Shocker: Oregon Muslims Fear Retribution

From a terribly concerned Associated Press:

Worshipper Osama Abdelli leaves flowers by the side of the Salman Al-Farisi Islamic Center in Corvallis, Ore. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010, where an alleged arsonist set a fire in the early morning hours.

Oregon Muslim leaders fear retribution after plot

By Jonathan Cooper And Nigel Duara, Associated Press
November 28, 2010

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Patrols around mosques and other Islamic sites in Portland have been stepped up as Muslim leaders expressed fears of retribution, days after a Somali-American man was accused of trying to blow up a van full of explosives during the city’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

The AP is so aching for such anti-Muslim retribution after one of these countless terrorist attempts, they are practically at the point of offering a reward.

Portland Mayor Sam Adams said Sunday that he beefed up protection around mosques "and other facilities that might be vulnerable to knuckle-headed retribution" after hearing of the bomb plot.

This would be the same Portland Mayor who would not allow the Portland police to work with the FBI’s anti-terror task force, which ended up preventing this latest terrorist attack despite his and the other town fathers’ efforts.

Still, it’s nice to see Mr. Adams’ priorities.

The move followed a fire Sunday at the Islamic center in Corvallis, a college town about 75 miles southwest of Portland, where suspect Mohamed Osman Mohamud occasionally worshipped, prompting an FBI arson investigation and concern about the potential for more retaliation.

A fire that conveniently burned a small portion of the Islamic center’s office – and none of the "worship areas."

Mohamud, 19, was being held on charges of plotting to carry out a terror attack Friday on a crowd of thousands at Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon.

His attorney, Stephen R. Sady, who has represented terrorism suspects held at the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, didn’t return a telephone message left Sunday by The Associated Press

Isn’t it heart-warming that there is a whole cadre of eager lawyers who make a nice living defending these terrorists?

Somali leaders in Oregon — a state that has been largely accepting of Muslims — gathered with Portland city leaders Sunday evening to denounce violence and call for help for at-risk Somali youth.

"We left Somalia because of war, and we would like to live in peace as part of the American community," said Kayse Jama, executive director of a local organization founded after the 9/11 attacks to fight anti-Muslim sentiment.

"We are Portlanders. We are Oregonians. We are Americans, and we would like to be treated that way. We are your co-workers, your neighbors."

It’s weird, but we don’t hear any denunciation of Muslim violence in this statement. Instead, we hear Muslims once again pretending to be victims.

Earlier Sunday, worshippers at the damaged Islamic center expressed concern about retribution.

"I’ve prayed for my family and friends, because obviously if someone was deliberate enough to do this, what’s to stop them from coming to our homes and our schools?" said Mohamed Alyagouri, a 31-year-old father of two who worships at the center. "I’m afraid for my children getting harassed from their teachers, maybe from their friends." …

And when it turns out that this fire was set by a fellow congregant, as is so often the case in these crimes, we will hear nothing more from Mr. Mohamed Alyagouri.

Omar Jamal, first secretary for the Somali mission to the United Nations in New York City, told The Associated Press his office has received "thousands of calls" from Somalis in the United States who are concerned about tactics used by federal agents in the sting operation against Mohamud

Jamal said there is concern in the Somali community that Mohamud was "lured into an illegal act."

"Rest assured that the community is very against anyone who tries to do harm to the citizens of this country," he said. But many Somalis in the United States are wondering whether Mohammud’s rights were violated by federal agents, he said.

We, too are as concerned as Mr. Jamal. And we call upon the Obama administration to send every last one of these Somalis back to their homeland paradise as fast as possible before they suffer anymore at the hands of the FBI.

Perhaps the UN will even help provide the funding for their one way tickets.

Why "did they tell him to go along with this heinous crime?" Jamal said

Of course the FBI did no such thing, as is amply demonstrated by the record. But you can’t expect to ever get the truth from anyone at the United Nations.

The fire at the center was reported at 2:15 a.m., and evidence at the scene led authorities to believe it was set intentionally, said Carla Pusateri, a fire prevention officer for the Corvallis Fire Department.

Note that so far this "fire prevention officer" is the only person who has suggested that this may have been arson.

Authorities don’t know who started the blaze or why, but they believe the center was targeted because Mohamud sometimes worshipped there.

Sure they do. The AP just hasn’t been able to find anyone who would go on record to say this. But that has never stopped them before when there is something they want said.

