Senate Panel Passes ‘Retarded’ Re-Write

From The Hill:

Senate panel clears ‘retardation’ bill

By Julian Pecquet – 05/26/10

The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee on Wednesday unanimously approved a bill that would eliminate the use of the words "retarded" and "retardation" in federal health, education and labor law.

Rosa’s Law, introduced by Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), had strong bipartisan support.

It would replace the terms "mental retardation" with "intellectual disability" and "mentally retarded individual" to "individual with an intellectual disability."

What a retarded thing to do errant nonsense.

Like it or not, ‘retard’ and ‘retardation’ are scientific terms with actual carefully defined meaning. Replacing these terms of art with the vague term “disability” will only confuse the already confusing federal laws.

But when has that ever stopped politicians, who seem to think that they can wish a problem away by calling it something else? (See, ‘Islamic terrorism.’)

Notice, by the way, that Mr. Rahm Emanuel’s name does not appear anywhere in this article. Why is that?

In fact, shouldn’t this piece of legislation actually be called ‘Rahm’s Law’? Or maybe ‘Rahm’s Effin’ Law’?

“Effin Rahm’s Effin Retard Retread Act of 2010” is that too much redundancy?

    • JohnMG says:

Me thinks the entire government is “intellectually stunted”. They are obviously suffering from “Acute Mikulski Syndrome”, although how Mikulski could be considered (a)cute anything is beyond my comprehension. She could scare flies off a manure pile.

She would make a good paper weight, though.

    • mr_bill says:

She does resemble a bridge-troll from Grimm’s Fairytales or something like it.

    • JohnMG says:

Actually she resembles a whole host of things. An English Bull Dog, and a 1953 Mack dump truck both come to mind!

(I may be on to something here. The Bull Dog is Mack Motor Company’s iconic logo.)

    • jobeth says:

Not only does she resemble a number of squat items and things, she must be 120 years old!

I moved from Maryland in 1979 and she was a Tasmanian force way back then as well. I’m a retiree and I remember her when I was a young woman.

She was like a little pit bull and always been laughable.

As to the word itself…yet another perfectly good word, misused by adolescent (read that progressive) minded people for nasty comments against all that don’t agree with them. (check any leftie blog for proof of that statement)

Of course we we should ban it! The left can’t be trusted to use it responsibly. SOMEbody has to be the “word police” ( /sarc)

Forget freedom of speech. That’s so….yesterday.

    • JohnMG says:

Now you’ve got me wondering, jobeth. Is she Helen Thomas’ twin sister?

    • jobeth says:

Naw, no one is as old as Helen.

However if you look closely I believe you can see the snakes in both their hair .
They’ve both been around a while. Medusa may have started out as a beauty but…. :-D There is an explaination for everything. lol

  2. proreason says:

If this retarded bill is retroactive, the rewrite of existing legislation will cost millions of dollars.

Imagine how many hard-copy pages there are that will have to be reprinted.

Thousands, perhaps tens of thousands of computer programs will have to be changed as well.

All in all, this is a perfect example of why government is such a massive drain on this country. Even when it isn’t corrupt (which is rare), goverment is a boat anchor on our lives.

    • JohnMG says:

None of this makes much sense. But then again, it doesn’t have to make sense.

Think if all that is happening today. Jughead’s first presser in almost a year. Oil spill capped. Troops on the border. Oil tanker spill. Just to name a few.

All conveniently being dumped into a weekend news cycle that, for all intents and purposes, has already begun, due to the long holiday weekend.

And nobody will listen to much of any of it. It’s a sham, and it’s all contrived.

  3. Reality Bytes says:

Calling Congress a bunch of retards is an insult to uh, well you know.

    • Liberals Demise says:

What are they running in Washington, D.C. now.

      Their very own “Special Olympics”?

  4. Liberals Make Great Speedbumps says:

I’m sorry but “F’in individual with an intellectual disability” just doesn’t roll off the tongue like “F’in retard”. I’m going to have to vote for going “old school’ on this one.

  5. confucius says:

Can’t we just call them “retard-Americans” and be done with it?

    • JohnMG says:

      Looks like we’ve come full-circle.

In view of all of the above posts, how about we just call them………..DEMOCRATS?

    • confucius says:

I love circles! Speaking of which, I’m thinking Democrats are more like “American retards.”

(BTW JohnMG, thanks for explaining the Pelosi/swamp reference.)
