Democrats To Hide Denver’s ‘Homeless’

DENVER’S HIGH-CLASS HOMELESS

That must be some classy set of street people out in Denver.

Officials in most places with vagrancy problems must wrestle with issues like drug abuse and mental illness.

Apparently not so in Denver – which next month hosts the Democratic National Convention.

The area around the convention center where Democrats will gather is home to many of the city’s 5,000 or so vagrants, so city officials have hatched a plan to, er, get them out of the way.

For their own good, of course.

But rest assured that Denver isn’t going to confine them to shelters or anything.

No, indeed – while the Democrats are crowning Barack Obama, Denver’s street people are going to be treated to a cultural renaissance.

Free movie tickets.

Free passes to the Denver Zoo.

And free entry to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science (for the special exhibits on gems, minerals and Egyptian mummies – sure to be among the panhandlers’ favorites).

Oh, and free public transportation to help them get there.

Plus, the city is arranging for big-screen TVs in shelters so that the, uh, residents can keep full tabs on platform debates and such.

In fact, the city plans a two-day voter-registration drive so that street people can vote come November.

No word yet on any Vagrants for Obama committees being set up.

How’s this for daring? Maybe, after the convention, Denver will come up with a program to encourage its vagrants to, say, actually get jobs.

Of course the city fathers and the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless now deny this.

And we are supposed to believe them.
