Stimulus Wasn’t To Work Right Away

From an unquestioning Reuters:

Obama says stimulus plan to kick in later this year

By Tom Doggett

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama said on Saturday more time was needed for his $787 billion (485 billion pound) stimulus package to work, predicting the spending would have a bigger impact on the economy later this year.

In an advanced text of his weekly radio speech, Obama said the stimulus plan approved by Congress and signed into law in mid-February "was not designed to work in four months – it was designed to work over two years."

"We must let (the stimulus plan) work the way it’s supposed to, with the understanding that in any recession, unemployment tends to recover more slowly than other measures of economic activity," Obama said.

He said the benefits of the plan would "accelerate greatly throughout the summer and the fall."

Obama said it takes time for the plan’s money "to get out the door" to pay for roads, bridges and other infrastructure projects that will create jobs "because we are committed to spending it in a way that is effective and transparent."

Funny, this isn’t what we were told when the ‘stimulus’ plan was rammed through Congress.

Back then it was so important that it get passed right away that our elected representatives didn’t even have time to read it.

Obama said… “we are committed to spending it in a way that is effective and transparent…”

And yet we have spending that is neither.

In fact, the stimulus bill itself broke at least seven Obama promises about transparency.

But what are words to Mr. Obama?

After all, this is the rosy scenario we were told back in January we would get with the passage of Mr. Obama’s ‘Recovery Plan’:

Even by his administration’s own forecasts Mr. Obama’s ‘stimulus’ has made things far worse than what would have had without it.

This must be the ‘effectiveness.’

And ‘work’ will be redefined to whatever we say it is…

  2. Enthalpy says:

I think it would be helpful for him to can the word “transparent” as well. Flimflam artists are never transparent.

  3. Gila Monster says:

Looks like the old “bait and switch” is an integral part of the Messiah’s administration deceitful repertoire. The tactics used by camel traders, slavers, travelers and used car salesman over the course of time, never seem to change.

  4. proreason says:

The American publics eye was on the walnut shell labeled “employment”.

But the Conman in Chief had actually directed our eye to the shell labeled “effective and transparent”.

Unless he really meant one of the other shells.

    We’ll learn about that later.

I remember so clearly the arguments I had with my liberal colleagues prior to the stimulus vote. It came right after the inaugural speech and almost all the Left’s focus was on what meanies the Republicans were being. Remember all those columns by Frank Rich and his ilk at the NY Times? The refrain was, “we don’t have time, we don’t have time, it has to happen now.” And then all the major news networks were focused on stories about how the Republicans were out of touch, going extinct, and utterly clueless because they wouldn’t sign the stimulus bill… and finally Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins jumped on board, and Obama “personally” called them to thank them for their “patriotism” in this time of crisis….

I do not believe this new revised history of what happened 7 months ago is going to work for O this time. There’s too much of a paper trail, he can’t wiggle out of it. That’s why according to Rasmussen, his approval numbers are now below the percentage of voters who actually elected him in 2008. People remember and can’t be tricked.

The 800 lb monkey on Obama’s back is his insistence on expiring the Bush tax cuts next year. It’s gonna be like bamboo shoots under nails on a chaulk board – excrutiating & nasty.

It wasn’t meant to work right away?

Oh, Ok…So that must be why it was so danged important to get it all through before reading it. Before we could even catch our breath between programs.

Of course…makes perfect sense….to the libs…you know them..the ones who do everything they are told by the ONE.

    What a complete lier!

You know the thing that insults me the most is that he actually thinks ALL people are so enthralled with him that we ALL will believe anything he says.

I hope his house of cards fall hard and quick. I see even the dem pundits are beginning to question his tactics.

As the time gets closer to the 2010 elections watch the dem politicians distance themselves from him. He’s a loser and as his favorite hate speech preacher says..His “chickens will be coming home to roost”

Anyone who’s been paying attention knows that every word out of Obama’s mouth is a lie. Right after the inauguration, I became very depressed, mostly because the press was so in the tank for Obama, and no one was criticizing him openly. It looked like we were headed for a complete repression of free speech. I am encouraged more now because I am seeing open dissent all over the place. Now we see T.E.A. Party demonstrations all over the country, and even the MSM is beginning to wake up. Hopefully we can turn this around.

“Right after the inauguration, I became very depressed,”

You weren’t the only one. You were in good company.

It IS getting better each day as more and more of his programs are beginning to fail and/or show large cracks in them because they don’t work.

And Europe’s heads of state see right through him and I think he knows it.
He seems a tad less arrogant lately…Have you noticed?

No one respects someone who sells their own country out by continually apologizing.

And they are also are aware of the fact that where America goes economically so goes the world. And no one wants to follow” the one” down that drain.

I found something on…ready…The Huffington Post…that I found amazing! I think you will enjoy reading it.

Go to the “By Our Correspondents” section. Great read! It will do your heart good. :-D

    • dulcimergrl says:

Jobeth, do you have a link to the article you were talking about on Huffington? I don’t see a “By Our Correspondents” section anywhere on the page. And I can’t stand to look at it anymore…

      Thanks Steve. Sorry Dulcimer Girl.

I don’t think too well when tired and I didn’t call the “Selected News For Week Jul 11 – Jul 17 | Sweetness & Light” bu it proper name. I should have include that link on this thread as well.

Gee, all that editing for one little Obama sleaze commercial. Inspite of the teleprompter, he must not have mastered the uh uh and duh duh’s.

As far as the summit deciding to give billions to Africa to grow food, they will not be held to the measures of the many bills Obama is trying to pass, to destroy agriculture and farming in rural areas. Other countries have been trying to teach Africa how to irrigate and clean their water for decades, and now more wasted money, while he screws America. I can see the children slaves on the WH plantation spending days in the field hand pouring bottled water on the crops. Probably have to pick the bugs off the crops one bug at a time.

If this isn’t suppose to work right away………..what in the HELL was the hurry?

  9. MinnesotaRush says:

This guy and his gang (especially his speech writers) are so full of sheet it’s absolutely stunning!

He spends just under 8 minutes spinning Blundering Biden’s comment, “We all misread the economy.” And the truth is, they did!

This gas bag and his crew simply haven’t got a clue and live in this world that’s created in their utopian minds and behave as such.

The FACTS refute just about everything this dunce said in “Your Weekly Address” (yes, commandant!); but yet this sycophant dribbles this crap out on a routine basis.

The only folks that can buy into this crap have to be vastly misinformed and unable to think for themselves – read the tea leaves, and/or, of as little substance to themselves as he!

The ‘gene pool’ desperately needs a cleaning!

  10. Trialdog says:

“Accelerate greatly throughout the summer and fall” with projects like “roads, bridges, and infastructure” to create jobs. Ah yes, all those road and bridge projects in the “fall.” Yeah, that’s when they do those projects. Yeah. That’s the ticket. Maybe we’ll see lots of those road and bridge projects carryover to the winter too. Sure.

    • bronzeprofessor says:

LOL, yes trialdog, exactly. Apparently the stimulus designers forgot about something called “snow” which makes construction projects difficult in much of the nation between November and March. And since it appears the climate is cooling…. Nah, the joke’s too easy. I won’t say it.

  11. jobeth says:

Is it just me or does “The One” look a bit tired lately? Could be him worrying how to get out of the big mess he’s made of his “Hope and Change”!
None of this had a hope in H*** in working. Any idiot should have known that.

As he so aptly put it one time this job is definitely “above my pay grade”. LOL
