Remember the scene in "Lawrence of Arabia" where the Anthony Quayle charactor tells General Allenby (Jack Hawkins) "But Sir, we can't just do nothing!" and Allenby responds "Why not? Its usually best".

Right now, doing nothing may be best thing. The expectations placed on President Barry so are so enormous that he can't help but disappoint eventually but at the same time the revulsion against the Right is so great that whatever we say won't be heard (not that it is at the best of times), so we'd be wasting our time.

Maybe we should just give Barry enough rope to hang himself and in the meantime, as I've said before, put our conservative house in order. We can start by getting rid of the Boehners, the Schwartzeneggers and any vestigal Bushes that may be lying around and promote real conservatives who will push a real conservative agenda and make the public case for this thing we believe in. Getting rid of John "Boner" Boehner would be a good place to begin...

BTW, Mrs Artboy and your correspondent are right now in Middlebury VT, travelling around and checking the place out. I'm looking for signs of this big economic downturn but I have to say that an economy where its still profitable to market eight flavors of egg nog and four different kinds of Tic Tac (including Pink Grapefruit) must be fairly sound. Back in the UK we're down to Tic...never mind Tac and never mind four diferent kinds.

JohnMG ,
As I have gotten older( and after a scrape with the law), I have learned not to do it in the beer store parking lot.
Follow him home take care of business then take the beer home then tell the sorry POS never to darken your doorway again nor his crackwhore live in.

BTW, Semper Fi to all you vets and we may be getting older but we may not be through defending the Flag. Keep your powder dry and close to hand my friends, never know when it will come in handy.

Yup. Pretty much!!

But I agree, the bailout was not a good idea, and as psand says;

"The only way to avoid this circumstance is to not get the government involved in the free market in the first place."

Best to ya' on Veteran's Day, 1st, and Semper Fi!

Sorta like a relative asking you for money because; electricty about to be cut off, need diapers for the baby, needs to buy groceries, etc.
Then the next day after you loaned(gave) him money, you run into him at the beer store and he is buying 3 cases of beer.
Makes you want to beat the crap out of him.

Have they paid the money back to the US treasury? Last I heard, they were begging for more money.

That is the problem.

I caught a little Fox news this morning, and Megyn Kelly and Bill Hemmer of America's Newsroom were up in arms about how AIG executives were caught at another posh resort getaway in Phoenix, AZ. They kept saying, how long til these people wake up and realize that the old excuse, "this is the cost of doing business, this is how our business works" isn't going to fly anymore now that they are operating with taxpayer dollars.
Ahem, doesn't anyone realize that they don't have $150 billion in taxpayer dollars anymore, they have $150 billion in AIG dollars, now? Once that money leaves the treasury it becomes AIG's to spend as they wish, and as they now have seemingly turned a $22 billion quarterly loss into a $128 billion quarterly profit, I think they are entitled to a little rest and relaxation. Unless the dems (and I don't put this past them) are suggesting that upon receiving a bailout a company is then to be nationalized, then the government doesn't have any standing to complain what that company does with the money. It doesn't have standing to demand that its officers receive lower pay, or that the maintenance department switch to compact fluorescent light bulbs in all the bathrooms, or that it no longer takes executives to posh resorts, or anything else for that matter.
Let's explore. Say as Obama proposes, that the money comes with strings attached (i.e. lower CEO pay, no golden parachutes, a general sense of frugality). Well, if those conditions make good business sense, such as if the company were in dire financial straits, then they would do so anyway. But now that they've received the bailout, they're no longer in dire financial straits. They will continue to operate as they wish. So the treasury department says, 'you violated the terms of the bailout, give the money back'. Well, the company just says, 'We already spent the money, sorry'. So then what's the government going to do, assess fees, take them to court, and bankrupt them to make an example? That doesn't make any sense, because the whole reason they received a bailout in the first place was because they were considered too big to fail.
The only way to avoid this circumstance is to not get the government involved in the free market in the first place. Realize that the market will work itself out over time, and not go around giving out (my) taxpayer dollars to prop up unprofitable businesses.

