I find the NAACP distasteful, but they do prove a point. They are living testimony to the statement, "A mind is a terrible thing to waste."

What an assemblage of moronic wasteoids!

Even though I thought the cartoon was distasteful, Al Sharpton is the LAST person that should be demanding an apology. I'm still waiting for his apology for his racist tirade against the White Duke Lacross players.

Why is Al ALLOWED to be racist himself, but still lead a legitimate fight toward equality?

Why on earth is Benjamin Todd Jealous trying to make being black a shameful and embarrassing thing? I dont get it! Only people who are ashamed of who they are can be offended by a cartoon that has nothing to do with them! Jealous saw Obama as a dead chimp, as did the other race baiters who saw a rare opportunity for a halfway decent meal ticket by pointing out what THEY saw, and not what the artist intended.

Every person on the planet except "professional black" black people see it as a cartoon depicting a retarded congress writing a totally bogus spending bill. Only hyper psuedo sensitive professional racists seem to take umbrage with it, and that is only because they can extort money by using calling on all blacks to be as ashamed and embarrassed by their color as they are....

They make the KKK look like diversity champions by comparison. I have stopped caring about "black sensitivity" just as much as I could give a damn about "muslim outrage". they are one in the same, a few opportunists trying to use their race or religion to gain power and position and further their own private agendas.

The NAACP is using racism of their own making against their own people~!! It boggles the mind!

Is anyone surprised? The stupidity continues!

NAACP wants NY Post editor and cartoonist fired

The head of the NAACP on Saturday urged readers to boycott the New York Post, calling a cartoon that the newspaper published an invitation to assassinate President Barack Obama.
Benjamin Todd Jealous, president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, called on the tabloid to remove editor-in-chief Col Allan, as well as longtime cartoonist Sean Delonas…
Jealous said the cartoon was "an invitation to assassination."
…A spokeswoman for the newspaper referred The Associated Press to the paper's editorial when asked Saturday about the proposed NAACP boycott.
Jealous called the editorial "a half of an apology, without elaboration."
The drawing, he said, "picks off the scabs of all the racial wounds."
He spoke as the NAACP gathered for its annual meeting in New York, where it was founded a century ago.
NAACP officials said that if the Post does not take "serious disciplinary action," they would reach out to organizations across the country to join them in their efforts against the tabloid.
NAACP Chairman Julian Bond called the publication of the cartoon "thoughtlessness taken to the extreme. ... Anyone who is not offended by it does not have any sensitivity."

IMHO, that linked article reads more like an attempt by AP writer Karen Mathews to spin the NY Post editorial into a pseudo apology.

Here is the actual NY Post editorial regarding "That Cartoon", in it's entirety.

THAT CARTOON

Wednesday's Page Six cartoon - caricaturing Monday's police shooting of a chimpanzee in Connecticut - has created considerable controversy.

It shows two police officers standing over the chimp's body: "They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill," one officer says.

It was meant to mock an ineptly written federal stimulus bill.

Period.

But it has been taken as something else - as a depiction of President Obama, as a thinly veiled expression of racism.

This most certainly was not its intent; to those who were offended by the image, we apologize.

However, there are some in the media and in public life who have had differences with The Post in the past - and they see the incident as an opportunity for payback.

To them, no apology is due.

Sometimes a cartoon is just a cartoon - even as the opportunists seek to make it something else.

The NY Post editors are right, "Sometimes a cartoon is just a cartoon".
I believe the editors are still thumbing their noses at Sharpton and the rest of his race baiting ilk. Rather hilarious really.

Just my two cents worth. ;o)

The NYT's caved under pressure. Just like I knew they would. They have no courage to weather any criticism and yet wonder why their sales and circulation are dropping. But I think at the heart of it all is that this once powerhouse of liberalism is fearful of seeing their influence over people's lives rapidly slipping away.

Funny, I just can't recall "Racist Al" protesting any of the editorial cartoonists who drew very disparaging cartoons of Condoleezza Rice.

