Shocker: Honduras Wants More Aid (‘Mini-Marshall Plan’)

From Reuters:

Honduras wants ‘mini-Marshall plan’ for U.S. aid on migrants

By Gustavo Palencia | July 16, 2014

TEGUCIGALPA (Reuters) – Honduran officials on Wednesday called for U.S. aid to Central America to reduce violence that has fueled a surge of child migration to the United States, with the foreign minister calling for a "mini-Marshall plan" to attack the broader underlying problems.

Honduran President Juan Hernandez said Washington should help Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras fight gangs with a plan similar to U.S. anti-drug programs in Colombia and Mexico, as well as funds to lift growth in the impoverished region.

Yes, just look at how Mexico has put an end to their drug cartels. But the begging never stops. Everyone always has their hand out to Uncle Sugar.

"One has to recognize that our countries can’t do it alone," he said at a conference about the unaccompanied minors fleeing for the United States. "We need help from the United States, from Mexico, because this is everyone’s problem." …

And once we give them more money it will be back to: ‘Yanqui Go Home!’ Besides, Honduras clearly haven’t gotten the Obama/Kerry memo.

The Monroe Doctrine is officially over. Everyone in the Western Hemisphere is on their own.

From the archives of the Wall Street Journal:

Kerry Makes It Official: ‘Era of Monroe Doctrine Is Over’

November 18, 2013

…. Secretary of State John Kerry declared the expiration of the nearly 200-year old lodestar of U.S. diplomacy in the Americas. “The era of the Monroe Doctrine is over,” Mr. Kerry said in a speech at the Organization of American States in Washington, D.C.

That prompted some tepid applause, which Mr. Kerry encouraged: “That’s worth applauding. That’s not a bad thing.” …

Mr. Kerry expanded upon his remarks, making clear that for the Obama administration, the old paradigm of a Washington-dominated hemisphere is passe.

“The relationship that we seek and that we have worked hard to foster is not about a United States declaration about how and when it will intervene in the affairs of other American states. It’s about all of our countries viewing one another as equals, sharing responsibilities, cooperating on security issues, and adhering not to doctrine, but to the decisions that we make as partners to advance the values and the interests that we share,” he said…

So tough luck, Honduras. You’re all grown up now. You have to take care of your own problems for once. Share some responsibilities. Provide some security.

  1. How about we do it this way? We tell our friendly neighbors to the south, that if they don’t end the flow of people leaving their country to illegally enter ours, that ALL aid will be cut off. That goes for Mexico too and if they continue to allow people safe passage through their country, we;ll cut them off too. ZIP, ZERO, NADA!!
