Sheila Jackson Lee Rewrites Vietnam War

From (the bottom) of the well of the House, via YouTube:

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee on North and South Vietnam

“Today we have two Vietnams, side by side, North and South, exchanging and working. We may not agree with all that North Vietnam is doing, but they are living in peace.”

History may not repeat itself, but Ms. Jackson has repeatedly proved that stupidity does.

(Thanks to NickB for the heads up.)

Only two things can be said about this very sadly stupid woman:
    1) This is what is wrong with our current government, society & World – that such abject stupidity can be in government (and will remain there even after making such a stupid comment).
    and
    2) You can’t fix stupid, but you can VOTE IT OUT

  2. proreason says:

Sheila Jackson is a mainstream Democrat. In every respect

  3. pamypo says:

Demorats must be so proud. I know I glad to find out my years spend there were not wasted.

  4. Rusty Shackleford says:

The problem can be directly attributable to our system. By that I mean that when you have a collection of people vying for office, yet none of them are remotely qualified, yet you have to vote for SOMEbody, this is what you end up with.

Now, the disclaimer is that on occasion, a non self-involved person gets into politics but if you had the opportunity to follow each and every politician’s career, er, actually, their life, you would note how they react to the spotlight and if/when/how they sought it out.

Truly, Washington is Hollywood for ugly people, but no less mentally lacking as is witnessed by the utterings of Pelosi (“You have to pass the bill in order to find out what’s in it”), Reid (“That might be a problem in some area, but not in Nevada”), Frank, Holder (“nation of cowards”) and now SJL. I mean, their comments are not that far away from those of starlets and even established notables while walking into the Oscars.

Perhaps the reason for this is that the truly able, the truly intelligent, the truly remarkable people enjoy competition and head out for things that gratify their need for challenge and success. Government, by its very nature is cumbersome and boring. Big business, the military, professional sports, indeed most other avenues of life are fraught with risk, wins and losses. Those who can cope with that are drawn to it as well. At the same time, those people are more concerned with making a living and trying to carve out a satisfactory existence for themselves and their families.

I noted at a very young age, those enamored with politics are the school gossips, the busybodies and the troublemakers. On the other hand, the other side of that spectrum was the aloof, the know-it-alls and the smart-asses. Sometimes they encompass all of those traits. This is not to say there aren’t good, decent people who wind up as politicians but I will say they are rare.

And, the ultimate thing about politics is that it affords a person who is ignorant, inept and incapable an opportunity to wield power; Whether it be at the local PTA or the city or town council or any other committee. For me, I detest politics. I would make a lousy representative other than I would do my best to hold my constituents wishes. But, again, many who get elected to higher power seem to think it’s a “long road to the big brass ring” and they start living like royalty on the public monies.

I’ve mentioned this before where the insular world inside the beltway has its own culture and fashion and customs. I would submit that they are probably almost all categorically bad for the people at large as they further insulate the representative and they become immune to reality as, obviously, their own world is just fine.

I do wish I could talk to a psychologist about all this. One who is at the forefront of human behavior and knows the what/why and how of this. I am but a pedestrian and can only make assessments based on what I see and hear.

But, to the larger point. Why does this woman say the stupid crap that she does? Well, she is surrounded by similar-minded people who don’t necessarily hear (or understand what she says) but they respond to how she says it. And with such marked conviction, how could she possibly be wrong, eh? It’s obvious that the left listens to other lefties with a far less critical ear than they do anyone on the right. But self-critiquing has never been a lefty’s strong suit. We never hear apologies or explanations or justification from the left; Only more adamant speech, more do-se-do squaredance calling and more ridicule of the right.

At the bottom of it, that’s why AGW is so impressive to a lefty. It’s apparently so complex that the loopy scientists who are hedging their retirement fund with more government grants must know what they are talking about. And with other things. Like, oh, I dunno, running a war halfway around the world….who can’t do that, right? Or, more accurately: Who can’t do that right? The democrats, that’s who. Because they are adamantly opposed to war in all shapes, forms or colors, except for jihad, of course. But to spend a lifetime shunning military service and avoiding any/all people who have ever been in the military, then to be thrust into managing a war and not letting the generals decide how to fight it, is like having my dog call the offense for the Carolina Panthers.

And, even if they want to destroy things from within, they are doing so under with “on-the-job-training” approach. They have no idea what they don’t know. And they don’t like being told what they don’t know so, it even makes their own tasks of destruction that much more difficult. But, point for the good-guys on that subject. For the bad guys are so inept, they are like the crooks who call 911 because they got themselves trapped by two Dobermans while robbing the 7-11.

I am grateful for truly stupid criminals.

So, people like Sheila Jackson Lee are a gift to the right wing. All her life she has pretended to be smart and people who really are smart just avoid her. I’m sure a conversation with her would leave even the average person biting their lip for fear of busting out laughing. And the real comedy is that she would never get the joke. Add to that, if you had the opportunity to point it out to her, her reaction would be anger to cover up her stupidity. Usually, people like her have absolutely zero humility. This is why she will never learn anything and probably why those who were her professors and teachers just pushed her along. Those who held her to a higher standard had to sit there and listen to her whine and cry and yell about why she deserves as high a grade as everyone else. Path of least resistance. Move her along….shut her up….for if you don’t then the cries of racism and bigotry will come out.