As a reminder to any left-wing lurkers reading here, these are parts of a IWF press release denouncing the the treatment of Miss Rice in these cartoons back in 2004.

""The depiction of Dr. Condoleezza Rice by Jeff Danziger, Pat Oliphant and Garry Trudeau as an ebonics speaking, big-lipped, black mammy who just loves her 'massa' is a disturbing trend in editorial cartoons," said Michelle D. Bernard, senior vice president of the Independent Women's Forum. "These cartoons take the racism of the liberals who profess respect and adoration for black Americans to a new level. It is revolting."

also.............

""The most powerful woman in the United States is young, gifted and black. Given our nation's history of race-based slavery, the ensuing civil rights movement and our continual battle against race- and sex- based discrimination, every citizen in our nation should take pride in Dr. Rice's accomplishments," said Bernard. "She is a representation of America's past and future all at once. One must ask where is the outrage of the nation's civil rights leadership, feminist organizations, and the so-called liberals who only seem to embrace black America in election years?""

Another example of left-wing racist hypocrisy for the pile. They will search under any rock looking for something to twist and turn and spin in order to make it a racial issue, but compeletly ignore the obvious racial smear when it involves a Republican or Conservative.

Yep, but it's not good enough for the pimpdaddy Sharpton. He's organizing a riot, er, rally tomorrow (Fri) at 5pm, because the NY Post took one day to cave in. It was "belated" in this guy's mind.

How many more instances like this can we honestly take in the next four years without someone resorting to violence? Who would have seen this cartoon worth getting this upset over? Only those seeking to lead a rebellion, making case after case for his followers to get agitated and hysterical over...and motivated.

It's only been a month, and I see NOTHING but doom and misery so far from Obama.

It's like a dark cloud has moved in over us since he took over.

Obama’s candidacy would set race relations back forty to fifty years. Does anyone have any doubts now? No doubts at all, JohnMG.

I'll up your anty, though: I am ready to say that this race-baiting and agitation that him, Holder, Wright, Ayers, etc, peddle is not just idle talk. Can a Harvard grad who was weened on communism be saying these racial bombs without knowing their potential result?

Is the reverence he shows for Lincoln not just symbolism of his blackness connection with the president who freed slaves...but instead symbolism to connect the president who started a civil war in 1861 with the president who may start one in 2009?

I knew I had a good reason for Morgan Freeman being one of my all-time favorite actors ... even though he's probably as liberal as hell with everything else.

"Look at that little monkey run!"

Howard Cosell, 1983

They've come so far.

Yet Bush has been caricatured several dozen times as a tree-swinging primate. At least...he was portrayed as a primate. I think calling Sharpton a primate would elevate his status on the evolutionary scale.

IN 2004, The actor and Academy Award winner, Morgan Freeman said, "You wanna stop racism? Stop talking about it."

Brilliant....absolutely brilliant.

It truly would be amazing if the race baiters would simply drop it and stop the witch hunts (can I say that....."witch" hunts or is that an anti-religious remark?) and trying to find "evidence" of racism every time a major football player kills his ex-wife and her close friend.

*sigh*

I have no doubt you are correct, proreason.

But white people cannot do it alone. What will help is if all ethnicities decide that giving advantages due to skin color isn’t doing anyone any good—especially if black people start doing a whole lot better than they are as far as employment, placement in college, heck, even getting more welfare benefits!

That sounded mean. I’m sorry.

Here in San Jose, there is a Vietnamese city council woman who is facing recall because she opposed naming a shopping row “Little Saigon.” Because there were Hispanic-owned businesses in the area, she felt that the area would be better off named “Saigon Business District.” The city put $150K aside for signage (yeah, I know. Pretty damn dumb. But this is San Jose... chock full ‘o special interests who have outstretched hands positioned palms up waiting for the money.

Read about it here: http://vietworldkitchen.typepad.com/blog/2008/01/little-saigon-c.html

Anyway, the group of people opposed to this was a small but very vocal p.i.t.a. bunch and there are many who predict that this little battle will set back Vietnamese people’s electability for quite some time.

