Snowmageddon Due To Global Warming

Fittingly, from the ‘On Faith’ blog at the Washington Post:

Snowmageddon a sign of ‘global weirding’

As members of Congress try to shovel out from underneath what is being called "snowmageddon" in Washington DC, they might pause in their labors and contemplate how weird their weather is becoming. "Global warming" is pretty much a misnomer. Our weather isn’t always getting warmer, but it’s getting a lot weirder.

The world’s weather is changing, and changing in dramatic and erratic ways. Hunter Lovins, co-founder of the Colorado-based Rocky Mountain Institute, is credited with creating the term "global weirding" as a much more descriptive term for what’s happening to our weather patterns than the "global warming" or even "climate change."

Thomas Fridedman, in his book Hot, Flat and Crowded, subscribes to the Lovins thesis. Friedman notes, "sweet-sounding ‘global warming’ doesn’t really capture what’s likely to happen. I prefer the term ‘global weirding,’ coined by Hunter Lovins…because the rise in average global temperature is going to lead to all sorts of crazy things — from hotter heat spells and droughts in some places, to colder cold spells and more violent storms, more intense flooding, forest fires and species loss in other places."

Last year in Colorado, we had summer snows in Denver, along with prolonged winter snows in May and June in the mountains. I used to think that "global warming" would mean longer summers, and milder winters. That’s before I knew that climate change meant erratic and violent and unpredictable.

Is this the snow apocalypse, a world-ending snow, as the term "snowmageddon" implies, or is it an in-your-face, indisputable example of "global weirding"?

It’s global weirding, in fact, and that’s climate change in its erratic weather pattern manifestation. Hundreds of churches that belong to Interfaith Power and Light, an interfaith group that educates congregations on climate change and helps them make energy efficient changes, will get Bible-based versions of that message this weekend. Interfaith Power and Light is organizing a "National Preach-In" on global warming this weekend. Valentine’s weekend will become a weekend of awareness of the religious imperative to confront "global weirding."

I hope some of the sermons this weekend are about the sin of refusing to see the effects of "global weirding" when they are right in front of you. Human beings, sinful as we are, can still refuse to see what is right in front of us, even when it’s piled up five feet high and very, very cold. Catholic moral theologians have a wonderful term for this capacity in human nature, this particular way of sinning. They call it "willful ignorance." People who have a fixed idea that climate change is not happening are not likely to connect the dots on "snowmageddon" and the "global weirding" of our weather. They’ll go on voting down climate change legislation and refusing to support the greening of our economy, while the snow piles up higher and higher and higher around their ears.

A lot of the sermons this weekend will probably be taken from Genesis, but I hope some clergy also take a look at Exodus for good texts on "global weirding." Pharaoh had a hard time believing that change needed to come to Egypt, even though Moses warned him and warned him. God sent ten plagues, and only then did Pharaoh get it (Exodus 7-12), and even then he tried to back out at the last minute. I don’t think God sent these particular plagues, however. Sadly enough, we brought it on ourselves, though there’s a way you could say that was the case for Pharaoh too.

I wonder what’s next for the plagues of "global weirding." Disease? No, we’ve already got diseases replicating and spreading more rapidly around the world. Locusts? Well, we don’t have locusts in Colorado, but we do have the pine beetle destroying our lodgepole pines. When the snow comes off the trees, vast swaths of the once-green mountainsides are brown with dead and dying trees. We do have fish are dying in the polluted streams, and in the seas, though the water has not turned to blood.

I’m not looking forward to the hail mixed with fire, however. That would really be some weird weather.

So “Interfaith Power and Light is organizing a "National Preach-In" on global warming this weekend”? Aren’t we preached to about ‘global warming’ every weekend?

This has become as rabid a cult as Islam.

    It’s the ultimate liberal wet-dream.

No matter what happens, it requires bigger government, more taxes, and more control over the rubes.

It’s the road to serfdom tautology.

And this ditz is a professor no less. I vote she take up the serpents and put an all natural end to her carbon footprint.

  3. bill says:

Of course they wouldn’t want you to figure out that the universe is much stronger influencing the earth’s climate than man could ever hope to be.

The real danger here cold is much worse than warm, the coming ice age will prove that point, regardless what any man has to say about it.

  4. Rusty Shackleford says:

Sheesh, in the 60’s it was the coming of the next ice age…and I remember snow drifts that hid the family car.

Now, 40 years later it’s the warming thing and break out your swimsuits and floaty toys because NYC will be under water in a week.

Weather cycles are called that for a reason….they are cyclical Our fellow humans are so narrow-minded and so egocentric that they actually believe that our brief time on Earth has forever doomed our home planet on a level no less ridiculous than a 1950’s B grade sci-fi flick.

In the 1960’s Carl Sagan was one of the very first to publicly postulate that an Earth with too much CO2 would end up like Venus..but it was in the 1960’s that we actually learned about Venus to any substantial degree. Then, with the evidence in, clearly the life forms that had once lived on Venus made too many cars and whammo, the greenhouse effect went out of control and there you have it, a 900 degree world unsuitable for life. Of course, the fact that Venus is 26 million miles closer to the Sun never seemed to factor into the argument.