We live in a time when there are millions of affirmative action people out there in the workforce, the military, the police, the government and so on. But you can’t identify them as inept, below-average or even uniquely unqualified. They are stricken with the same affliction as the guys who don a uniform from the Army/Navy store and claim to be a decorated war vet. The need to feel important; To have something that gives their life meaning, even if that something is a complete lie.

And that’s where we are. Our government is filled with uniquely unqualified people with the need for attention, to be thought of as “intelligent” and “movers and shakers”. It’s not just sad, it is so bloody dangerous that if we have a national disaster such as an attack on our shores, they would poop their pants and run to daddy (republicans) in order to know what to do. The oil problem is a good example on so many levels. The delays, lack of interest on the part of our government, hearing the boy who sits in the president’s chair flame George Bush for his handling of Katrina and then…moving forward to today and how this whole thing has been manipulated, spun, lied about, controlled, extorted and distorted and so on shows the real agenda, even from an inept, unqualified group of people who are walking to Marx with open arms, not seeing the knife he has behind his back.

Or, if they do, they don’t care because….they themselves are “set” for life.

But morons for bureaucrats was something I used to read about in books written by defectors from the old Soviet Union.

Seems we have plenty of our own.

    • proreason says:

Good essay Rusty, but you may be overthinking this one.

As I see it, there is one key personality trait of politicians, and then two environmental factors that pretty much explain everything you need to know about politic in the US.

Politicians are the people who are attracted to lieing. It’s that simple. Some people love to lie. They are good at it. They enjoy the rush of fooling people. They have the talent. That is the key perrsonality trait. Those people can take the dark road…..con games, ruining their families, crime….or they can take the darker road, political games, ruining the country, casting millions into misery. Note that intelligence has little to do with it. Even dogs can lie. Even Sheila Jackson can.

All of that is generally tolerable and has been easily mitigated in a country that has a tradition of top citizen leaders who actually do something useful before going into politics.

The factors that have changed everything are: first, the money now is so overwhelming that it is galactic catnip to the most evil and talented liars. The biggest criminals used to sit around plotting their ponzi schemes, credit frauds, and business manipulations….now it is so easy to make gazillions as a politician that politics is where the worst dredges of society naturally migrate. Reid, Dodd, Biden, Clinton, Jesse Jackson. The only difference between Reid and the dope dealer murderers in prison is the luck of the draw.

The second factor is the one that has the country on the brink of disaster. Committed, lifelong, 24×7, Leninesque idealogues have taken over the Democratic party. This is a different game entirely. This country is currently overrun, and run by Stalins with better creases in their pants….Obamy, Franks, Holder, Emanuel, Pelosi. Again, intelligence is irrelevant. Cunning stupidity is better. Determination and ruthlessness easily trump IQ. Einstein could have been intimidated by a punk on any street corner.

This is also what is so worrisome about the current situation. Dupes like O’Reilly love to smirk and arch their eyebrows at the Laura Ingrahams who are genuinely concerned for the country. O’Reilly, you see, is wordly wise and he has seen it all. Every day I hear and see a dozen articles by the wordly wise smirkers letting us know that Obamy is just a little pink…the worldly wise have seen much worse. Don’t worry, you ignorant fools. Right, and Lenin was going to be a needed change from Nicholas, or so the smirkers advised.

These criminals can be beaten back, but it is going to take a greater effort that has even been required of this country….because the enemy this time are a pack of cunning snakes to whom lieing and misdirection is as ingrained as love of God is to a pope, and about 100 million people living next door to you have already been subverted.

This has been a mantra personally and amongst my family for this year. I’m happy to learn it’s from President Calvin Coolidge, a mostly enigmatic man who’s emerging a Tea Party icon. By the roll of the dice I’m grateful now to have done a 4th grade report on CC (it was one of the few times I did my homework, also usually a roll of the dice).

“Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence.

Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.

Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.

Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.

Persistence & determination alone are omnipotent.”

But that goes both ways. Liars have no rules. With a twist of the snakes’ tongue, ruthlessness is cunning determination. You only have to be intelligent enough to understand the game, which doesn’t set the bar high. Terrorists get it. Most Conservatives understand the Liberal philosophy/psychosis much better than most Liberals do. El Maha Rushie reigns supreme in calling them on it. Meanwhile the Left is constantly trying to educate, study one another, and then develop a collective narrative with talking points designed to mislead and obfuscate. It’s pathetic especially to us because it’s blatantly obvious usually like here where – well, we know real history and we know what Sheila Jackson is trying to accomplish with this insanity. Like Reagan and the USSR, we just need to stand up to them at every point and it will fold in on itself.

I really enjoyed both your posts.

