WH Offered Sestak Plum Job To Quit Race

Sestak says federal job was offered to quit race

By Thomas Fitzgerald

Fri, Feb. 19, 2010

Rep. Joe Sestak (D., Pa.) said yesterday that the White House offered him a federal job in an effort to dissuade him from challenging Sen. Arlen Specter in the state’s Democratic primary.

The disclosure came during an afternoon taping of Larry Kane: Voice of Reason, a Sunday news-analysis show on the Comcast Network. Sestak would not elaborate on the circumstances and seemed chagrined after blurting out "yes" to veteran news anchor Kane’s direct question.

"Was it secretary of the Navy?" Kane asked.

"No comment," Sestak said.

"Was it [the job] high-ranking?" Kane asked. Sestak said yes, but added that he would "never leave" the Senate race for a deal.

A White House spokesman this morning strongly denied an offer had been made to Sestak. Before the spokesman issued the denial, a senior Pennsylvania Democrat said Sestak’s account was met with anger by White House officials yesterday.

After yesterday’s taping, Sestak said he recalled the White House offer coming in July, as he was preparing to formally announce his Senate candidacy in August. He declined to identify who spoke to him or the job under discussion. Sestak also would not say whether the person who approached him worked for the administration or was an intermediary for the offer.

"I’m not going to say who or how and what was offered," Sestak said in an interview. "I don’t feel it’s appropriate to go beyond what I said," because the conversation was confidential.

Sestak, 58, a retired Navy admiral, has said that some Pennsylvania Democratic leaders have tried to entice him to drop his campaign with promises of support for other offices in the future. He also has said that Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey, chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, urged him to run when Specter was still a Republican, then tried to force him out after Specter switched parties.

But Sestak has brushed aside talk of White House pressure.

"He asked me the question, and I had to answer it honestly," Sestak said of his exchange with Kane. Sestak said he had declined the job offer immediately and added, "The person said, ‘I knew you’d say that.’ " …

Still, Sestak’s account was startling.

"Clearly, the offers are made," said Ross Baker, a Rutgers University political science professor who specializes in Congress. "When a White House wants to preempt a challenge, they’ll dangle something. But it is almost never uttered."

In addition, Baker said, conversations in such cases are nuanced, and savvy operators know not to use explicit quid pro quo language…

Nachama Soloveichik, spokeswoman for former Rep. Pat Toomey, the leading GOP candidate for the Senate seat, said she had no information on Sestak’s story but added: "It’s just like Arlen Specter to get an insider Washington deal to try to save his political career."

We are shocked, SHOCKED, that the Obama administration would even consider doing such a thing.

It’s not the ‘Chicago Way’ at all.

It seems that the White House is lying …….yet again! Sestak told the TV audience today, twice, that he was in-fact asked by the White House to quit the race. Seems the White House should now be called “The White Wash House”. Liars always lie again and it is only going to get “deeper”.

Politics as usual. Exactly what we must work to rid ourselves of.

It’s hard to understand the motivation.

Specter appears to be in line for a major thumping, even if he gets by Sestek.

I suspect it was part of the deal Specter negotiated for himself when he jumped parties.

And if I’m right, it’s stunning evidence of how far the Chicago criminals are willing to go. In order to get vote 60 for ObamyScare, they were willing to make someone the Secretary of the Navy who has no apparent interest, and might not be qualified (because if he is the best man for the job, why isn’t he the Secretary right now?).

Secretary of the Navy isn’t like the Secretary of Education. It’s a national defense position.

In other words, the bottom feeders are willing to sacrifice national defense, to implement their anti-American agenda.

Pro, Well, he was an Admiral but I’ve met a few clueless Admirals in my life leaving me to wonder how they rose to that position. In fact he was on Greta’s show one day raving about Tricare. Well I’m sure it’s great if you’re an Admiral but it’s not so great when your husband is a Major. I called his office and evidently they had received a lot of calls that day because the guy (who was very nice) said that he understood that it rubbed a lot of people the wrong way because he gets calls from military folks wanting the Congressman to talk to Tricare all the time.

No doubt it was part of the deal that Snarlin’ Arlen made when he FORMALLY switched parties.
As to his getting a thumpin’, the White House and the democrats don’t care about Specter; his usefulness to them ended the day after he switched parties and became yesterday’s news.
He was unreliable as a republican and when he switched, he was stupid enough to shoot his mouth off and say that he wouldn’t be a guaranteed vote for the democrats.
He needs another magic bullet, like the one he claimed went through the governor of Texas, then John Kennedy, and fell out of Kennedy’s body intact. Then he’ll be news again and a happy little camper.

So who am I to believe is lying here? Perhaps a WH that changes it .gov pages when it becomes inconvenient for them (and then lies about that) and a POTUS who lies every time he opens his mouth [I insert a mea culpa here, Mr. Obama did tell the truth once – 5 days before the election when he said they were poised to ‘fundamentally change America’ – so once he did tell the truth] or a guy who is attempting to run against a slimy turncoat politico, who is being endorsed by the lying liar in the WH?

I go with the politician who isn’t part of the WH insiders club – me thinks he might be a D who 1) unseats the turncoat Specter and 2) not with the Obama agenda to force Obamacare against the will of the American people.

Wonder which D in this race – the Unions are endorsing – might just be another factor that illuminates who is lying in this tale of political corruption.
