Shocker: Bomb Suspects Didn’t Have Gun Permits

From an outraged Associated Press:

Mass. police: Bomb suspects didn’t have gun permit

April 21, 2013

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts police official say the brothers suspected of bombing the Boston Marathon before having shootouts with authorities didn’t have gun permits.

Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert Haas tells The Associated Press in an interview Sunday that neither Tamerlan Tsarnaev (tsahr-NEYE’-ehv) nor his brother Dzhokhar had permission to carry firearms.

He says it’s unclear whether either ever applied and the applications aren’t considered public records.

But he says the 19-year-old Dzhokhar (joh-KHAR’) would have been denied a permit because of his age. Only people 21 or older are allowed gun licenses in Massachusetts.

Which is why there are no ‘gun violence’ from gangs in Boston. (By the way, note that the AP says it’s okay to call him Jokar.)

The suspects were also accused of hijacking a Mercedes on Thursday night.

Haas says the pair didn’t release the driver, but he escaped when he was left alone while the two men entered a convenience store.

Meanwhile, we have more details from the New York Times:

Suspects Seemed Set for Attacks Beyond Boston

WASHINGTON — The two men suspected in the Boston Marathon bombings were armed with a small arsenal of guns, ammunition and explosives when they first confronted the police early Friday, and were most likely planning more attacks, the authorities said Sunday…

The Boston police commissioner, Edward Davis, said the authorities believed that Mr. Tsarnaev and his older brother, Tamerlan, 26, had planned more attacks beyond the bombings at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, which killed three people and wounded more than 170. When the suspects seized a Mercedes-Benz sport utility vehicle and held the driver hostage, they told him that they planned to head to New York, the senior United States official said Sunday.

A detail that has been remarkably under-reported, despite the news media’s obsession with New York City.

It was not clear whether the suspects had told the driver what they planned to do there.

Yes, we must not jump to conclusions.

Mr. Davis told CBS News’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday: “We have reason to believe, based upon the evidence that was found at that scene — the explosions, the explosive ordnance that was unexploded and the firepower that they had — that they were going to attack other individuals.”

Ya think?

Along with determining that the suspects had made at least five pipe bombs, the authorities recovered four firearms that they believe the suspects used, according to a law enforcement official. The authorities found an M-4 carbine rifle — a weapon similar to ones used by American forces in Afghanistan — on the boat where the younger suspect was found Friday night in Watertown, Mass., 10 miles west of Boston.

Two handguns and a BB gun that the authorities believe the brothers used in an earlier shootout with officers in Watertown were also recovered, said one official briefed on the investigation.

A BB gun?

The authorities said they believe the suspects had fired roughly 80 rounds in that shootout, in which Tamerlan Tsarnaev was fatally wounded, the official said.

But no one needs more than ten bullets to defend oneself nowadays. In fact, all you need is a shotgun.

Among the unanswered questions facing investigators are where the suspects acquired their weapons and explosives, how they got the money to pay for them, and whether others helped plan and carry out the attack last Monday…

And how how they got the money for their fancy cars and clothes and trips back and forth to Russia and rent for an apartment in Cambridge, without ever having a job.

Mayor Thomas M. Menino of Boston said he believed the brothers were not affiliated with a larger network…

Someone should warn the Mayor not to jump to conclusions.

After all, who trained them how to make pipe bombs and suicide vests?

And according to the police, the 19 year old killed his wounded brother when he ran him over. I’m pretty sure he had a “permit” which enabled him to use the vehicle as a deadly weapon.

    Just sayin’

  2. GetBackJack says:

Did they have a valid permit for a high capacity pressure cooker? Because if they used a six quart they’re going to be in a lot of trouble. A four quart, not so much. Criminals prefer the six quart but know using a four quart will let them slide under the wire.

Has anybody tet asked “where are they getting the money for boxing, wrestling, going to school, food, apartments instead of dorms, cars, gasoline, cell phones, black market weapons, pressure cookers, ball bearings (you try and find a place which will sell you several thousand ball bearings – go on, try) and $50 apiece for pressure cookers.

    Follow the money

Questions that will never be asked or answered: the amount of government assistance paid to the Chechnyan clan as a result of their refugee status?

Training to box professionally is freaking expensive. So expensive many boxers in the Los Angeles area take to acting in porn to pay the bills.

