. DW says:

Even the Muslim Council of Canada says this is politically correct lunacy, but there’s no stopping liberals…
    Again from Canada’s CNEWS:

Criticism, applause for prison guard accommodations

    By Kathleen Harris, QMI Agency

OTTAWA — Correctional Service of Canada is drawing both criticism and applause for taking steps to accommodate the religious and cultural practices of a female Muslim prison guard — the first ever hired in the country.

The Muslim Canadian Congress called it “apologist” and “politically correct” that CSC is designing a special hijab for wearing inside the men’s federal penitentiary where the recruit will be posted after completing a nine-week training program. MCC vice-president Salma Siddiqui declared it “nonsense” that the employee is permitted to wear long sleeves and gloves to avoid skin-to-skin contact with males and worked out prayer times with the employer.

Siddiqui insisted religious faith should not be a factor on-the-job for any employee who chooses the profession of a correctional officer.

“I don’t think there should be any emphasis on Muslim or not,” she told QMI Agency. “They are being Canadian and politically correct. We do not have to live with that guilt.”

…But Liberal MP Mark Holland sees no problem making certain allowances to accommodate cultural and religious practices as long as institutional security and quality of work are not compromised.

“Wherever possible, you want to see diversity in the workplace and to have a broad range of perspectives represented,” he said. “Within the correctional service, that can often be an important part of rehabilitation when you have different people working in prison who will understand different cultural and religious backgrounds. That absolutely can provide great benefit in dealing with different situations that might arise within those prison walls.”

Holland said the employee is blazing a new path, and hopes employees in all facets of the public service understand the benefits of a diverse work force.

    Full story here:

I’m not sure how things are in the States, but I’m given to understand that being a prison guard in Canada is a damned dangerous job these days. And again, even though the Muslim Council thinks this is silly, there’s just no stopping liberals.

Prayers are carried out 5 times a day and Wudu most be performed before each prayer.

Wudu, A Washing of Only Certain Body Parts
Wudu is essential before offering any of the obligatory prayers. This is done in 9 steps: I saw a demo
      1. Make the intention/blessing. Wash both hands three times.
      2. Rinse mouth with a handful of water 3 times.
      3. Sniff water into the nostrils 3 times.
      4. Wash face 3 times from right ear to left ear.
      5. Wash the right arm, then the left 3 times each.
      6. Wash over head from forehead to neck just once.
      7. Rub wet fingers into the grooves of the ears.
      8. Pass over nape of neck with wet hands.
      9. Wash both feet to the ankles 3 times.

      Ghusl, A Full Body Washing

Ghusl is a full body washing that can be preformed in the bath or shower. It is preformed by washing the hands and face, then the genitals, and then performing wudu as descibed above. Islamicity.com describes ghusl as, “Major ablution of the whole body with water required to regain purity after menstruation, lochia …

      The cleansing rituals might seem exaggerated or excessive to people who are not used to such intense preparation for prayer, but Muslims do not believe their prayers will be accepted if they are not in a state a cleanliness. Ablution and Salah go hand-in-hand in Islam;

Guess she’ll get paid days off each month for full bathing 5 times a day.

Heck, they’d better frisk & body scan the woman muslim guard; she might be on a martyr mission to make a big opening for the muslim prisoners to escape. Remember that US prison protest where all those muslims that got to wear white shirts and hats and they held the guards hostage outside.

Dick Morris gives a great speech.

About mid-way through, he talks about ways he is working with Repubs to defund Obamycare and other idjit programs of the libwits. It makes me optimistic to hear somebody with insider knowledge saying these things.

The guy is funny to boot. He loves his own jokes and has kind of an infectious laugh.

He’s good on Fox. Better at this forum where he doesn’t have to deal with O’Really the pompous know-it-all who doesn’t know a millionth of what Morris knows.

Obama leaves WH press conference to go to party; Bill Clinton stepped up to finish political classic drama. Video and entire story link below.

The Daily Caller: Bill Clinton takes over White House briefing room for President Obama, defends tax Jon Ward – DecsThe Daily Caller – Fri Dec 10, 6:35 pm ET

In terms of Washington political drama, Friday was an instant classic.

