I was taken by something Obama said last night, vis-a-vis health care, something to the effect that under his health care plan citizens would be able to opt for the same kind of health care that congress has. Later he went on to comment on Social Security entitlements, etc. I have a suggestion for him. If he really wants to fix things, why doesn't he and the rest of the government employees ditch their health care and retirement plans and live like REAL people live? If that were the case, you can bet that SS would be fully funded in short order.

Obama is such an idiot, he assumes everyone is as snobbish as he.

Undecideds at this point are people who tend to wet themselves because they can not make up their mind as to go to the restroom or just enjoy that warm feeling...

They are basicly too lazy to make a decision and should not be allowed to vote, as should no one who gets a gov check.

I'm not so sure it was a win for Obmama. I didn't watch all of it, but what I saw wasn't so bad.

First of all, the undecideds out there who believe that the economic crisis was Bushs', or the Republicans' fault, are really not undecided. They've been duped by the MSM. So all the time Obama spent chanting about "Bushs' failed policies" was wasted.

Second, Anyone who liked Obama because of his health care plan would probably do a double take, especially if they hadn't heard about the possibility of being fined by the Feds for not insuring their kids. I thought McCain put a nice sharp point on that that Obama did not rebut. Americans would, on the other hand like the idea of getting money from the Feds to get the health care THEY want. We always were an individualistic sort.

Third, anyone who believes that Obama would do a better job on foreign relations is also not undecided, so that is a non-issue.

Finally, I think that bringing Obama's radical background to light is a good strategy, as well as McCain's reminders that he tends to be a moderate.

It is very unlikely that any died-in-the-wool liberals are going to change their mind. I also hope to God that there aren't any conservatives thinking of throwing in the towel. Our attitudes and prayers can affect this election!

All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.

You're right, artboy - McCain is no Ronald Reagan, and we're going to drive ourselves to apoplexy every time he falls short of becoming "the gipper". Rush and Laura Ingraham mention this almost every day: "McCain is who he is". You want him to be more like Sarah Palin, and so do I - that would certainly ease our present anxieties over the polls - but he's NOT Sarah Palin. In a strange way, Palin is the cause of our frustration - she raised our expectations at the convention, and now we're disappointed that the bottom of the ticket is where all the strength and energy is. Wouldn't you rather see Palin at the top, and McCain nowhere at all? I know I would. Unfortunately, we have to make whatever we can out of McCain's campaign, and be thankful that at least he's still standing.

Good recap, Exeter but I just don't think a close tie will be good enough. I've watched some more of the debate now and it wasn't quite as bad as it seemed at first but, even so, McCain needed to be Babe Ruth last night and instead, he was Bill Buckner.

Thnx for the recap Ex.
I suppose these primetime “debates” aren’t the appropriate arenas to bring up issues such as Ayers, Rezko, ACORN, etc… would have been a heck of a night if they did!
Overall it sounds pretty much like a dull duel (a tie at best) …with no gains for McCain.
But we'll wait to see what the polls show in the next few days!

Icarus - to sum up:
McCain gave some quick broadsides on the Fannie Mae/Freddy Mac debacle, and actually blamed the DEMOCRATS! That was a notable improvement. He also brought up Obama's campaign contributions coming from Fan/Fred - which was great! I thought this was going to set the tone for the rest of the debate, but unfortunately this was as 'fightin'' as McCain was inclined to get - he let it go, and even let Obama bring up Rick Davis without countering with Franklin Raines/Jim Johnson/Jamie Gorelick.

McCain could have done better. The moment that really raised eyebrows among conservatives was his solution to the subprime mortgage problem - a massive, 'big government' project. With this exception, he didn't do too badly with his economic plan, but I'm not sure he managed to 'sell it'. Of course, he had to emphasize his 'bipartisanship' about three times, which got annoying.