I disagree only with one point Pro – the ‘cunning snakes’ remark – perhaps in the past Leftists/Liberals/Progressives (whatever label they want to call themselves at the moment (but really they are simply Stalinists/Marxists/Dictators/Slave Masters all rolled into one evil package) may have been cunning to plot, plan and lie in wait for the right time to ‘nudge’ their plans a step or two forward.

But the current crop have no cunning, no guile about them – they are outwardly lying, outwardly distorting and outwardly cheating to ‘win’ their agenda. Thus it is obvious that the majority of the very people they are attempting to ‘rule’ (obviously this term rather than govern applies to our current Administration) are against so much of what has been shoved into ‘law’ since Jan 2009.

And that will be their downfall – if health’care’ was Obama’s legacy – why not wrangle a fairly leftist plan through starting in Jan 2009 – when he had high numbers and this was obviously his ‘most important agenda item’? Because it is wasn’t and even they knew that they could not get it through at all, ever. So they had to destroy the economy, ruin the job market and test drive a few governmental take-overs to realize that they could go for the whole enchilada – a full government takeover of the health care system. And raise taxes (buried deep in each and every bill passed since the Jan 2010).

The problem is – that Americans won’t stand for it – and the consequences of letting election fraud (Franken, ACORN, & the NBPP) go un-punished, and voting through against the will of the majorityof American citizens tax hiking, un-Constitutional legislation will indeed be extreme.

And while these people do extreme (lying, emo, distortion) to the max – they do not understand the result of taking a mile when they cheated, lied and distorted (and smeared) to even obtain an inch.

Never forget that the stupidity of Carter – gave us the common sense of Reagan and that the obvious lying of Clinton ended the 40 year Dem control of Congress.

With the extreme leftist nature of what has happened in the past 18 months and the lies and cheating and total abrogation of any sense of non-partisan or honest reporting of the media – the consequences should be extreme.

I am hoping for a massive take back of Congress in 2010 – not a civil war to restore America to being – simply America.

    • proreason says:

“perhaps in the past Leftists… may have been cunning”

      yes.

They are certainly out of the closet now. It’s the proof they think they have won the grand prize of a perpetual dictatorship.

Hence, no compromise, no Clintonesque triangulation, no moderation, no bones to the public. Only hard-core, emphatic control, taxes, intimidation.

They strut, they preen, they don’t bother to sugar-coat it any longer. He plays golf while the Gulf burns….in your face motha. He invites an opponent to an opening….and disses him in the speech. Thugs preen with billy clubs and are let go…..how do ya like it now honky? Pass a law that 60% of the country detests ….strut through the angry crowd with a gavel and beeming smiles. Take the crown jewel of American achievement….make it a Muslim outreach program. The most sacred of America’s allies….give them a cassette of your speeches. Call the Founders rich slaveholders. Call the Constitution a failure. Call hard-working Americans bitter clingers. Lie that you are a Christian…..contemptuously disavow the ruse when the office is conscripted. Don’t even pretend to defend the multitude of lies anymore

They are absolutely certain they have won a permanent victory.

Dogs are easily intimidated by clubs and threats.

      Are you?

Clearly an I.Q. over 80 is not required to be in congress.

  6. Nimblicity says:

At first I wondered if she just said “Vietnam” when she meant to say “Korea.” Then I realized her comments don’t make anymore sense about the two Koreas than they do about Vietnam or anywhere else on this planet.

All I have left to wonder now is if that level of oblivion is accompanied by a dull ache, or a pleasant buzz. Or perhaps just a persistent numbness…

BTW South Vietnam is getting overpopulated, and is in danger of capsizing and sinking into the South China Sea.

    • canary says:

I don’t think Sheila Jackson’s American ancestors would be happy if the American Civil war was not fought where young boys & men died.
And I don’t think Sheila Jackson would want to live in any other country in the world, but the USA.

  7. wardmama4 says:

Term Limits – It is what the 50 States need to add to the Constitution immediately I am so tired of hearing ‘ we have term limits, it’s called elections’ drivel. Obviously these lifers have figured out each and every way to stay put in DC. Term limits would end it once and for all. Common sense – 2 state offices (no more than 2 terms) and 2 Federal offices (again, no more than 2 terms). It would return 1) States rights, the Federal government would lose a lot of their power and control and 2) return the Congress back to what it was meant to be – Public Service.

I’d also go to repealing the 16th, 17th and proposing the 28th (or 29th if the above goes through first) Amendments – that Congress is to live under the laws (retroactive back to their own retirement/healthcare systems being overturned) they pass on all other American citizens. And fix (through specific legislation the 14th Amendment abuse known as ‘anchor babies’).

This is America – no one person or class should be above another – isn’t that real fairness and justice?

    • proreason says:

      yes, yes, yes, and yes

And confiscate every dime of personal wealth for any politician that has exceeded the average increase in wealth of Americans while the politician has held office. If that wealth exceeds 10% of the average American citizen, send them to jail for 1 year for every percent above 10%.

  8. Liberals Demise says:

Just last year at the Town Hall meetings she was on her(?) cell phone trying to get answers to the public’s questions. (yeah…..right)

Another sample of Ebonics and why we are, where we are at this juncture.
Damn pathetic for a supposedly learneded person.
