The CSM Says Obama-Care Is On The Rebound

From a shameless Christian Science Monitor:

Is Obamacare on the rebound? Media turn to positive stories

Positive headlines are creeping into the news coverage of Obamacare, amid a Democratic counteroffensive and signs the program could be turning a corner. But tough tests lie ahead.

By Linda Feldmann | November 26, 2013

Bit by bit, the media narrative around the travails of Obamacare and its main enrollment vehicle, HealthCare.gov, is starting to look up. Or to put it more precisely, it is no longer so crushingly negative.

After weeks of stories about website crashes and canceled health plans – and an extraordinary mea culpa from President Obama – a competing story line is starting to emerge. Slowly but surely, people are navigating the exchanges and getting insurance – for some, cheaper and better than what they had. Last week, The New York Times and Los Angeles Times touted a “surge” in enrollment figures, especially in states that have their own exchanges.

The NYT "surge" was: "Obama administration officials, said that as of mid-November, more than 50,000 people had selected an insurance plan, up from 27,000 in the entire month of October." And the LAT story is about California "which enrolled about 31,000 people in health plans last month — nearly doubled that in the first two weeks of this month." Wowee!

This week, a Washington Post story described almost an Obamacare nirvana – people in rural Kentucky lining up and getting coverage, some for the first time in their lives.

From the cited Washington Post story: "56,422 have signed up for new health-care coverage, with 45,622 of them enrolled in Medicaid and the rest in private health plans, according to figures released by the [Kentucky] governor’s office Friday." — Some success, huh?

Part of this wave of positive stories may be a media effect: Reporters (and the public) get tired of all the wall-to-wall negativity, and to keep interest up, seek out happy stories for a change of pace.

You see? If reporters get tired of negative news, they just start reporting positive news. Even if they have to make it up.

The Obama administration has also ramped up its public relations efforts on the Affordable Care Act (ACA), going around the national media and directly into local markets. On Tuesday, the administration announced that seniors saved $8.9 billion on prescription drugs thanks to the ACA. And Democratic senators have headed off for Thanksgiving with marching orders: Find and publicize the ACA success stories. At the very least, say Democrats, they need to counter the Republican message machine and story-gathering…

And when the Democrat Party says ‘jump,’ our media guardians respond, ‘how high?’

By the way, Christian Scientists are probably exempt from Obama-Care. From the Obama-Care law, page 107:

(5) EXEMPTIONS FROM INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY REQUIREMENTS.—In the case of an individual who is seeking an exemption certificate under section 1311(d)(4)(H) from any requirement or penalty imposed by section 5000A, the following information [is required]:

(A) In the case of an individual seeking exemption based on the individual’s status as a member of an exempt religious sect or division, as a member of a health care sharing ministry, as an Indian, or as an individual eligible for a hardship exemption, such information as the Secretary shall prescribe.

Similarly, page 128 of the legislation states:

(A) RELIGIOUS CONSCIENCE EXEMPTION.—Such term [i.e., "applicable individual"] shall not include any individual for any month if such individual has in effect an exemption under section 1311(d)(4)(H) of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act which certifies that such individual is a member of a recognized religious sect or division thereof described in section 1402(g)(1) and an adherent of established tenets or teachings of such sect or division as described in such section.

So they probably don’t mind lying to help promote Obama-Care for the unenlightened who still believe in that medicine mumbo jumbo.

Despite 90 weight oil in the crankcase, bananas in the transmission, stop leak
in the radiator, green goop in the tires, ‘new car smell’ liberally spread in the trunk,
bondo on all the rust holes, and cheerful bumper stickers over the worst spots, it’s
    still a wreck.

part of the design. we all know they aren’t media and haven’t been for a very long time. the plan is to play up the negatives as much as is bearable this far in advance of the elections. they know lowinfos won’t remember it in 8 months. then begin the slow build up of positive advances so when election cycle is in full swing there will only be positive hard hitting propaganda so the libs can point to how wonderful everything is now. “Look how well everything is going.” that’s why you need to leave/put us in charge.” By then there won’t be ANY negative news being reported, no matter how bad the facts really are. remember how bad the real unemployment numbers were/are? guarantee the lowinfows don’t. Once the propaganda machine is in full swing and all the bigO supporters are on medicaid, they won’t remember how bad it was.
and the rinos don’t have the sack to go against it.
