This is a little late, but here in my liberal University town for the second year in a row, fireworks were canceled because of budgetary reasons (sure). They found money to landscape road medians with palm trees, flowers and shrubs, subsidize solar roof panels for private homeowners, create brick-inlay crosswalks downtown and my favorite, allocate city tax revenue for a "one stop" homeless center. Anyone see the movie "American Carol"? Not the greatest, but living here in East Berkeley it made me chuckle. God Bless America!
