SNL Does Obama’s Bidding With Bieber Kiss Skit

From Mediaite:

SNL’s Obama Makes Out with Justin Bieber to Push Healthcare.gov

By Tina Nguyen | March 29, 2014

After Barack Obama went on Zach Galifinakis’s Between Two Ferns to push Healthcare.gov, there wasn’t much else he could do in pop culture without jumping his own personal shark. This week’s cold open on SNL imagined a future in which he did.

The only real shock is that SNL didn’t get Obama and Bieber to do this in real life. We’re sure they only had to ask.

In the final 48 hours before the deadline to sign up for healthcare, Obama’s aides forced him to be photographed in Pharrell’s hat and alongside Kim Kardashian and Harry Styles. And “a cat dressed as Elsa from Frozen.” And BatKid. And the Pope. As a last ditch effort, they even brought back Kate McKinnon’s Justin Bieber to do the most viral thing ever.

And never mind that this ‘anti-Obama’ skit did everything the White House wanted. It reminded the SNL audience (aka the low information crowd) that the Obama-Care deadline was upon us. And it also reminded the low-fos that Obama is still very cool and very connected to important celebrities.

In fact, this and all of the other so-called ‘anti-Obama’ skits on Saturday Night Live are just government propaganda in the disguise of making fun of government propaganda. (Which is also the case with the Daily Show and the rest of the entertainment’s industry’s rare ‘anti-Obama’ comedy.)

And, none of it is an accident. As we are reminded, via this piece from the Weekly Standard:

Valerie Jarrett to Hollywood to Get Obamacare in Movie, TV Scripts

By DANIEL HALPER | March 28, 2014

A top of advisor to President Barack Obama is in Los Angeles to try to get Obamacare written into scripts of TV shows and movies. Valerie Jarrett explained in an appearance on Top That! on PopSugar.com:

"That’s the cool thing," a host said to the presidential advisor. "You’ve been reaching out to people that are, you know, outside of the norm of what the president might work with. Who else are you working with? Like celebrities, personalities, things like that?"

"You name it," said Jarrett. "That’s part of why I’m in L.A. I’m meeting with writers of various TV shows and movies to try to get it into the scripts." When Jarrett says "it into the scripts," she’s referring to getting references to Obamacare, the president’s signature legislation, into the scripts of TV shows and movies.

Josef Goebbels would be proud. In fact, he pioneered this field. (Cf. the UFA film company, etc.)

She continued: "We’re talking to celebrities. We’re talking to athletes, because obviously they get injured a lot and many of them are the same age as the market we’re going after. And what they can say is, ‘Look, you never know when life is going to throw you a curve ball. You’re walking down the street, you’re a little clumsy, you trip, you fall — where do you end up? Emergency room. A couple grand just to walk in the door."

"Right," said the host. "Who can afford that?" asked Jarrett. "Nobody," said a host." …

You see? Nobody can afford to trip without the federal government there to bail you out with taxpayer subsidies. Just tripping on the sidewalk could throw you in the poor house, otherwise.

But weirdly, we can remember when the tradition in the entertainment industry was to ‘challenge authority.’ And to keep ‘the man’ out of our lives.

But now it is cool to do the government’s bidding. Now celebrities and the rest of the entertainment industry are eager to help the government force every citizen to buy a product whether they want to or not.
