Obama Kowtows To Turkey And Muslims

From a joyous Reuters:

Obama backs Palestinian state, conciliatory to Muslims

By Caren Bohan And Paul De Bendern

ANKARA (Reuters) – U.S. President Barack Obama told Turkey’s largely Muslim but secular democracy on Monday the United States was not at war with Islam and that it wanted to reinvigorate efforts toward creating a Palestinian state.

Obama reiterated the U.S. position after the new Israeli foreign minister said last week Israel was not bound by a U.S.-backed deal to start talks on establishing a Palestinian state.

"Let me be clear: the United States strongly supports the goal of two states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security," he said in a speech to Turkey’s parliament.

Chief Palestinian peace negotiator Saeb Erekat welcomed Obama’s words, saying he had made a major commitment to the two-state solution. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said Israel was committed to reach peace and would cooperate with the Obama administration to achieve that goal…

[Obama] is trying to rebuild ties with Muslims after anger at the invasion of Iraq and war in Afghanistan, made more urgent by a resurgent al Qaeda and Taliban insurgency in Afghanistan.

"Let me say this as clearly as I can: the United States is not at war with Islam. In fact, our partnership with the Muslim world is critical in rolling back a fringe ideology that people of all faiths reject," Obama said.

"But I also want to be clear that America’s relationship with the Muslim world cannot and will not be based on opposition to al Qaeda. Far from it. We seek broad engagement based upon mutual interests and mutual respect. We will listen carefully, bridge misunderstanding, and seek common ground."

Turkey is a major transit route for U.S. troops and equipment destined for Iraq as well as Afghanistan. As the United States reduces its troops in Iraq, Incirlik air force base is expected to play a key role and Obama discussed this with Turkish leaders…

"Turkey’s greatness lies in your ability to be at the center of things. This is not where East and West divide, it is where they come together," Obama said.

"It is a member of NATO and it is also a majority Muslim nation, unique in that position and as a consequence has insights into a whole host of regional and strategic challenges we may face," he added.

Turkey was not the venue for Obama’s promised major speech in a Muslim capital, but his two-day visit will still be a way to emphasize his message of goodwill to Muslims.

"The United States has been enriched by Muslim Americans. Many other Americans have Muslims in their family, or have lived in a Muslim-majority country I know, because I am one of them," Obama said in his speech to parliament.

Obama also called Iran a "great civilization" and said he sought engagement with the Islamic Republic. But he added: "Iran’s leaders must choose whether they will try to build a weapon or build a better future for their people." …

Don’t you love how our media masters shamelessly repeat their revisionist lies at every opportunity?

[Obama] is trying to rebuild ties with Muslims after anger at the invasion of Iraq and war in Afghanistan…

Who attacked whom? And how many times and for how many years before we finally began to strike back?

The United States has been enriched by Muslim Americans. Many other Americans have Muslims in their family, or have lived in a Muslim-majority country I know, because I am one of them," Obama said…

Now he tells us.

Obama in Turkey, Begins Flattery Offensive…from the BBC:

Obama reaches out to Muslim world

During his first visit to a mainly Muslim state, President Barack Obama has declared that the US “is not and will never be at war with Islam”.

Addressing the Turkish parliament, Mr Obama called for a greater partnership with the Muslim world and said the US would soon launch outreach programmes.

“America’s relationship with the Muslim world cannot and will not be based on opposition to al-Qaeda,” he said.

Mr Obama also said Washington supported Turkey’s efforts to join the EU.

Earlier, at a news conference with his Turkish counterpart, Abdullah Gul, he urged Turkey to help bridge the gap between the Muslim and Western worlds.

He said his visit was a “statement about the importance of Turkey, not just to the United States, but to the world”. …

Mr Obama devoted much of his speech to urging a greater bond between Americans and Muslims, admitting that “the trust that binds us has been strained”.

“Let me say this as clearly as I can: the United States is not and will never be at war with Islam,” he stated…

They just can’t help throwing another dig at Bush, can they? That was then, this is now. I guess the U.S. is now wildly popular, huh? All because of he who shall not be named. :-\

“Let me say this as clearly as I can: the United States is not at war with Islam”

From my contacts in the moronistration, these were some last minute deletions from the speech:

    – The US has recovered from a brief recession last year
    – We are about to pass the most fiscally responsible budget in US history
    – America is now united behind my (Obamy’s) leadership
    – The world is disarming behind my (Obamy’s) leadership
    – Osama Bin Laden will turn himself in this year, and the books will be closed on 9/11 (if it even happened)
    – The oceans have begun to recede

Well in my family (extended included) the only people I’ve known who have resided in a Muslim country were people who were there due to their military obligations and we don’t have any Muslims in our family, a lot of fallen away Catholics and a few converts to other religions but no Muslims.
Barack, it’s not always about you. Some Americans have grown up with absentee fathers, and or goofy mothers (that would be my husband’s family history) but he didn’t go to the finest prep school on Oahu like you did. This clown cannot truly think that his story is the story of the majority of Americans, can he? He’s the most egotistical occupant of the White House ever. He makes Bill Clinton look like a third stringer.
I guess he forgot who was at the controls of those planes when they flew into their targets. Yes, it’s all our faults Barack. How silly of me not to recognize that fact. sarc off

Catie: “This clown cannot truly think that his story is the story of the majority of Americans, can he?”