Obama didn't do bad, either. It seemed to me that he failed to answer the first two or three questions he took, and the rest he answered with broad generalizations, no specifics. And he had one or two moments where he tried to break out of the debate format with rebuttals (not allowed). Of course, he made the 'four more years of Bush' argument in almost every answer. His biggest gaffe came when, after pointing a finger at the Republicans, he said to the audience, "but you people don't want to hear us pointing fingers." Do they teach irony at Harvard?

Most of the postings here are a little heated because McCain didn't destroy Obama when he could have. No mention of William Ayers, Tony Rezko, ACORN, or any of the other things that would expose the Anointed One as the fraud we know him to be. The old man wasn't aggressive, but isn't that always McCain's problem? He just leans to the right - he's not really a conservative.

All things considered, McCain pretty much held his own on economic questions (Obama's strong suit), and excelled on foreign policy (as expected). Obama managed to cloak his socialist economics fairly well, but didn't boost anyone's confidence that he knows how to conduct America's foreign affairs.

Net result: close tie, slight edge to McCain. Though of course, that's not how the MSM will call it.

Well, that was depressing. I saw some, but not all of it, rerun this morning and turned it off, it was so awful. I don't see why any of us should care more about McCain being president than McCain does, which evidently he doesn't, since he was so crap. He could have kicked Barry all over the set -anyone could - but he didn't bother, in fact, most of the time he looked like he had something else more important he wanted to or some place better he wanted to be.

All Barry had to do was to show up and not drop to the floor and start praying to Mecca as soon as the red light went on and all McCain had to do was show some energy and make a case that's eminently makeble but he didn't bother and now we're boned.

Don't forget the question of why anyone would bother to buy a mortgage on the secondary market when the Government will decide how much you'll get paid.

It's the new game, debt roulette!

Of course the real question is, why would anyone pay their mortgage?!?!.

1) Responsible person buys a $500,000 home. They pay their mortgage on time over fifteen years, but home prices drop. They own their home but it's worth $400,000.

2) Deadbeat buys a $500,000 home. They only make $10,000 in payments before the value drops to $400,000 so they default, and Uncle Sam comes in, buys the paper and reevaluates the loan. Deadbeat now gets the house for $400,000.

Uh, tell me who's the idiot now, the person who paid their mortgage in full on time or the one who went into default?

It's a whole new marketplace - buy your home and hope to "short" it by defaulting on the mortgage when the value falls! Way cool!

Think of the fun! Values going up? Time to get someone to open a meth lab down the street.

That didn't work? Maybe the value of your home will tank if you don't maintain it at all!

Hell, why paint or mow the lawn if it means you get that new home for a discount?

Get a bunch of the neighbors together to invite a juvenile sex offender to move in up the street and you all get your homes for half price! Score!!

All thanks to John McCain! Yay!

Please remind me, it's McCain good, Obama bad, right?

2) Deadbeat buys a $500,000 home. They only make $10,000 in payments before the value drops to $400,000 so they default, and Uncle Sam comes in, buys the paper and reevaluates the loan. Deadbeat now gets the house for $400,000.

Uh, tell me who’s the idiot now, the person who paid their mortgage in full on time or the one who went into default?

It’s a whole new marketplace – buy your home and hope to “short” it by defaulting on the mortgage when the value falls! Way cool!

Think of the fun! Values going up? Time to get someone to open a meth lab down the street.

That didn’t work? Maybe the value of your home will tank if you don’t maintain it at all!

Hell, why paint or mow the lawn if it means you get that new home for a discount?

Get a bunch of the neighbors together to invite a juvenile sex offender to move in up the street and you all get your homes for half price! Score!!

All thanks to John McCain! Yay!

Please remind me, it’s McCain good, Obama bad, right?

After 5 minutes I had to turn off the television. How can McCain say he's going to buy up people's mortgages, set a new value and then renegotiate the loans??? So, the rest of Americans who don't have upside down mortgages get to bail out their neighbors? oh yeah.. that's a great idea. who in the hell thought that one up??

I'm still going to hold my nose and vote "for" him, but I'm not happy. Out of 300 million people these 2 are the best we could come up with?
