That must be some classy set of street people out in Denver.
Officials in most places with vagrancy problems must wrestle with issues like drug abuse and mental illness.
Apparently not so in Denver - which next month hosts the Democratic National Convention.
The area around the convention center where Democrats will gather is home to many of the city’s 5,000 or so vagrants, so city officials have hatched a plan to, er, get them out of the way.
For their own good, of course.
But rest assured that Denver isn’t going to confine them to shelters or anything.
No, indeed - while the Democrats are crowning Barack Obama, Denver’s street people are going to be treated to a cultural renaissance.
Free movie tickets.
Free passes to the Denver Zoo.
And free entry to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science (for the special exhibits on gems, minerals and Egyptian mummies - sure to be among the panhandlers’ favorites).
Oh, and free public transportation to help them get there.
Plus, the city is arranging for big-screen TVs in shelters so that the, uh, residents can keep full tabs on platform debates and such.
In fact, the city plans a two-day voter-registration drive so that street people can vote come November.
No word yet on any Vagrants for Obama committees being set up.
How’s this for daring? Maybe, after the convention, Denver will come up with a program to encourage its vagrants to, say, actually get jobs.
Of course the city fathers and the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless now deny this.
And we are supposed to believe them.

I thought one had to have a photo id and/or proof of birth, and an address to be able to register to vote?
Gotta love those Dummycrats - why let a few measly rules get in the way of something important (to them) as voting?
I guess this is another phase of the Vote Early, Vote Often program.

Wow, that article was quite funny. Can I pretend to be homeless so I go out to the movies for free? They are so expensive these days. And don’t even get me started about theme parks or the zoo….way out of my budget!
Sometimes, I can’t help but think that social policies that give people free stuff don’t necessarily encourage them to get a job or help themselves. Would you give drug dealers, the mentally ill, and the (rare) truly impoverished person money simply to stay out of the limelight and make the Democrats look better on social policies?

So, kind of a large scale version of giving the kids money for the movies so you can have two hours alone with your spouse?

This has been ongoing “news” for at least a week in Denver.
I urge anyone interested in more to scour the past week’s editions of the Denver Post and (Denver) Rocky Mountain News.

You would think that with their bash Bush/America’s the armpit of the world and evil to boot campaign stance - that they’d actually bus in more homeless to make it appear that everyone in Denver has lost their homes in this Bush inflicted recessional, depressing, inflation conflagration (made worse by Global Warming sweeping the
Nationoops World) to help them Win,Win, Win. But no the DNC has decided to tear a page from the old commie handbook and sweep the dust under the rug (or into the movie theaters) to keep up appearances.Imagine what they are going to do to you and me fellow - thinking, Constitutional, law abiding, working, conservative, moderate, religious and bitter gun clinging Americans?!? It scares me a lot.
