Shocker: Taliban Is Using Human Shields

Afghan official: Taliban using human shields

By Alfred De Montesquiou And Rahim Faiez, Associated Press Writers

MARJAH, Afghanistan – Taliban insurgents are increasingly using civilians as human shields as they fight allied troops trying to take the militants’ southern stronghold of Marjah, an Afghan official said Wednesday as military squads resumed painstaking house-to-house searches.

About 15,000 NATO and Afghan troops are taking part in the offensive around Marjah, which has an estimated 80,000 inhabitants and was the largest town in southern Helmand province under Taliban control. NATO hopes to rush in aid and public services as soon as the town is secured to try to win the loyalty of the population.

With the assault in its fifth day, insurgents are firing at Afghan troops from inside or next to compounds where women and children appear to have been ordered to stand on a roof or in a window, said Gen. Mohiudin Ghori, the brigade commander for Afghan troops in Marjah.

"Especially in the south of Marjah, the enemy is fighting from compounds where soldiers can very clearly see women or children on the roof or in a second-floor or third-floor window," Ghori said. "They are trying to get us to fire on them and kill the civilians."

The Marjah offensive is the biggest joint operation since the 2001 U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan and is a major test of a retooled NATO strategy to focus on protecting civilians, rather than killing insurgents.

Ghori said troops have made choices either not to fire at the insurgents with civilians nearby or they have had to target and advance much more slowly in order to distinguish between militants and civilians as they go.

Even with such caution on both the NATO and Afghan side, civilians have been killed. NATO has confirmed 15 civilian deaths in the operation. Afghan rights groups say at least 19 have been killed…

Four NATO service members have been killed in the Marjah operation. An American and a Briton were killed on Saturday, while two others whose nationalities were not identified were killed Tuesday. One Afghan soldier also died Tuesday, Afghan officials said…

If we are going to make civilians sacrosanct in our rules of engagement, why should we be surprised when the enemy hides behind them?

They aren’t stupid.

So, once again, in the long run the unintended consequences will probably end up making civilians less safe than they were before.

And our troops will also suffer for this decision.

Wow, sure didn’t see that coming, what with all the bells, whistles, flashing lights and all when they announced their “strategy” last year.

We have the Dead End Kids running the show….and it shows.

    Goooooood Mooooorrrrrning Afghanistan!

When avoiding civilian casualties is more important than killing the enemy, we have lost the war. It it better to declare victory and bring the troops home now than to to continue the charade of fighting.

Well these Taliban guys all had rough childhoods, so it’s ok if they grab a little edge here and there.

We call it Affirmative Action Warfare.

To be really fair, we should trade weapons with them.

Some are born to command. When they’re captured, it’s okay for them to squeal, but not for the foot-soldiers of Allah.

Some are born to be martyrd. A more blessed purpose than taking your own life while killing infidels? Taking an M14 slug to the chest otherwise intended for a soldier of Allah.

Innocence? No such thing. Only righteousness. “If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, then Lamech seventy-sevenfold” – The Song of the Sword.

Sometimes I understand why Americans have great apprehension towards fundamental ideologues. What I hate are so-called centrists who lash out at the right for stereotypically belonging to that brand. Our beliefs aren’t the result of sociopathy, in fact consistently throughout time they’ve stood victoriously opposed to such insanity.

I heard on the radio this morning that since we have changed our Rules of Engagement (what a stupid f**king term, rules in warfare) and now our troops are only allowed to shoot if the other guy has a gun.

The Taliban now will shoot at our troops from a building and once we call up enough reinforcements, they throw their guns out the window and just walk out and our guys can’t touch them. They can’t even take them prisoner since they aren’t armed and therefore can’t be the enemy according the bullsh*t Rules of Engagement. The jihadis can kill bunches of our people but if they pull this sh*t, they’re home free.

This makes me sick. We pulled the same sh*t in the Nam and it got a lot of good people dead for no reason. America when run by the lefties is the only country on earth that handcuffs its soldiers with these bullsh*t rules.

I’m with you Chuck. Let’s let the a-hole in the White House declare We Won and bring our guys and gals home and leave them to their third world sh*thole of a country. They’re all a bunch of God danged savages!

I believe it was jan 21, 2009 when I said there is zero chance that we will succeed in Afghanistan with the Moron in charge.

Painful as it might be to those who know we CAN win, pulling out immediately or hunkering back to a fortified enclave will save thousands of hero’s lives.

As for those who say that if we pull out, we will have lost and the islamo-fascists will then take over the universe, don’t forget that we mobilized up and swept the rats out in about 3 months back in 2001 and 2002.

We can do it again when we get an Amerian back in the White House in 2013, or if cut out the national brain aneurism, before then.

Anyway … it’s obvious to EVERYONE on the planet that the civilian ‘authorities’ who have our military by the short hairs are politically, ideologically and morally opposed to swatting flies, let alone killing enemies.

Therefore, even the ‘pirates’ in Somalia know we won’t actually ‘do’ anything but yack yack. They must have laughed themselves hoarse when Obama’s Gang offered to PAY the Taliban not to fight.

I remain firm in my conviction that Afghanistan is being fought not so much about Islamofascism, but in dislodging Islamofascists from controlling a crop that is worth $xx Billions every year and, the Democratic Party and NE Scion-Families who are using our military to do a hostile takeover of that end of the Business. http://www.wanttoknow.info/warisaracket [1] – or do you imagine the most decorated Marine ever was blowing smoke out his kiester when he went to the mats and spoke these things?

Ergo – can’t be killing the native folk needed to work the fields, harvest the crops, process the ooze and package it for shipping through the Afghan drug-warlords on the Democratic Party’s payroll. Locals are needful indentured servants to that Party of Power controlling Washington.

    [1] – Foreword
Excerpt from a speech delivered in 1933 by General Smedley Butler, USMC

War is just a racket. There are only two things we should fight for. One is the defense of our homes and the other is the Bill of Rights. War for any other reason is simply a racket.

It may seem odd for me, a military man to adopt such a comparison. Truthfulness compels me to. I spent thirty-three years and four months in active military service as a member of this country’s most agile military force, the Marine Corps. I served in all commissioned ranks from Second Lieutenant to Major-General. And during that period, I spent most of my time being a high class muscle-man for Big Business, for Wall Street and for the Bankers.

I suspected I was just part of a racket at the time. Now I am sure of it. Like all the members of the military profession, I never had a thought of my own until I left the service. My mental faculties remained in suspended animation while I obeyed the orders of higher-ups. This is typical with everyone in the military service.

I helped make Mexico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefits of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the international banking house of Brown Brothers in 1909-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for American sugar interests in 1916. In China I helped to see to it that Standard Oil went its way unmolested.

During those years, I had, as the boys in the back room would say, a swell racket. Looking back on it, I feel that I could have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.