Where was Tamarlan getting the $$$

I’m in Virginia, which obviously makes me a hick bitter clinger racist bigot homophobe, so I’m not up on the law in Boston. Is there any specific statute that prohibits killing people at a marathon with a pressure cooker bomb? No? Then perhaps we should should institute pressure cooker control laws. Tax people for the production of steam, which can be used in pressure cookers to create… pressure. There should be some statute that outlaws nails and ball bearings, because they might be used in a bomb.

Or maybe we should just make the entire country a bomb free zone. That’ll keep us safe.

Our society has gone off the edge. We can’t even call a kid who killed 3 people and injured over a hundred more with a home made bomb a terrorist. They’d be calling it workplace violence if the kid was passing out water along the marathon route. They’d be calling him a lone wolf if his brother hadn’t been with him. The only way they’re going to call this kid a terrorist is if they find out he is a Rush Limbaugh subscriber. But, NO. He’s a Muslim, so he’ll get not only the benefit of the doubt, but the benefit of a justice system that has botched every investigation from Fast and Furious to Benghazi and a government that would rather endanger its own people through intentional willful incompetance than make a muslim feel bad.

You actually can be as young as about 16 to get a rifle permit (FID card) in Mass. You need to be 18 to buy a “non-large capacity” shotgun or rifle which means holds 5 or less rounds and cannot accept a magazine that can hold more. You need to be 21 and apply for a LTC to buy a pistol, large capacity rifle, or a neutered AR-15.
FID cards are shall issue from the police department meaning unless your a felon you can get one. LTC are may issue and up to the police chief. To get either permit you have to apply to your local police department, get interviewed after filling out paperwork for background checks, get fingerprinted, and wait 2 months to over a year (esp for LTC in certain towns/cities).

The state has a listing of large number of guns and rifles that people can’t buy in the state. There is also another list from the state AG office of more guns that you can’t buy. The state also put in a state copy of the original assault weapon ban with 10rd magazine limits. You also need a FID card or LTC to buy ammo in the state and you have to be a mass resident.

GetBackJack, I noticed the NYT left out all the reports on the pressure cooker bomb the two threw out of the car at law-enforcement. Reports were it fell apart or it would have killed many people.

Friends said they often saw the older brother driving around in a Mercedes, and no doubt they stood there waiting til they came across to a Mercedes.

I also watched an interviewed of a heavily accented auto body mechanic who said the younger one came demanding his girl-friends auto though the bumper and headlight damage wasn’t repaired yet. He said he’d had the car for two weeks, but hadn’t got to it yet.
He said the 19 year old was biting his nails and acting stranger than he ever had in the past when fixing his cars and just figured JoKar was on drugs.

So, where is JoKar’s girlfriend who owns the car or did JoKar lie that it was his girlfriends?

I am surprised how long it took to identify and catch the Boston bombers. Now law enforcement is saying because of their very actions they committed once their photos were released.

Is there such a long Islamic extremist list the FBI had to go through.
Since in moms own words, the FBI told her weeks before the FBI told her, her son was dangerous and that they were following him, as for her to claim they were set up, perhaps the FBI didn’t want to be accused of “profiling” like the NYC police dept has received grief over.

No excuse for not catching them earlier, unless they have a very long list of radical Islamic extremists.

If there is a long list of radical Islamic extremists, then isn’t the idea of the 2nd amendment to
form defense against a day that all the extremists come out on the same day and declare a national Jihad day?

And the story about the boat with blood drops report changed from what the boat/home owner said, to what authorities said at a later date. Also, the gun fire audio of dozens of gun shots changed too. I think if someone is in a boat in your backyard dangerously firing a gun, or on their balcony with a shot gun blasting away at you, you should be able to shoot if you are not safe. Just as if your head is being slammed repeatedly into the cement and you know this is life-threatening. Imagine not having enough bullets if someone has their knees on your shoulders holding you down slamming your head onto the cement. It might be difficult with arms pinned down to hit your target.

If the US can blindly give Islamic rebels drones with bombs, assault weapons, and war planes, just hoping that they will be used wisely and stay only in the hands of good Islamic rebels and no child will be injured, then we owe our own civil country at least the right to bear very lethal arms for the chance of a national jihad day the radical Muslims may call for such as on the 4th of July when there are so many parades of people and children.

Forget crime growing if more stringent gun laws disable the honest, the chance of a national
jihad day would be more likely, as shown by these two individuals who had an entire city of Boston on lock down.
