Read Stimulus Writer Pelosi’s Real Agenda

Lest we forget, Nancy Pelosi was a highly valued member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus until she resigned to become the Speaker Of The House.

Other powerful Democrats are still current and active members, such as Barney Frank, Charlie Rangel and Henry Waxman.

Progressive Caucus Offers “Progressive Promise” as Alternative to President Bush’s “Ownership Society”

(Washington, DC) – The Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) unveiled their core principles and priorities at a reception this evening on Capitol Hill. Billed as an alternative to the Bush Administration’s "Ownership Society," the CPC’s "Progressive Promise" outlines an action agenda under the broad principles of "fighting for economic justice and security in the US and global economies," "protecting and preserving civil rights and civil liberties," and "promoting global peace and security."

"’The Progressive Promise’ represents a blueprint for a Progressive governing majority and a vision for what a Progressive America can and will accomplish," said CPC Co-Chair, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-Oakland). "It is a moral document that has its priorities straight: it puts the basic needs of people above corporate greed, it safeguards and promotes our best democratic principles, and it offers a vision of US leadership in the world."

“We are in the midst of a Progressive awakening in this country and I have never been more confident and optimistic about the future of Progressive Politics,” said CPC Co-Chair, Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey (D-Petaluma). “Rep. Barbara Lee and I look forward to working with the Democratic Caucus in leading a forceful, impassioned and organized opposition to the Bush Administration’s agenda.”

The 59 members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus were honored at a reception co-hosted by an array of national progressive organizations, including the Institute for Policy Studies, The Nation Magazine, Moveon.org, National Priorities Project, Jobs with Justice Campaign, Peace Action, Americans for Democratic Action, and Progressive Democrats of America. Also co-sponsoring the event were the NAACP, ACLU, Progressive Majority, League of United Latin American Citizens, Rainbow/Push Coalition, National Council of La Raza, Hip Hop Caucus, Human Rights Campaign, Association of Farmworker Opportunity Programs, and the Hip Hop Political Convention.

“Americans know that Bush’s ‘Ownership Society’ is just another way of dismantling the social safety net,” said Woolsey. “The Progressive Promise’ sets out a vision that is plain and simple: the needs of Americans come before the desires of the powerful and wealthy.

"The Progressive movement in this country is growing and the Congressional Progressive Caucus is growing with it," said Lee. "Progressives have forged new and powerful ways to be join and influence the debate here in Washington, and the CPC will continue to engage this critical movement and to give voice to their concerns."

Behold the “Progressive Promise” (via a spinoff site, the Progressive Democrats Of America):

by the Congressional Progressive Caucus of the United States Congress

The Congressional Progressive Caucus offers the Progressive Promise for all. We believe in government of the people, by the people, and for the people. Our fairness plan is rooted in our core principles. It also embodies national priorities that are consistent with the values, needs, and hopes of all our people, not just the powerful and the privileged. We pledge our unwavering commitment to these legislative priorities and we will not rest until they become law.

1. Fighting for Economic Justice and Security in the U.S. and Global Economies

» To uphold the right to universal access to affordable, high quality healthcare for all.
» To preserve guaranteed Social Security benefits for all Americans, protect private pensions, and require corporate accountability.
» To invest in America and create new jobs in the U.S. by building more affordable housing, re-building America’s schools and physical infrastructure, cleaning up our environment, and improving homeland security.
» To export more American products and not more American jobs and demand fair trade.
» To reaffirm freedom of association and enforce the right to organize.
» To ensure working families can live above the poverty line and with dignity by raising and indexing the minimum wage.

2. Protecting and Preserving Civil Rights and Civil Liberties

» To sunset expiring provisions of the Patriot Act and bring remaining provisions into line with the U. S. Constitution.
» To protect the personal privacy of all Americans from unbridled police powers and unchecked government intrusion.
» To extend the Voting Rights Act and reform our electoral processes.
» To fight corporate consolidation of the media and ensure opportunity for all voices to be heard.
» To ensure enforcement of all legal rights in the workplace.
» To eliminate all forms of discrimination based upon color, race, religion, gender, creed, disability, or sexual orientation.

3. Promoting Global Peace and Security

» To honor and help our overburdened international public servants – both military and civilian.
» To bring U. S. troops home from Iraq as soon as possible.
» To re-build U.S. alliances around the world, restore international respect for American power and influence, and reaffirm our nation’s constructive engagement in the United Nations and other multilateral organizations.
» To enhance international cooperation to reduce the threats posed by nuclear proliferation and weapons of mass destruction.
» To increase efforts to combat hunger and the scourge of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and other infectious diseases.
» To encourage debt relief for poor countries and support efforts to reach the UN’s Millennium Goals for Developing Countries.

