Actually Petronius - you bring up a terrible year in my life memory.

My dad was Chief of Staff at a local hospital (1968) he was very, very (this is not some vapid liberal statement) good friends with one of the local leaders of the NAACP. My family had known & employed his grandmother and we took his two children into our home during the local riots after MLKs assassination and my father worked very closely with police when his wife was shot - some (read NAACP) wanted to call it a suicide attempt. So my father stated he did not care what color a person was who was hired at his hospital, they just had to be qualified. The more radical parts of the NAACP voted to sue him for not doing the dance of Affirmative Action gimme jobs. He was planning to step out of it all - his job, his local positions (such as School Boards & local Dr for hotels/FBI) and his home (which at the time was a farm with 4 homes on it - two rented out, one ours and one his mothers [My grandfather set it all up during WWII so that the daughters-in-law could live 'with' them while the sons were serving]). And walk away from OH for ever. He dropped dead the evening before we were to leave.

I know that the added stress of the lawsuit was just another problem - but he loved this area - his elderly mother was here - and it all added up to them basically driving him away - which he probably could not do. This was his family's life (his Grandfather, his Dad, his Uncle, and his Brother had all been Drs in this area) and because he chose pure and simple (and for his patients the best option) common sense - a lawsuit was brought that was probably the last straw that killed him.

Hoffa is living proof of the old adage that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Including really rotten ones. I never did like the teamsters, even from my youth. I think of them as nothing but murderers who would kneecap (or whack) their own mother to serve their interests.

Your quote from the piece along with this one:

"The Teamsters believe it is shameful for Whole Foods to seek to shift the health care burden even further onto individuals and to call for less government help in solving America’s health care crisis."

...just shows how backwards and skewed the Nanny State has made our logic. Why on Earth is it an employer's responsibility to provide health insurance? This all started out as an incentive to get employees to sign on with one company over it's competition, and now look where it is thanks to the entitlement mentality that is setting in on Americans.

In contrast to the Teamsters, I think it's shameful that any individual's burdens are shifted anywhere! If we can't take responsibility to pay for our own health, what responsibility can we take? I realize people get down on their luck or have sudden catastrophic illnesses hit them at times, but this is what health insurance is for. And on top of that, the employers acting as middlemen are only INCREASING the price of that insurance. A public safety net for the rare occasion that someone needs it isn't such a bad idea, but start there instead of with this overblown government power grab that will only lower the quality of health care in the US.

Here's the WSJ opinion piece by Mackey on Obamacare:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204251404574342170072865070.html

While we clearly need health-care reform, the last thing our country needs is a massive new health-care entitlement that will create hundreds of billions of dollars of new unfunded deficits and move us much closer to a government takeover of our health-care system. Instead, we should be trying to achieve reforms by moving in the opposite direction—toward less government control and more individual empowerment. Here are eight reforms that would greatly lower the cost of health care for everyone:

Petronius - I'm so sorry about the events that led to your Father's passing. What animals.

And Colonel 1961 - deepest sympathy for the loss of your Dad.

May those that rob the dying burn in hell.

My uncle died in a car crash when he was 21 back in 1964. He had just picked up his weekly pay. The police or the amubulence technicians robbed him. There are always vultures out there, as you all know.

It's never easy.....sadder that your father's life had to be desecrated by a crime. That has to be hard to swallow.

Petronius:

My heart goes out to you. I lost my father two days ago, but to cancer, not some un-American thug! And the paramedics robbed him? You're a better man than me - I'd be in jail...

Prayers for your father, Petronius, and your entire family!

Good .. will always triumph over evil. Sounds like your Dad paid the ultimate price; but surely because of his goodness and justness, he lives in triumphant eternity today!

God bless and grace you all, Petronius!

"Your dad was a hero and a patriot, Petronius."

My sentiments exactly, Petronius. My heart aches at the thought of the living hell you and your family had to endure. Thoughts and prayers to you. :-)

We have to take our Country back from these thugs. It makes you wonder how many people are put in similar situations and we never hear about it.
