Thank you Catie. That means a lot. Our circle of wives is pretty tight and even though most of our husbands aren't in the same part of Afghanistan, we try to get them to look out for each other. We very much appreciate your prayers. R&R can't get here soon enough.

ProReason, I did do some research as I posted a link, and also found other articles confirming his take on the military. His views against the war, is not an issue. The military is angry of the release by the news, and yet Peter's said the most harmful accusations, implied the taliban should save us the time and behead him!!!!!! If Peter's had not retired, he'd be court marshalled. He gave nothing to base his insistance, to get his opinion out there, and it's harmful. He should have kept his mouth shut, especially knowing the military is trying to save this young man. Sorry my posts are lengthy, but there is not one bit of evidence or witnesses that he deserted. There have been many different stories as to his disappearance. And anyone like Peter's can say
we will lose Afganistan, or not send more troops. That's nothing from any sources, to say the things he says on the news. One report is they didn't even notice him missing. And I have many photo's from my military buddy, and most with Iraqi children. I've not heard one report that he went around saying I'm going to desert in an infested Taliban area, and risk them killing me for the rest of life. There was no place for him to hide. Study the area.

Do some research on Ralph Peters, Canary.

Again, he could be wrong on this particular incident, but he has been a rock solid supporter of the military and an astute military analyst for quite a while. He is no squishy, dictator/muslim-loving apologist.

Without access to all the facts, listening to him is well worth your time.

To me, whether he deserted or not is a non issue.

He is a captured soldier and should be broken out by his brothers in arms.
Now, when we get him home we can grill him over the desertion question.
If it is so, then he can be with his pals at gitmo. If it is not, we brought our
son home to his country.

As it stands the enemy is laughing and we need
to shut that sound up.

Bronze, the Pentagon has ruled he was captured. Marines have been complaing more than ever complaining that the Afgans, and Pakistans soldiers that are fightingn with have leaks inplanted.
Many abushes that they believe was from inside leaks, implants. They can not even trust the foriegn intepreters. Even the taliban have been telling officials he was kidnapped. Considering the enormous amount of drugs (heroin) the Taliban have, especially since Obama halted the burning of poppy fields as Bush has done since 9/11, implants in his unit, talibans fighting side by side with us, could have found him an easy target. But, no America would desert
in a hell hole. He had 7 monthes to make it back home. Those chances were alot better than joining the Taliban and fighting til he dies. It's no big deal what he said. Even McCain admitted breaking. Most Vietnam POW's will admit to it. And this is not even torture, this is knowing they chop your head off. Anyways, time will tell. But, no one would desert in a hell hole like that. And if this young man, was a traitor, the military would have announced it by now, so that our soldiers would be looking to arrest him, court marshall, or kill him, their selves.
Further, if he was a traitor. They could have had bombs on them, when they told him to come with them. These were not bad taliban our soldiers and officers simply watched a soldier walk off. They would have shot the taliban he was walking off with. Look at the men who were forced to fight in Vietnam, and were against the war. It's okay to get there and feel it is a mistake. I'm sure it crosses every soldier's mind at some point. Further, officals in the Dept of Defense have said the things the soldier was forced to say is normal propaganda. Most the others held kidnap, knowing their head are going to be sawed off, have said the war was wrong too. It's no harm. The troops have been handing out threatening leaflets, I'm sure they'd say instead of "we will hunt you" if you don't give us our soldier, they'd rather say we will hunt and kill you. But, Obama administration is trying to prosecute and imprison Bush and Cheney for this order, even though they all know by now, that this was all made public, as S&L has proved.

While I heard McCain admit on news he was broken, here is Rush discussing it. And I hear McCain in the primary debates with another Rep candidate, that he was against torture and "waterboarding".

I heard that also a few weeks ago. This soldier is from our post here and many of the wives left behind are good friends of mine. Don't know how much truth there is to it though. Especially during deployments all kinds of different rumors run rampant.