Same thing will happen because of TCO but only if another ethinc group becomes as outraged as many of us are. I can’t even go so far as to say “outraged whites” ‘cause there are still plenty drinkin’ the kool-aid.

I'm in my early 60's and have lived and worked among all manner of minorities. Back in October I made a prediction here on S&L that I've heard mirrored several times. That prediction was, win or lose, Obama's candidacy would set race relations back forty to fifty years. Does anyone have any doubts now?

I have gone far beyond half-way in trying to bridge the racial gap for way more than 75% of my life. No more! If speaking the truth makes me a racist, then I'll wear the appelation as a badge of honor. I owe them nothing more...indeed, I'll even go so far as to begin claiming some of my good will back. I refuse to be the punching bag any longer. Likewise, I am no longer the piggy bank for social engineering programs designed solely to punish me for being a life-long productive member of society, based on the color of MY skin. "They" can expect to be treated in kind, even to the point of violence if necessary. And believe me, should it come to that, I will show no quarter!

The ball is now in "their" court.

Whenever I read stuff about “racism” I wonder how it is I am supposed to behave.
I’ve had to take cultural awareness coursework while studying to become an RN (the “group” that was giving health care problems back then was the Hmong), as part of my undergrad degree (a waste-of-time class called “Mass Communications and Culture”), and then two classes about racial differences in the context of sport.

The undergrad class was taught by a black man who was s former local television talking head. The class was about 90 students, dominated by Asian and Latino students, a few less whites, and a lot less blacks.

I asked the professor how I am “supposed” to relate to my friends who happen to be non-white. Isn’t it an insult to them if I identify them first and foremost as my Latino friend, my black friend, etc.? Isn’t it better to notice other qualities and physical attributes of my professors, friends and co-workers (“My mass comm professor Bob who used to be an anchorman at Channel 5”) instead of saying “My black professor named Bob”—and I got no real answer. Isn’t it better to be color-blind? Is it better to go to the other side of the street when you see a black or Latino person walking on the same side of the street as you are? Are we supposed to be scared of each other and assume that every black man is out to rape and murder white women?

The professor berated me in front of the class for even claiming to be color-blind. I don’t make decisions to be friends (or not) based on a person’s skin color. Never have. That class, despite the As I got on exams and essays, and my class participation, was one of the few Bs I got at SJSU.

In grad school, there were a fairly even mix of black and white students, with a couple Latinos and Asians. We would get into heated discussions with one of the black men in the class, James, who was as racist as I have ever seen (his father was a minister somewhere in SF). One of the other black men in the class went off on him one night, accusing him of being the worst racist he’d ever met, after James went into a “the only way I will feel part of this society is if the United States makes reparations to me for slavery.”

I dragged my daughter to class one night after she’d had surgery a couple of days before and when James went off during class, she listened to his tirade and said “that’s bullshit. You don’t like me because I’m white. That’s your preconceived notion of me. I approached you with an open mind ready to listen to what you had to say.” She was all of 20 years of age at the time.

This was at a Catholic university.

So what am I supposed to do and how am I supposed to act? It’s not enough to treat people equally regardless of sex and skin color—and I will do no more than treat people equally. I call bullshit on all sorts of affirmative action.

Boy oh boy, do people in this world get worked up about cartoons!

If it isn't the hyper-sensitive jihadists, it's the hyper-sensitive liberal maxihadists in this country.

We have all kinds of crazy a**-clowns in this country, what is even worse, is when there are people lined up to support them, those are the people too stupid to know anything.

I would love to see 1000 people show up in chimp suits and march in protest with sharpton, that would be hilarious!

Another demo-lib gore-bot owes back taxes? Say it isn't so! Wonder why their "one and only" didn't offer al a spot in his cabinet? He would fit right in. They must have enough broom pushers. This man(I use this term very loosely) is as crooked as a dogs hind leg, or should that be a chimps finger?