Arthur Balizan, special agent in charge of the FBI in Oregon, said there’s no conclusive link to the bombing in Portland or specific evidence that it’s a hate crime, other than the timing

So who are the authorities the AP was talking about, again?

"Just as American Muslims repudiate any act that would threaten our nation’s safety and security, we ask our fellow citizens to reject any attacks on Muslims or their religious institutions," said Arsalan Bukhari of the Seattle chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations

By that logic we take it Mr. Bukhari is saying that we "fellow citizens" should not reject such attacks at all.

This is just a way to silence all Americans who want these people profiled, tracked and deported – so that once again America can be the land of the FREE.

Seems to me, since 1979 – the only group of people who have been after Americans and the destruction of America – are radical extremist terrorists who happen to be islamic (the Left has been attempting it inside America since 1900 but we can deal with them as they are too pc to kill (as of now)) – so gee, I wonder why the majority of Americans want these people removed from our society.

One attack here, one vandalizing there – does not compare to the death and destruction that these radical extremist terrorists who happen to islamic have committed to/on Americans.

Don’t like it – go back to your countries and foment more hate there. At least we can live and peace and not be subjected to strip searches while you all go about your merry way complaining about how you are treated in America – be glad that I’m not in power – then you would see how real Americans react to this behavior.

wm4 you hit on an important item without knowing it perhaps. Ever since the crusades, the muslims have been the antagonists. While Europe prospered during the Renaissance, the muslims were relatively quiet. After the industrial revolution and certainly with the increase in the need for oil, the muslims once again have found something to bitch about and that brings me to the heart of the matter.

All events are subjective and at the mercy of the loose interpretation of muslim anger. By stating that muslims have attacked and killed x amount of people, that goes in one ear and out the other of a muslim because all those people either “deserved it” or are otherwise “infidels” and it doesn’t count. But in their self-centered religion, islam is everything and must never be harmed in any way, spoken poorly of, ridiculed, etc. Truly it is a pathetic “religion” that cannot bear criticism and scrutiny. That is primarily why I call it a cult because it is “defended” by people who are supposedly “offended” when someone does something that can be even vaguely imagined as being offensive to islam.

As of now, the media allows them this relativistic argument because it fits their own template and allows for the media the opportunity to show how bad the US is. They’ve gotten in bed with a child molester and they just don’t know it yet. Or if they do, they are ignoring it and enabling it. In either case, the moral relativism is really on display and more and more Americans are aware of it or being made so and the vote is in….we don’t like it.

Yes and it seems to be that the Left & the blacks adhere to the same ‘I AM VICTIM’ screed – no wonder they won’t condemn the radical extremist terrorists who happen to be islamic at all – They are them.

I’m curious about the picture. There is no mention of any injuries in the early morning blaze. This is a first for me. Have you ever seen anyone leave flowers for a burned office?

“[sob] We all are really going to miss the wallpaper in that office… [sniffle] we really loved that wallpaper… and now it’s gone… [sob, sob]” Yeah, so is all potential evidence.

Strange, muslims attempt to kill Christians and the muslims are the ones who have to “fear retribution.” Its like your big brother punching you and when you decide to do something about it, he runs to your parents and tells them you are trying to punch him. What about all the Christians that did nothing other than show up to a Christmas tree lighting with their families. Why should they be made to live in fear? They have done nothing other than peacefully practice their religion (which does not involve killing anybody who doesn’t believe the same things they do).

Its not just the Christians, though. Its all westerners. Those of us who live in a prosperous country, [mostly] free to make our own decisions are all targeted by islam. islam is the problem, show me one prosperous, free, islamic-ruled country, where people are free to make their own decisions on religion, politics, dress, jobs, and where women have the same rights and freedoms as men. No such place exists. Yet the followers of this oppressive cult are dedicated to bringing their third-world ideology to every free nation in the world. They are afforded “victim” status by a compliant, dhimmi press every time a follower of the cult of death kills or attempts to kill a group of people whose greatest crime (according to the attacker) is not believing in allah (piss be upon him). I’d like to see the AP interview one of the intended targets of this bombing and ask them if their children deserved to die for showing up at a Christmas tree lighting.

When will people stop wondering why the coffee table is crushed, the couch shoved into the corner, and the lamps are broken and start noticing the elephant standing in the middle of the living room. The enemy is here and we are all targets. I know I’m preaching to the choir here, thanks for letting me vent.

