AP: 2 NFL Players Hit Helmet-To-Helmet!

From an outraged Associated Press:

Cowboys’ Williams hit helmet-to-helmet

Sun Nov 7, 2010

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Cowboys wide receiver Roy Williams was hit helmet-to-helmet by Packers safety Nick Collins midway through the third quarter.

Williams was able to get up and run off the field on his own power and returned to the game later in the drive.

Jon Kitna threw a deep ball to Williams, whose back was turned to Collins when the safety came in and made contact with the back of Williams’ head with his helmet. Collins was flagged for unnecessary roughness.

Williams crumpled to the ground face first near the Packers’ sideline while Aaron Rodgers and other Packers players hurriedly called for the Cowboys trainers.

After Williams’ helmet was taken off, he got up and jogged off the field without assistance. The league is closely monitoring helmet-to-helmet hits, saying they can result in suspension.

Maybe it’s just us. But we never thought we would live to see the day where a "helmet-to-helmet" hit in the NFL would make the news, let alone be featured as a top story on the AP.

Maybe the first mistake was giving everybody helmets and pads in the first place.

    Oh! My! God!!!
How could we have missed this?
    There is violence in football!
Now I see why they work out so much and pick really big people to play the line.
How could I have missed it for all this time?

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

Evidently, all the pink infused into the NFL has had no lasting effect and therefore, we need more activism in the league to stop all this violence.

I will not rest until all football games are peaceful and the opposing sides compromise with one another.

If all the pink color was to promote awareness of
breast cancer, I cannot wait for the color for the
    awareness of colon cancer…

  3. Chase says:

For a bit of levity, I offer a description (paraphrased) of (American) football as heard from a citizen of the more pacifist UK some years back –

American football is a game comprised of and emblematic of two telling characteristics of American culture: short bursts of extreme violence interrupted by too frequent meetings (the huddle.)

Get rid of their face guard – that oughta do it.

I’d compliment the hard hitting piece from AP, but I don’t want to encourage more journalistic violence.

It’s all that icky violence in fooball, you see.

  6. Liberals Demise says:

They should be happy there aren’t football bats.
