Taliban kill Afghan translator

Sun, 08 Apr 2007

Taliban say they have killed an Afghan translator kidnapped last month with an Italian journalist, as the government refused to negotiate his release.

“We killed Ajmal (Naqshbandi) today because the government did not respond to our demands,” top Taliban military commanders have told media outlets on Sunday. “They (the government) did not contact us,” they said.

Daniele Mastrogiacomo, reporter for the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, was kidnapped along with his driver and the translator early last month. The Italian reporter was freed after about two weeks when Kabul agreed to release five top Taliban fighters, but his driver was beheaded and the translator held.

Another gift from the Muslim holymen.

And just in time for Easter.
