New Jobless Claims Up – Unexpectedly

From the ever predictable Associated Press:

New jobless claims rise unexpectedly to 576K

By Christopher S. Rugaber, AP Economics Writer

WASHINGTON – The number of first-time claims for unemployment benefits rose unexpectedly for the second straight week, a sign that jobs remain scarce even as other data show the economy is stabilizing.

The Labor Department said Thursday the number of new jobless claims rose to a seasonally adjusted 576,000 last week, from a revised figure of 561,000. Wall Street economists expected a drop to 550,000, according to a survey by Thomson Reuters.

Economists closely watch initial claims, which are considered a gauge of layoffs and an indication of companies’ willingness to hire new workers.

The figures are volatile, and had been trending down, after remaining above 600,000 for most of this year. The new report indicates that the labor market is still weak. In a healthy economy, initial claims are usually around 325,000 or below…

The recession, which began in December 2007 and is the longest since World War II, has eliminated a net total of 6.7 million jobs

We find ourselves becoming less and less shocked by such unexpected news. Though we are still irked at the Associated Press promulgating their favorite lie that the recession did not begin in December 2007.

We thought words even like ‘recession’ had meaning apart – from momentary political advantage.

But we guess we were wrong and Lenin was right after all.

We can’t wait to how they will redefine ‘recovery.’

you should put a number on this headline so we know how many times we have seen it.

Example “New Jobless Claims Up Unexpectedly” (v11)

They will define it when the Won can take full credit for it. Due solely to his benevolence and omnipotent powers he will have granted the unwashed masses this miracle.

… even if it’s at the turn of this century. It’ll have to be due to the o-blah-blah’s good works, ay.

      You are right, Right!!!

    Simply amazing!!

Not one frickin’ job has been made. But let us not hold him to anything other than the ruination of America!!

I sit here in utter awe and wonder why Barry gets a “By your leave” at every GD corner he turns trying to unravel the economy. And the kicker is that our Fourth Estate are the cheerleaders to the upcoming wreck!!

WE………are watching 1 / 2 million new unemployment each week. Where in the F@*% are the bells and whistles going off? It really seems that no one cares one iota if we win or lose. They cut my unemployment and they are “considering” my case. In the meanwhile, I am spiraling down Barrys shitter …….. America and how he sees it!!

“Christina Romer chairs Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers. While a Berkeley professor, she co-authored a March 2007 study that states, “Tax increases are highly contractionary.” Researchers recently consulted Romer’s academic forecasting model. By 2019, it concluded, Obamacare’s taxes would unplug 5.5 million jobs.”

    Sweet huh?

Obamacare not only cements the Fascists control over our lives, it also destroys half a million jobs a year, thus making the country even more dependent on the government.

But the real sweetner is that 5.5 million jobs lost represents 3% of the economy. So while promising to take care of us, they actually hasten our decent into serfdom.

    It’s a triple play.

    News Headline:

Congressman gets run over by train unexpectedly.

Congressman Ed Finkle (D) State of Confusion, was camping out on the tracks of the rail line from his district to Washington DC when, suddenly and unexpectedly, it ran him and his tent over.

Fellow members of Congress were aghast.

“I know he talked to the linemen who warned him about it, but they are all such liars”, said Nancy Pelosi in a statement this afternoon.

Representative Barney Frank, outraged said, “The republicans TOLD him to camp there on the tracks. It’s their fault. I will not answer any questions about this.”

And, not to be left out, President Obama had this to say, “Uh, the uhhh……train…..was clearly acting in a racist fit about who the president is and it…uh…….has gone……outofitsway……to….uh…..make a statement about that hatred. Clearly, no one was run over here and I do not accept that anyone was.”

The train is being held on charges of hate crimes.