President Obama ushered former President Bill Clinton to the White House briefing room late Friday for an impromptu press session, then abruptly left the wonky and winsome Arkansan at the podium by himself to defend the Obama administration’s tax deal.
[ For complete coverage of politics and policy, go to Yahoo! Politics ]

“I’ve been keeping the first lady waiting for about half an hour, so I’m going to take off,” Obama said.

Clinton chuckled, joking, “I don’t want to make her mad. Please go,” and then quickly turned back to the microphone and began taking questions from the White House press corps, which had been given no advance notice of the two presidents’ trip to the briefing room (see video below).

Despite Sanders’ filibuster, the real obstacles to the deal’s passage are in the House, where Democrats are incensed at the deal, in some ways on substance but also in large part because it was brokered directly with Republicans and without their input.

Clinton’s main purpose in appearing before the press was to lobby the public, but even more so House Democrats, to accept the deal.

“A lot them are hurting now, and I get it,” Clinton said. “I have an enormous amount of respect for the Democrats in the House … I regret that so many of them lost.”

“I can only tell you that my economic analysis is…,” Clinton said of Obama’s deal. “….”

…. and said that Democrats cannot play a high-stakes game of chicken with Republicans because the economic recovery is still in a precarious position.

“Look, if we had five percent growth and unemployment was dropping like a rock, maybe you could have the so-called Mexican standoff …,” Clinton said.

“… We must first make sure we keep getting over it,” he said.

“We have got to pull together, and both sides are going to have to eat some things they don’t like,..”

AP: Obama Expected To Sign Child Nutrition Bill
$4.5 Billion Measure Would Expand Free Lunch Programs, Restrict Junk Food
    Dec 13 2010

WASHINGTON — Legislation to provide more lunches and dinners to school children and make the meals healthier is expected to become law on Monday.

LIVE: Obama Signs Hunger-Free Kids Act

President Barack Obama, accompanied by his wife, Michelle, is scheduled to sign the bill at a District of Columbia elementary school.

The legislation increases the federal reimbursement for free school lunches by 6 cents a meal at a time many school officials say they can’t afford to provide the meals. The new funds also will allow 20 million additional after-school meals to be served annually in all 50 states. Most states now only provide money for after-school snacks.

The new nutrition standards would be written by the Agriculture Department, which would decide which kinds of foods may be sold and what ingredients can be used …

Bake sales and other school-sponsored fundraisers that sell unhealthy foods could be limited. The Agriculture Department would determine how often such events may be held…

The bill would increase eligibility and accessibility for school lunches by using Medicaid and census data.

We have poison sugar free drinks already at a high price. Breakfast & Lunch for those that pay is
outrageous. They just don’t notice minorities brand school clothes, latest I-Pod phones, and late model expensive autos to school. They don’t want to. Fact. More free lunches = more fed stimulus money.

Survey shows unremarkable cancer rate in Hinkley

HINKLEY, Calif. — A California state study has not revealed elevated cancer levels in the town of Hinkley, a small desert community whose struggles with contaminated groundwater inspired the award-winning Hollywood movie “Erin Brockovich.”

The California Cancer Registry has completed three studies on Hinkley, where a toxic plume of cancer-causing chromium 6 is once again growing, but found that from 1988 to 2008 cancer rates remained unremarkable. The results were first reported Monday by the Los Angeles Times.

Epidemiologist John W. Morgan says the 196 cases are less than what he would expect based on demographics and the regional rate of cancer. …

    Uh-Oh, Hollywoood’s ‘Angry’

    From Fox News: http://politics.blogs.foxnews.com/2010/12/16/hollywoods-growing-chorus-obama-criticism

Hollywood’s Growing Chorus of Obama Criticism

Hollywood’s adoration for President Obama has never really been all that shocking, but what may be surprising is how famous singers and actors are increasingly saying they aren’t so happy with the commander-in-chief.

The latest comes from singer Barbra Streisand, who on Thursday was asked if she’s disappointed in Obama.

“At first, maybe a little, because I would have liked to have him use his executive privilege to, if that’s possible legally, to get rid of something like ‘don’t ask, don’t tell,'” she said. “I think people admire real strength, even though it’s misguided,” she told CNN’s Larry King.

Streisand actually skipped town for the midterms and slammed Democrats for not getting their message out well enough.

She did add one final accolade though, “Obama. And he’s cool. And he’s very smart.”