Many “scientists” bought into this postulation and, as you can see, spent 40 years doing their best to make it fact. But they forget, facts don’t change evidence. Evidence results in facts. But for them when the theory doesn’t match the facts, rather than change the theory as scientific methods dictate, they instead manipulate the facts. *sigh*. If people could look at it in the perspective of a student reading all this in a textbook 100 years in the future, as one would about Galileo and Newton and such, they would see the context for what it is and probably find it hard to believe that scientists would prefer to push an agenda rather than science.

But, expanding the scope a little wider, we find that human history is fraught with human frailty and that those with the most power and biggest egos always refuse to back down. In other words: “The more things change, the more they stay the same”.

So as far as we’ve come technologically, nothing will ever change when it comes to the insufferable human ego.

Washington DC totally closed down approx 5-7 years ago do to snow.

Global warming hoax got started by decades of scientists whose main goal was to be the first to intervine with nature, and ‘control the weather’

Colorado mountaints want the snow for tourism buisness. Hawaii wants their tropical region for tourism.

The minimum of 4 seasons of weather varies as to where in the world you live. And ‘the daily record keeping’ is being exploited to the max.

I think Steve brought out an excellent point in the article before this that
Cold Weather Killing People. It always has, but people forgot, because they have focused on hot weather killing.

It’s cold weather that causes earthquakes. The moisture freezes, expands and breaks the earth. It breaks houses we need for shelter. Cracks appear in wet cold days, and tighten during summer.

The cold ruins the highways that Obama wants fixed. Just one day of ice can ruin a ‘new or old’ paved road or highway.

Our fore-fathers found America to be good varsitile region to settle. Settling spread. Americans actually risked their lives and died to find fertile soil for growing. And if not for the cold season, could grow 24/7 but even that’s not reality because the soil has to replenish, fertilizer salved that, but in order to feed ranging animals, the soil has to rest for them to eat it.
And people that want to live in Alaska where conditions are cold, and dark during days, in order to suceed & prosper.

I have alot of different rocks, and when my son had to a report, every type, fossil, everything I had. One rock which scientists can say took a million years to form, cracked in one day from ice. Evolution of my rock
occured in 1 day from expansion from 1 day freezing temperatures with moisture.
Alot of problems in the last years are from banning and rationing water. If there is no watering crops, then there is no water to go up and form rain. This causes draughts, a vicious circle.

Scientists, you can not fool mother nature. This year for China to put silver seeds in the cloud which resulted in snow is dumb and stupid.
They now have a chemical, and those few days of snow probably did more damage to structure, just because some scientist is playing with chemicals & elements.

Glenn Beck has an Amber Alert out on Al Gore.

GetBackJack, it’s in the bible that God always heals the land. I didn’t realise so much in the old testiment talked about our present weather, along with new testiment and revalations. Weather will get worse, storms, draughts, wars, but in the end God says he will heal the world. It just it’s going to be a time of great tribulation. We’ve just really had a spoiled easy time in history, and forget our fore-fathers & pioneers struggles.

  6. GetBackJack says:

    Heh Heh

    Effing secular nutjobs

These half-arsed Biblical references are hilarious in light of the fact that the Plagues visited upon Egypt when Pharaoh would not let God’s people go were explicitly and specifically targeted at Egypt’s gods. So, when they mention frogs and locusts they’re calling to mind God’s response to false gods.

Which is what Warmongering is …. a false god.

This is Phil. He is NOT happy!

Algore is on his s*** list…BIG TIME!

Phil’s expression says it all! He looks as if he is saying .. “Global Warming my A**!!!! SOMEBODY is going to DIE!!!!”

(You might have to find a way to enlarge this photo…but just the look on his face is priceless. Getting up close to see his eyes is the payoff)

  8. Chuckk says:

Yesterday there was an article in Time Magazine linking the blizzards to global warming. How predictable.

  9. canary says:

Heroic snow-dog Baily responds to amber alert on Al Gore. After one minute risks his life digging under-snow tunnels at bullet speed (no fuel used)

Heroic snow-dog heroically struggles to grab sled from children ending in dog single-handled steering sled to search deeper in the woods for Al Gore. (no fuel used)

  10. joeblough says:

I will repeat. This is a religious phenomenon.

It has nothing to do with understanding the weather, or the climate (which is really just a lot of weather) and everything to do with our new weird cult of the malevolent universe.

I’m not kidding when I say that we are just a few steps from hearing plain open demands for human sacrifice when the weather is unpleasant.

  11. Chuckk says:

The global warming cultists make the truthers and birthers seem sane and rational.

  12. Mithrandir says:

I am just waiting for al gore to start human sacrifice until the gods are appeased and the weather changes to something we like.

He is the high priest, he has many brainwashed followers, the scary unpredictable weather is causing societal anxiety, –why not?

I am sure after enough blood has been spilled, the weather will eventually go back to a temperature we can deal with. and gore will be the priest that made it all happen.