The part where he says he was caught because he was lagging behind really caught my attention. They have battle buddies. They do NOT leave people behind. Maybe he was trying to let people know that something else he was saying just wasn't right. I don't know.

Prayers for this soldier, his loved ones and all the other soldiers out there.

I can say one thing in support of Canary. Air Force people do confront very different realities from Soldiers and Marines. Canary has a point that an Air Force Lt. Col. might not have firsthand experience with ground engagement where the enemy is very close at hand. (I chose the Army largely after reflecting a lot on my Christian beliefs, and I decided that if I ever had to take another man's life, I wanted to be in close enough range that my own life would also be at risk, to keep the regrettable necessity as close to reciprocity as possible and stick to Christ's line "to lay down your life for a friend is the greatest love"... For me the Air Force carried with it a different set of moral dilemmas and I could deal better with the Army's moral dilemmas.)

But even so, I don't think an Air Force officer is so different from an infantryman that he can't make an inference. I simply think that Peters was a bit too hasty in his judgment, at least for my tastes.

I'm just going by my gut instinct on this one. Looks like a case of a soldier deserting. He's in infantry and he disappeared off his base. It is not plausible to infer that he simply lagged behind during patrols; that conflicts with the way combat units work, and apparently he was 11-B (combat specialist).

I hope I'm wrong, and I pray the private returns home safely. But we have to grapple with the fact that some servicemen succumb to the pressures of war and decide they've had enough. That's just my sense of it. I don't condemn him for deserting if that's what he did, because I can fathom why someone would react to the stress by abandoning base. But the reality is that desertion is one of the most serious offenses in the military and if he deserted, despite my generous judgment of him, he is a criminal in the eyes of the military (the "lowest of the low"). That explains why the LT COL on Fox News was so harsh. He has apparently reached a conclusion already.

ProReason, I have to disagree with you. I posted a link to show the battles going on in Paktiku Province. To include the army looking for him. And I have not heard of any account that has pointed to him as deserter.
Ralph Peter's being an officer in the Air Force implies he's never been a foot soldier, and most likely never fought a battle on any line. These soldiers are living on the battle line.
And too make such an accusation, and prejudgment, without naming one source. While, maybe Peter's opinion for sometime we'd not win this war, is correct, and that does not make him necessarily a liberal, but Peter's harmful statement, said at this point, benefits no one but the enemy.

Worse, It might be the last thing the enemy makes him watch. You could hear them telling him what to say and he was afraid.

According to the informal wikipedia Ralph Peters joined military in 1976 went to Germany. Studied Soviet Union, been a novelist, on cable news, written for papers and mags. Dibbled in some Romance, Sci-Fi, such as

Brave Romeo 1981
The Perfect Soldier 1995

Fox should can Ralph Peters after they send him with a one way ticket to report in Afganistan.

Ralph Peters has always been a straight shooter. He is no libwit tool.

He could be wrong about this, but his track record is good, and he is certainly pro-military.

What he said is that nobody he knows in the military is defending the soldier, and that it looks like the young man deserted and is collaborating with the Taliban. He also says that the soldier's story doesn't sound like the truth.

God bless and keep this young soldier .. this young man.

I wonder .. have they advised him of his miranda rights? Have they made sure his diet doesn't offend his religous mandates? Have they given him a Bible and allocated sufficient time in the day for his private prayer time? Are they providing him an attorney and a tribunal of any sort?

Or .. is this young American fearful that at any given day, or moment, these barbarians may slice his head off?

God .. please fill this young man with Your Spirit and Peace and keep him safe!!! As well for all our men and women who are serving in harms way!!!

Video: LTC retired Ralph Peters blasts soldier, that he most likely is a deserter, and no real soldier would ever say the things Bowe said, and doesn't mean to sound too hard, but Taliban could save us a headache, meaning go ahead and kill the soldier.. Our sympathy should be with the soldier's he insulted. I don't think Ralph Peter's is aware, that most Vietnam POW's admit to have broke at some point. Julie Banderas a bit stunned, and says Fox will not be showing the video. Peter's works for FOX, but that should not surprise us.