It’s Obama’s stance on gay issues that seems to really get the Hollywood crowd going.

“Glee’s” Jane Lynch railed against the president’s stance on gay marriage earlier this year (Obama’s opposed to it, but supports something like civil unions). “Shouldn’t there be safeguards against the majority voting on the rights of a minority? If people voted on civil rights in the ’60s, it would have never happened. It took somebody like [President] Lyndon Johnson going, ‘F all of you! I’m going to do this.’ Obama won’t do it. He’s a huge disappointment to me,” Lynch said to Britain’s The Guardian.

In September, comedian and “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart was asked by Fox’s Bill O’Reilly if he had Obama remorse.

“I think people feel a disappointment in that there was a sense that ‘Oh Jesus will walk on water,’ and now you’re looking at it like, ‘Look at that, he’s just treading water,'” Stewart said.

But Stewart noted, he’s still not quite measuring up, “I thought he’d do a better job.”

    Oh…well….If Jon Stewart is losing confidence….I mean…well.

KISS singer Gene Simmons even went so far as to say he wants to take back his vote.

“I voted because the man that was running was a moment in history. I–in the back of my mind I wanted to show the world that America, the land of slaves…the land that tortured its black population for hundreds of years is also the place of hope that can give an African American the chance to lead the most powerful place on the face of the planet. However, if you take a look at the resume, you couldn’t find somebody–in retrospect–more unqualified.” on CNN’s “Parker/Spitzer” this month.

There are so many things wrong with this statement, it's hard to know where to begin. But, if you want to refer to "America" as the "land of slaves"…perhaps you should check the record. Slavery was abolished on January 1, 1863. So, the "hundreds of years" thing…uh…well…let's see…the nation was founded on July 4, 1776…slavery abolished in 1863….1863 minus 1776="hundreds of years"? (In reality, it was 87 years, but don't tell Gene)

I do have to hand it to him for his 20/20 hindsight on the "unqualified" remark. But hey, easy come, easy go…it's just, like, an election, ya know? Doesn't say exactly why he voted for this “hostorical moment in history” but I’m pretty sure I can guess.

And then..there’s that bastion of intellectual magnitude, Matt Damon:

Actor Matt Damon, who was a very early supporter of candidate Obama, also said he’s “disappointed” with the president’s progress, telling the New York Daily news in February, “Everyone feels a little let down.” “Because on some level, people expected all their problems to go away,” Damon said.

This is why—–he’s an actor people. He can latch on to an emotion and describe it with such….utter depth and charisma. Wow. I’m amazed at the remarkable clarity of character he has shown here. Good Will Hunting, indeed.

    • artboyusa says:

I suppose you could argue that we had slaves in America since the 1600s but what amazes me is Streisand’s assertion that she wanted Obama to be a dictator: “… I would have liked to have him use his executive privilege to, if that’s possible legally, to get rid of something like ‘don’t ask, don’t tell,’” she said. “I think people admire real strength, even though it’s misguided,” she told CNN’s Larry King.

Amazing! The Fuhrer is always right! Thank you, Comrade Stalin, for our happy childhood! Believe! Obey! Fight! All hail the Great Hoopsman! What the hell kind of liberal is that? “I think people admire power…” I don’t. I admire wisdom; which is much more rare, but I’m not a liberal.

Matt Damon donates to Africa, and noticing Bush, Gates, have helped Africa more than Obama has him puzzled. Obama’s loyality is to muslims.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

Artboy, it goes along with something I’ve been saying for years. Largely, Americans are ignorant of our own process of government and think that a president “runs the country”. As in, CEO style and whatever they say, goes. Also, actors are people who latch onto an agent or other “mentor” with a strong personality. It’s somewhat ironic that often those actors who do the best job on the screen, suck at real life and cannot form a single coherent thought when asked for one. But they do understand that people with strong personalities, at least in Hollyweird, get certain things done. Flaming socialists that they are, they think that one element is key for all things and forget that the kid who works in the drug store, the cubicle monkey on the phone for customer service are all vital, contributing people. SOMEone has to do those things. And, in that mix, personal responsibility and following the law become relativistic things so they don’t think they are subject to it as are the “rest of the minions”. In other words, actors are, to a large degree, easily manipulated dupes.