Maybe yes (he’s just looney enough), maybe no, but one thing for sure is that he intends to make the American story in the future be the South Chicago story…………because that’s “fair”.

From the caption: “President Barack Obama reads from one of his twelve traveling teleprompters”

I guess “that one” is trying hard t be like Jesus. But his teleprompters are no match for Jesus’ 12 Apostles, not even close.

  5. wardmama4 says:

I guess that quote from his book wasn’t taken out of context – I will come down on the side of muslims – he didn’t wait very long to make that one come true.

He’s destroyed more American credibility, made more social/protocol breeches and shown more hubris and arrogance than all of the previous 43 Presidents combined for the past 232 years did – quite an accomplishment in the first 100 days.

Let’s just hope The One ™ continues his Messiah Tour 2009 for the rest of the year.

Let’s get to the meat of the Muslim issue : where it all began and started: A theology, proposed by a pediphile who had a mental disability, specifically intended to dupe the poor, dumb and “have nots” of society.

Not exactly a great start. Keep the BS of “Muslims’s contributions to mankind” to your Imam behind closed doors. Islam wasn’t around when Persia fourished, nor was it around when Arabs founded algebrae. It wasn’t around during the rise of the 8 wonders of the world, nor was it around to thrive civilization.

It is just the opposite, hence its “followers” are primarily brain washed, uneducated 3rd world country residents who strive for a f&*^%$#* glass of water each day, a hand full of corn meal or a mosquito net.

That is the reality of MOST Muslims and followers of Islam. Similiar to the deranged liberals psyche.

I choose to follow winners and not cow tow to vicious, barbaric losers still living circa 900AD.

    Call me silly…

    • beautyofreason says:

So true. Every time Biden, Obama, or Hillary speak of the “moderate Taliban” or elicit some ridiculously PC statement about Islam and its governments, there is always a so-called mainstream Muslim to say what the rest of us have already determined through observation. First the leader of Turkey said there is no “moderate Islam,” and then the Taliban itself corrected the U.S. administration – twice.

The left is essentially pandering to Islamic cultures that discriminate against women, non-Muslims (especially those who leave Islam), have no separation between religion / state, no freedom of speech, and regimes under the grips of Shariah, or Islamic law (men get endless “prostitutes through temporary marriage in Iran, but charge rape victims with adultery if they can’t provide four male witnesses, etc). The left seems to have a rabid hatred of conservatism that obfuscates their ability to see real threats to our country.

You wouldn’t believe the number of people I’ve heard saying how Iran isn’t that bad (though they execute apostates and “adulterers”) or how Islam is “the light” so it’s acceptable to kill people who reject it, etc. I’ve heard some of the supposedly modern Muslims with access to a computer, good English, etc. attribute 9/11 to “zionist conspiracies” and other nonsense.

Being PC won’t help us stop the terrorism and intolerance that get a free ride under Islam.

I read somewhere that Muslim countries average about 5 patents a year. No need to invent anything. The pedophile guy set it all down on paper a thousand years ago. It can’t be impoved on.

Obama is only trying to appease the aggressors of our world in the vain hope that they’ll leave us alone. I wonder if somehow this man is an indirect descendant of that other notorious appeaser Neville Chamberlain. Where are the Winston Churchill’s of our time? I can only pray that America wakes up from it’s hypnotic stupor votes the man out, first starting with the mid-term elections. The checks and balances of our government are no good if one party controls all three branches. I know in my heart that this is something our founding fathers didn’t want.

    • proreason says:

12G…..”trying to appease the aggressors of our world in the vain hope that they’ll leave us alone”

You are presuming that he has the country’s best interests at heart, but is just mis-guided.

I’m not convinced of that. It might have been true of Carter, but not this guy.

And you don’t have to go all the way toward presuming he is actively sabotaging the country to have a reasonable question about his motives either

I think there is a strong possibility that he is willfully weakening the U.S. because he is convinced that the we are a danger to the world. That’s what many of the leftie loons think, and although he is good at misdirection, he probably belives it as well. I just don’t see any evidence that he thinks our traditions and self-rule are worth preserving. If he thought so, wouldn’t he say it once in a while?

  11. 12 Gauge Rage says:

PR, he has the country’s best interests at heart according to him. But his world is vastly different than mine. I have a good idea of what he’s up to. I’m just amazed that he’s so brazen about it. And even more of so many who refuse to admit that their hero has some serious flaws. Perhaps our best voice will come from someone within his ranks who finally wakes up and sees the handwriting on the wall. After all, George Orwell was a big advocate for Joseph Stalin until he visited the Soviet Union and saw everything for what it really was. From then on he became a very outspoken critic of communism and it’s leaders.

” ‘Many other Americans have Muslims in their family, or have lived in a Muslim-majority country,” he said. “I know, because I am one of them.’

The line was a bold one for Mr. Obama, who has been falsely labeled a Muslim by detractors. The accusations persist on some right-wing Web sites, which may try to interpret the last sentence as proof of those views.”

    YA THINK?!

Obama’s meaning couldn’t be more clear: He has Muslims in his family (relatives on his father’s side) and he has lived in a Muslim-majority country (Indonesia). Anybody who pretends to not understand that has another agenda going — one without much intellectual integrity.
