Supreme Leader: Israel Will Be Annihilated

From Iran’s Fars News Agency:

Supreme Leader: Region to Witness Annihilation of Zionist Regime

January 27, 2010

TEHRAN (FNA)- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said that the region would soon witness annihilation of the Zionist regime, stressing that Muslim countries can make such a happening even more imminent.

"Certainly, the regional countries will witness the annihilation of the Zionist regime one day and its proximity in terms of time depends on the function of the Islamic countries and Muslim nations," Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz on Wednesday.

He further stressed that Mauritanian government’s severance of ties with Israel last year served a good model for certain Arab governments.

"The Zionist regime is a big danger to the Muslim world, which hatches plots every day to expand its infiltration and dominance in the region," Ayatollah Khamenei warned.

He pointed to the crimes committed by the Israelis in the Palestinian territories, specially against the people in Gaza, and said the Zionist regime strives to continue pressures, siege and genocide in Palestine to remove the country’s Islamic identity.

"But it will surely fail to do so," the Leader added.

During the meeting, Abdel Aziz lauded the Islamic Republic of Iran’s role in the region and the world and its efforts to establish peace and tranquility.

The Mauritanian president, heading a high-ranking politico-economic delegation, arrived in Iran on Monday for a two-day visit to confer with Iranian officials on bilateral ties and regional and international issues.

Mr. Obama spent perhaps two minutes in his hour and nine minutes long speech talking about foreign policy.

Iran was mentioned a grand total of three times.

By the way, where is Abe Foxman?

Iran hangs 2 for allegedly aiming to topple state

By Nasser Karimi, Associated Press Writer

January 28, 2010

TEHRAN, Iran – Iran on Thursday executed two men accused of involvement in an armed anti-government group, as the public prosecutor announced that new death sentences have been issued against opposition activists involved in protests over June’s disputed presidential election

The two men who were hanged before dawn Thursday had been arrested before the election and did not appear to be connected to the postelection protests.

But they were put before the same mass trial as opposition leaders and activists arrested amid the crackdown, and state media Thursday depicted the two as part of the protest movement, a sign of how the government has used the unrest as an opportunity to pursue other enemies. The media’s depiction of the executions may aim to intimidate the opposition ahead of new street demonstrations expected in February.

In a further move likely aimed at cowing protesters, Tehran’s prosecutor announced that five people have been sentenced to death for involvement in the most recent major demonstration, on Dec. 27. That day saw the worst violence of the crackdown, with at least eight people killed in clashes between police and protesters and hundreds arrested.

The new verdicts raise to nine the number of people sentenced to death for involvement in protests, said the prosecutor, Abbas Jafari Dowlatabadi.

He also announced that another group of the postelection detainees would go on trial on Saturday. He said the trial will demonstrate the role of "leftists, Bahais and those who were directed by foreign hands" in the postelection turmoil. He did not say how many new defendants would go on trial…

The two men who were executed, Mohammad Reza Ali Zamani and Arash Rahmanipour, were convicted by a Revolutionary Court of belonging to "counterrevolutionary and monarchist groups," plotting to overthrow "the Islamic establishment" and planning assassinations and bombings, Dowlatabadi told state TV.

He said the two confessed during the trial and that an appeals court upheld their death sentences. He made no mention of the postelection protests in connection to the case.

Rahmanipour’s lawyer, Nasrin Sotoudeh, told the Associated Press Thursday that the 20-year-old Rahmanipour was arrested in April on the charge of membership in an armed opposition group, the Royal Association of Iran.

She said his trial and verdict were "unfair and illegal," saying his lawyer was not allowed to participate in the court sessions and he was forced to confess. She said she and Rahmanipour’s relatives had not been notified of any appeal’s court ruling upholding the death sentences…

Iran has put on trial more then 100 political activists and figures since August. The defendants have included not only those directly involved in protests but also opposition politicians and writers — a sign that the leadership has used the turmoil as an opportunity to cast a wide net in pursuing its various opponents. More than 80 of those on trial have been sentenced to prison terms ranging from six months to 15 years.

Previously, authorities had said five of those on trial had been sentenced to death. The five more announced by Dowlatabadi should raise the total to 10, but he spoke only of nine

Where is the outrage?

Dangerous, dangerous talk from yet another looney tune of the Middle East.

It surely will not go unnoticed by the Isreali’s.

Ahmadinejad has clearly made it his goal. I guess if there’s any good news it still looks like they’re talking a bigger game than they can match right now. Still, to think if we had a President that simply had publicly voiced support for what the Iranian people did last year – how different things may look today. But.. pick a category and find that to be the case.

Again, Palin destroyed Obama on this in her response with Hannity.
