The Hive – Happy(ish) Fourth Of July!

Here again is our randomly occurring weekly discussion thread, where members can hold forth on things that may not relate directly to the news of the day.

We also thought we would take this opportunity to wish all of our merry band a happy Independence Day!

If it is possible to be happy given the current state of our republic.

Still, we should remember that thanks to our Founding Fathers we still have the right to do our best to redress our problems legally.

At least for now.

Happy Fourth Of July!

And watch what food you give any Iranian mullahs who might be attending your parties.

They are said to be touchy.

    While it’s easy to get depressed about the current state of our republic, when I receive emails like the one below, it renews my faith in our country and faith that at least some in the rest of the world appreciate that we are helping them. Believe me when I tell you that this email would not have been sent without the expressed approval of the Ukrainian Border Guards Commanding Officer, General Litvin. Vadim’s english isn’t perfect but I pasted it exactly as he wrote it.

    Best of 4ths to all of my new friends here. One year ago I was uninformed, uninterested, and blissfully going nowhere. Life and God had their own way of showing me the grace of true liberty (mostly by making me suffer the consequences of my own actions), a journey for which I am now eternally grateful. So today I celebrate my Independence Day in addition to my nation’s.

    This is a little late, but here in my liberal University town for the second year in a row, fireworks were canceled because of budgetary reasons (sure). They found money to landscape road medians with palm trees, flowers and shrubs, subsidize solar roof panels for private homeowners, create brick-inlay crosswalks downtown and my favorite, allocate city tax revenue for a “one stop” homeless center.
    Anyone see the movie “American Carol”? Not the greatest, but living here in East Berkeley it made me chuckle.
