Solyndra Execs Refuse To Testify To Congress

From a strangely un-outraged Reuters:

Solyndra execs will decline to testify at hearing

Tue Sep 20, 2011

Sept 20 (Reuters) – Solyndra LLC’s chief executive and chief financial officer will invoke their Fifth Amendment rights and decline to answer any questions put to them at a Congressional hearing on Friday, according to letters from their attorneys obtained by Reuters.

This is the thanks the House Republicans get for giving these executives extra time to get their stories straight. (They were originally scheduled to appear before the House committee on Monday.)

But, just as a thought experiment, try to imagine the executives of a Republican concern that had squandered a half billion dollars in taxpayer dollars refusing to testify before Congress. We would hear a steady drumbeat of outrage from the news media and the rest of the Democrat Party about ‘the public’s right to know.’

In the letters sent to the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, attorneys for Solyndra CEO Brian Harrison and CFO W. G. Stover said they advised their clients not to provide testimony during the hearings

Harrison is represented by Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe and Stover is represented by Keker & Van Nest.

Solyndra’s offices were raided by the FBI two days after the company filed for bankruptcy, although the FBI did not say what prompted the raid.

We suspect the raid was prompted by files that needed to be vacuumed. And Sandy Berger was busy. Still, you have to appreciate the irony of a solar power company not being able to withstand the light of day.

Now here is a real shock, from the Daily Caller:

Law firms representing Solyndra executives are major Democratic donors

By Matthew Boyle

The law firms representing two prominent Solyndra executives are major Democratic Party donors, The Daily Caller has learned…

The law firms representing the executives are Orrick, Harrington and Sutcliffe, and Keker and Van Nest. Both are major contributors to Democrats and both have handsomely helped President Barack Obama’s political efforts, according to information retrieved from Center for Responsive Politics databanks.

Employees at Orrick, Harrington and Sutcliffe, which is representing Harrison, have donated more than $1.3 million to federal campaigns, political parties and Political Action Committees since 1990. More than 95 percent of those donations went to Democrats, including $184,000 to Obama.

Steven Newmark, a litigation managing associate for the firm, has bundled between $50,000 and $100,000 for Obama’s ongoing bid for re-election.

Keker and Van Nest employees, on the other hand, have donated $527,301 in national-level political donations since 1990, 99 percent of which have gone to Democrats. Keker and Van Nest is representing Stover.

Over the last three election cycles, Keker and Van Nest employees have donated more than $315,000 to Democrats and, since 2007, they’ve given $64,900 specifically to Obama.

In 2008, Keker and Van Nest attorney Jon B. Streeter bundled between $50,000 and $100,00 for Obama. Since 2009, Streeter has given $46,000 personally to the Democratic National Committee and, in 2010, personally donated more than $30,000 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Astonishing, is it not?

    Imagine the Outrage:

    1. Bush.
    2. Halliburton.
    3. 1/2 Billion gone.
    4. Failure to testify.

    Where’s my pitchfork?

I blame Obama first and foremost. No one….and I do mean no one…..prior to him would have dared show such contempt for the American people or Congress. Even Clinton testified before Congress. He lied to them, but he did appear and testify. This dungheap persists in poking his thumb in our collective eye at every opportunity.

Impeachment is too good for him, but the Republicans should begin with the threats just as the Dems did with Bush, with one exception. They should follow through with the act. If the entire Obama team escapes jail time, that will be a bigger travesty than the crime itself.

  3. Georgfelis says:

Think about it. There is NO reason for the execs to testify in front of Congress. There will be Zero benefit to them at all, and an immense downside. Every single thing they say in front of Congress can and will be used against them in any criminal case that might come up, and in every single civil case that they are going to get sucked into (which there will be many).

Taking the fifth just means the exec’s are not TOTAL idiots. Corrupt, probably, idiots, no.

  4. Liberals Demise says:

    Jail the effing lawyers too!
All of ’em……..every stinking, lowlife lawyer.
Even the lying Constitutional one. Who at this moment is screwing something else up.

No Steve, sadly it’s not astonishing at all in fact it’s what a lot of us have come to expect from the criminal cabal that runs the country and the Obamazombies will look at you with a blank stare and wonder what your problem is. Now if it were Bush and Halliburton the left would be in a frothing at the mouth screaming rage with their media masters and lib pols urging them on to delirium and anarchy

I ran Solyndra through an anagram program and the first, at the top of the list, was “Land Rosy”.
