Now Global Warming Is Not So Important

From an outraged Associated Press:

Efforts on global warming chilled by economic woes

By DINA CAPPIELLO, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON – The economic free fall gripping the nation may bring down one of the main environmental objectives: capping the greenhouse gases that are blamed for global warming.

Democratic leaders in the House and the Senate, and both presidential candidates, continue to rank tackling global warming as a chief goal next year. But the focus on stabilizing the economy probably will make it more difficult to pass a law to reduce carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. At the very least, it will push back when the reductions would have to start.

As one Republican senator put it, the green bubble has burst

Just months ago, chances for legislation passing in the next Congress and becoming law looked promising. The presidential candidates support mandatory cuts and a Democratic majority is ready to act on the problem after years of the Bush administration’s resisting federal controls…

Democrats, however, see a cap-and-trade bill — and the government revenues it would generate from selling permits — as an engine for economic growth. Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama supports auctioning off all permits, using the money to help fund alternative energy.

“If you see this as a job creation opportunity for the U.S. to develop the products that are then sold around the world, then you should be optimistic about what the impact of passage would mean for the American economy,” said Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass

Oklahoma Sen. James Inhofe, the senior Republican on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, in a blog entry this month criticized 152 House members for releasing a set of principles to tackle global warming in the midst of the economic turmoil.

“The current economic crisis only reinforces the public’s wariness about any climate bill that attempts to increase the costs of energy and jeopardizes jobs,” Inhofe said.

Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, took the argument a step further when he said the Boucher-Dingell bill could lead the country “off the economic cliff.” …

Earlier this past week, Rajendra Pachauri, head of the U.N. climate panel, said discussions about global warming solutions were “on the back burner.” Pachauri shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with former Vice President Al Gore for their work on climate change.

“I’m absolutely sure that climate change will be the last thing people will think about at this point in time,” he said. “Sooner or later, they will come back to it.”

The upside is that in hard economic times, and with high energy prices, the amount of pollution in the air tends to decline.

That will slow global warming somewhat, but there are already enough heat-trapping gases in the atmosphere to cause the temperature to rise.

“I really wish that the science of global warming would look at the newspaper, and say we have an economic crisis so the Earth will stop warming,” said Dave Hamilton, director of the Sierra Club’s global warming and energy program. “But that is not going to happen.”

We don’t know what they are complaining about. Even that profound economic thinker, Bill Clinton said that we would have to slow down our economy to tame “global warming.”

And, after all, what they really seek is the death of capitalism.

And despite this article’s best efforts to keep the scare on us:

The upside is that in hard economic times, and with high energy prices, the amount of pollution in the air tends to decline.

That will slow global warming somewhat, but there are already enough heat-trapping gases in the atmosphere to cause the temperature to rise.

When we have another cool year — as we have been having for some time now — it will be attributed to the worldwide recession.

You heard it here first.

Anyway, just think where we would all be if even some of these more draconian “global warming” proposals had been already signed into law.

Re: your very last statement. Unfortunately, there was a global warning law hidden in the just passed in the bail-out madness bill that addresses CO2 & USA companies. So sad…

As we noted at the time:

But it was mostly tax breaks for Gore’s pals. Not really the draconian stuff they want to enforces.

The worst part about the whole “global warming” thing is that it appears to be starving other areas of science from sources of funding.

Damn, they can’t get it right – ragged on the economy to give Obama the points needed to allow the msm to confirm that his election is a done deal – and look what happened – it caused a global economic crisis which took their number one money making scheme out of the Congressional in-box.

I’ve got bigger news for them (and you all should take heed) – the Farmer’s Almanac that this winter (US) is going to be one of the coldest, snowiest (OK, I admit it is my area, the Great Plains and upper Northeast that are the worst to be hit) – in years.

So much for globall warning. I am so sick of it – You do remember The Population Bomb (1968) predicted that between 1970 and 1980 hundreds of millions would die – and a new famine would virtually wipe out India and by 1990 the earth (bless her soul) would not be able to sustain the human population. . . .Yeah how is that one going?!?
And of course Ms Carson’s 1962 gem Silent Spring which led to the DDT ban has lead to a massive resurgence of malaria (90% of the World’s deaths) in Africa.

There is a lot of ground between utter, unabashed callous destruction and outright bans – it is time that the governments of the World land somewhere dead in the middle before all the do-gooder meddlers who only seem to benefit financially from all their screeding bring the end to the World that they claim everyone else is doing (for money).

As I’ve noted before – there is no Global Warming. Neither organic nor man-made. Temperature averages are actually falling (and have been for years). Scientifically (like that’s important?!?!) there is no statistically valid correlation between alleged greenhouse gases and the increases in temperatures that occurred from the 70’s through about the turn of the century…

p.s. please don’t turn me in to the Algore troof squad – I don’t wanna be re-edjamicated!

  6. wytammic says:

I can’t help but wonder if Algore snuck into Wyoming this past weekend. We received about 3 feet of snow, and you know how snow and cold temperatures love to follow that blowhard around.

  7. Semper-Par-FI says:

Glo-BULL warming is just a scam to control energy markets.