Oddly enough, all evidence of this “promise” has been scrubbed from the CPC’s official government website.

But if you are looking for evidence of fulfillment, just look around.

Are we not seeing all of these “promises” being enacted in the name of the “stimulus” bill and other recently rammed through legislation?

I seem to recall another figure in history mentioning something about “awakening in this country”. I think it went something like .. “I fear we’ve awoken a sleeping giant!”.

To borrow from a true American hero (another quote) .. “Let’s roll!”. Let’s roll fellow giants .. let’s roll! Let’s roll these phonies and their sick ideas out!!!

  3. Howard Roark says:

    Let’s roll, indeed.

Rick Santelli is proposing a Tea Party in July.

This authoritarian takeover of our country is all described in a more clinical, researched paper for those who may still be in doubt about what is happening to our country. It is covered by discover the networks under the name Cloward-Piven Strategy. I try to keep up with it here and there, as well: http://girdingmyloins.blogspot.com/2009/02/cloward-piven-strategy-castrating-us.html

World Peace? We have tried to help other countries who suffered inhumane treatment at the hands of tyrants. We can not feed the world, care for the sick of the world by ourselves.
We did nothing prior to conception and birth to be born in this country. It was by the grace of God, and our forefathers. While it would be God’s will that as individuals we help other countries in humanitarion causes, it should not be our government leaders to focus on other countries. The government should be carrying out the vision of our forefathers who spilt their blood for this country. There has always been aid to other countries by individuals and organizations from this country. And this is good from the people who were blessed to be born in this nation under God. We have allowed many people into this country who have sought a better life. But, now it seems that both Republicans and Democrats are giving more civil liberties, more constitutional rights, free medical care, changing our schools and busineses to accomadate other countries and languages. World Peace will come God decides it’s time. What’s done in Iraq is done. And we should finish our committement. I wish to God we could save every country in this world, but we can’t. We born in this country are blessed, and need to set an example. If you read Abraham Lincolns speech, it’s not about other countries. We should strive our best to make this country the greatest, and it’s up to people in other countries to do the same. No one in the government speaks of controlling our borders. We can track one case of mad cow disease to a cow in another country, but we cannot track terrorists. The democrats are more interested in other country’s civil and constitutional rights, while they take American born citizens rights. The new administration says nothing about gun control in other countries, but they want to take our guns away. They want to take our freedom of speech away. They have allready taken our bibles away. Trade and discussions of peace with other countries can continue, but we can not save and feed the world, or bring them democracy. You can lead a horse to water, but you can not make them drink. We owe it the blood our forefathers shed, fighting the British, and now we must fight terrorism and drug lords.
This garbage being said by the Obama regine is a smoke screen, while they meet in secret with other plans laughing all the way to the top of power and control. Don’t be fooled, be alert, and be active. We owe our forefathers who gave us this country to keep it one nation under God. We can ask for peace all we want, but there will be alway other countries that do not want peace.

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth, upon this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that “all men are created equal.”

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived, and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle field of that war. We come to dedicate a portion of it, as a final resting place for those who died here, that the nation might live. This we may, in all propriety do. But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicated – we can not consecrate – we can not hallow, this ground – The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have hallowed it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here; while it can never forget what they did here.

It is rather for us, the living, we here be dedicated to the great task remaining before us – that, from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they here, gave the last full measure of devotion – that we here highly resolve these dead shall not have died in vain; that the nation, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

This focus on our nation. And that our nation shall not perish from the earth. We need to protect our country at all costs. We need to make it loud and clear.

The bible talks about how bad things will get, and alot of the earth will be destroyed, before peace is on earth. We need to become more self-sufficent . Our children don’t need the 70% of toys, Obama claims comes from China. Our taxes should not be used to pay for other countries abortions and birth control.
We need to stay friends with countries that are our friends. With the Democrats running this country in the manner they are, we will have to worry about countries attacking us more than ever. IT AMAZES me they talk about securing this country when Obama wants to do away with satelites we use to detect if another country is going to bomb us. If we are bombed, then Obama’s regine, will have us so dependent on them, and not ourselves, and our neighbors, we won’t be what our forefather’s dreams were. I don’t care about Obama’s African father’s dreams, nor his Indonesia father’s dreams. I care about our America father’s dreams. The 3 “G”s that set us free. God, guns, and guts. It will come down to this if we continue to cozy up to these barbaric countries.