I do not advocate violence against American citizens no matter what the reason. However, I would caution against this use of the term “retribution”. Retribution will come in some manner at some time, and that isn’t “hate speech”, it is a fact. That retribution will come from someone much more powerful than any crack pot with an axe to grind against some mosque. When it does I will hardly lose any sleep.

  5. NoNeoCommies says:

They have the same right to fear us that we have to fear them.
If they want to stereotype Americans as ignorant; violence prone; and dangerous, then we should be granted the freedom to do the same where they are involved.

  6. David says:

Woohoo my tiny town made it to the great hall of S&L! In the 7 years I have lived here Corvallis I never knew the name of that mosque. It is buried back in a residential neighborhood a couple blocks from OSU campus. It serves the handful of Muslims here going to the university. One thing to keep in mind is this is a college town and the mosque is in the middle of college housing. A few years back there was some hubub because someone shot at the minaret. Again, it must be a hate crime when all the other stupid things college kids do around the town is just kids being kids.
The picture is funny to me because it must be taken from the side loading area of the building where there is about 10 feet of chain link. The back of the building is open to a main street. If the flowers were laid there it would have been more noticeable to the community but I guess the fence makes for a better “divided community” shot.

  7. Mithrandir says:

    Part of the liberal template

Approved racial group does something wrong:

~They are justified, because of current or past oppression.
~The REAL ISSUE is whether these poor minorities will get protection from retribution.
    ~Blame society for its failures.
~Quote family or community members saying good things about the minority.
~Show a smiling, happy picture of the minority, delete the mugshot.
~Bury harsh details at the bottom of the article.
~Make sure the details are deliberately inaccurate.
~Make the details and facts suspect to mistrust.
~Don’t write about the details at all.

POOF! Swifto-Chango, you get an article white-washing the facts, and redirecting blame to someone else, just like the Times Square Bomber.

  8. beautyofreason says:

“We are your co-workers, your neighbors.”

And a man who frequented your mosque just attempted to blow up a crowd of Americans attending a Christmas tree ceremony, presumably because they are non-Muslim.

No, if you support Shariah law as a binding law then you are NOT my neighbor in any sense other than geography.

So if Christians and other Americans can’t stereotype Islam according to the lethal attacks aimed at civilians in the country, BUT Muslims can regard us all as bigots because of a small arson on a campus, ALL while refusing to clean house…?

I’m sorry; the double standard is making my head spin.

All I can do is as a woman and a non-Muslim is to keep as far away from this noxious self-serving religion as possible.

  9. Papa Louie says:

“…obviously if someone was deliberate enough to do this, what’s to stop them from coming to our homes and our schools?” said Mohamed Alyagouri.

If you said the exact same thing after any one of the recent acts of violence committed by Muslims, you would be called Islamophobic.

The left was 100% behind Ben Jealous of the NAACP when he said to the Tea Party, “You must expel the bigots and racists in your ranks or take full responsibility for all of their actions.” They didn’t have any problem with the idea of condemning the entire Tea Party for the isolated actions of a few, even when those actions were unsubstantiated rumors.

But if you says to Muslims, “You must expel the violent jihadists in your ranks or take full responsibility for all of their actions”, the left will immediately jump all over you for the sin of judging an entire group based on the actions of a few extremists. Why are Muslims held to a lower standard than the Tea Party? Have Muslims ever expelled a violent jihadist from their ranks? As far as I know, Anwar al-Awlaki and Osama bin Laden are still Muslims. If they refuse to expel even those mass murderers from Islam, why can they not be held at least partly responsible for their actions?

    • wardmama4 says:

“…obviously if someone was deliberate enough to do this, what’s to stop them from coming to our homes and our schools?” said Mohamed Alyagouri.

Yes and on September 11, 2001 – that is exactly the thought that I had (and I believe most Americans) – as I said above – 2997 dead compared to an act of an office burned (not even the whole building) and before we know, if someone associated with the mosque did it (a popular trick with Leftists and I am sure not out of the realm of islamic liars) – Who should have the real and fact based fear of ‘them’ coming to our homes and schools?

Cry me a river – boo fr*ckin hoo

My belief is that the Iman was smoking a blunt and a seed exploded. Casting fiery debris all over his office. Seeing he’s surrounded by leftist professors who have been known to puff a ‘HARVARD’, this makes more sense.
As for stepped up security……….know your mooselimb, brother!
(seems he knows everything about ya’ll)