I would like to see the establishment of "The American Patriot Party". As an over 40yr old, I do remember when we made everything here in the US and we were the strongest country in the world. We need to go back to that era and unemployment in this country would be non existent. Also I would like to see those on public assistance have to prove that they are unable to work! I am a hard working nurse and I see the abuse of our welfare system everyday. When welfare mothers show up in the Emergency Department with their kids having a fever and tell me that they can't afford Tylenol, when they also have fake nails, fake hair, gold jewelry and a cell phone, I am frustrated beyond belief. This behavior will only be encouraged with Barry's plan to tax us more so these type people can proliferate at will with the safety net of the American taxpayer funding them. I had 2 children because that is all I can afford!
I will probably leave the profession if this tax plan goes into effect, not because I don't enjoy my job, but because my husband and I can't afford the tax increase!
I shudder when I realize that Barry Obama, president-elect, (not my president!) is endorsed by the American Communist Party, Hezbollah, Hamas, Al-Quaeda and Louie Farakhan! Freakin scary as hell!

All I'll say regarding the idea of a third party is "United We Stand Party". Remember how quickly that got co-opted by all the loons? If things are going to get changed, it's going to have to happen methodically and logically. Focus on taking back one sector at a time ie. State, Congress, whatever.

I fluctuate back on forth as to thinking a Third Party would work or not. It doesn't seen feasible that it could be formed and unified with strength before 2012. But if ya'll can prove me wrong, please do just that. :-) I would support it, don't get me wrong.

IMHO............ To keep the existing Party together, I think that it is time to put the shoulda, woulda, coulda behind us and dig our heels in and get to work. First of all, the Democrat Republicans and the sellouts (Ya'll know who they are), they need to go. It must be about Party unity from now on. Chose who the Party Leaders and Pundits/Journalists will be so the message will be constant. The Republican message is too scattered and these days the MSM is only airing the negative stories from half baked Republicans. Then have accessible Republican news media website (?), with the Party platform, issues, press releases, monitoring of the Democrats, etc. Oh sure, the RNC has a website but, it is limited. Look at all of the spinoff websites the Liberals have to get their message out. We need a Republican koskids/huffnpost. We have to get rid of all of these Republican/Conservative myths that are out there, the urban legend of the Party so to speak and start now.

There are great Politicians and some that need to become Politicians, that could lead the Republicans. Gov. Palin should not be discounted. I saw the energy and the excitement that she brought to the Republican Party in Texas. She WAS a breath of fresh air and her politics were what we were all hungry for. Texas has it's fair share of Democrat Republicans to deal with.....I'm just saying.

We have to dust ourselves off, have one last cry and then get on with the business at hand.
We have to be unified, innovative and smart or we are going to lose this one in 2012 guys.

And that info and $2 probably won't even buy you a Starbucks coffee. :-)

I fluctuate back on forth as to thinking a Third Party would work or not. It doesn’t seen feasible that it could be formed and unified with strength before 2012. But if ya’ll can prove me wrong, please do just that. :-) I would support it, don’t get me wrong.

IMHO………… To keep the existing Party together, I think that it is time to put the shoulda, woulda, coulda behind us and dig our heels in and get to work. First of all, the Democrat Republicans and the sellouts (Ya’ll know who they are), they need to go.

Not a problem, gipper, I was just comiserating. Yeah, I'm past-military (would Obama say post-military) and I was joking about the feeling part. Some of my friends say I'll never have a heart attack--for lack of a heart. (I just love those guys) Also, I can no longer escape the geezer label, but Mrs. MG still thinks I've got style. I'm keepin' her!!

Sorry if I hurt you, JohnMG. I voted for John McCain. Just because he is long in the tooth, I didn't think he was senile or would die in office, despite what the media or leftist blogs would say. I am a veteran and my wife is currently serving in Iraq. It just angers me that someone so inadequate would win the presidency by a dog-and-pony show. (If you're military, you've probably heard that expression more than once.)
