State Department’s Warning To Tourists

From a bemused Associated Press:

Text of US warning about Europe threats

By The Associated Press Sun Oct 3, 2010

State Department notice issued Sunday about the potential for terrorists attacks in Europe. The alert expires Jan. 11:

The State Department alerts U.S. citizens to the potential for terrorist attacks in Europe. Current information suggests that al-Qaida and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks. European governments have taken action to guard against a terrorist attack and some have spoken publicly about the heightened threat conditions.

Could this be any more vague?

Terrorists may elect to use a variety of means and weapons and target both official and private interests. U.S. citizens are reminded of the potential for terrorists to attack public transportation systems and other tourist infrastructure. Terrorists have targeted and attacked subway and rail systems, as well as aviation and maritime services.

This should do wonders for tourism in Europe. Which, of course, is just what the terrorists want.

U.S. citizens should take every precaution to be aware of their surroundings and to adopt appropriate safety measures to protect themselves when traveling.

This sure sounds like they are encouraging ‘profiling.’ Which in Europe could get you jail time.

We continue to work closely with our European allies on the threat from international terrorism, including al-Qaida. Information is routinely shared between the U.S. and our key partners in order to disrupt terrorist plotting, identify and take action against potential operatives, and strengthen our defenses against potential threats.

Besides, our leader is busy making us loved throughout the Muslim world. (Not that Muslims have anything to do with terrorism.)

Obama & Europe did not want to give warning, aside hurting tourism, they want the terrorists to follow get as far into committing attacks, before thwarting them, so it’s easier to prosecute the difficult to prosecute terrorists. The leaks to the media finally pressured them into a warning so they can they say we warned you.

Nothing I appreciate more than advice from my government to “adopt appropriate safety measures to protect ” myself while traveling.

I certainly don’t want the government to waste any resources defending me and fellow citizens from terrorists.

Particularly when those resources are so much better spent redistributing my hard-earned money so Obamy’s lazy-ass supporters can have the stuff I can no longer afford for my family.

And, of course, harrassing terrorists is the last thing I want to happen, particularly when it is practically impossible to spot one, what with there being so many races and religions in the world. Picking a terrorist out of that nearly infinite variety of humanity is just about an impossible task. Just when you start to hone in on English grannies, surprise! 2nd graders from Switzerland turn out to be the new culprits du jour.

Don’t make the mistake of hanging out with the peaceful Mooselimbs in Europe.
Terrorist have no qualms whacking their own even if their precious Koran says not to harm other Mooselimbs. If you do please contact the U.S. Embassy and let them know where to send your body parts for burial.
