Or not even though church but even through community civic organizations. People would pull together and help each other out. Government programs kill that off because there is this nameless, faceless government who sends you a check. When your neighbors get together and pass the hat and help you out or maybe just offer their labor to help rebuild a damaged house … it builds community. Government programs destroy community. People no longer depend on each other or have gratitude. There is nobody to be grateful to except “the state”. It also reinforces bad behavior. A person can be an absolute schmuck but they still get their check from the government. In the past if a person was thief or swindler, the community wouldn’t be so quick to help them out. It acted as an additional force to moderate behavior. Now you can cheat everyone in town and still “get by” on government support where the community would have cut you off long ago if it was in their power to do so.

Government programs contribute to the tragedy of the commons. Free money destroys people, families, and communities.

Carter, rather than engaging in Iran and demanding a change to constitutional monarchy and establishment of democratic institutions decided, instead, to run away. As a result the Russians invaded Afghanistan and the mullahs in Iran began to export their brand of Islamo-fascism to Lebanon by creating, training, and supplying Hezbollah. The Russians would have never invaded Afghanistan had we still had a strong presence in Iran. The eventual outcome of that was the birth of al Qaeda and the Taliban. People are still fighting and dying there. Israel recently fought a war with Hezbollah. These deaths can all be placed in the lap of Jimmy Carter and are what happens when America is weak and runs away.

In Central American I am already seeing the return of a situation similar to that during the Carter administration. Ortega recently stole the election in Nicaragua and the Sandinista communists are working their way back into power. Russian leaders are visiting Venezuela. Hezbollah is beginning to gain a presences in the region and apparently using cocaine trafficking as a funding mechanism.

I have a seven year old son.

It is now almost 30 years since Carter left office and our sons and daughters are still dying for his mistakes. My greatest fear is that my son will die for Obama’s mistakes.

I have no doubt that it’s coming. I just always figured I, my husband, his family, and my family could fend for themselves when the next one came. I, now, have a beautiful baby girl, and I fear for her future.

It’s a scarey thing, and I’ve had my fair share of nightmares about it. Not, necessarily, because Obama will be President, but because of the transition and what is going on in the world today. His statements and ads during his campaign sure as hell haven’t helped communication with other countries.. allies or enemies. I, probably, would have been able to predict our future with Hillary or McCain better than Obama..

I’ve never felt so uncertain about the future, before, except that something bad is sure to happen..

psand – Too many Americans have forgotten (or never knew) the fundamental character that makes us American. The no BS attitude along with the ultimate value of truth and high standards. We tolerate the attacks on God, family and country as if the cost may be ignored. Our forefathers would have been up in arms and sacrificing their lives at just the smell of this evil.

To answer Proreason’s question – I do believe that these scum are elected/re-elected because it makes people feel better about themselves – as in 1) gee, I’m not such a bad guy, look at Senator So-And-So or 2) see, everybody does it, I ain’t so bad. And of course the scum in DC encourage it – so that the worse and less educated, moral and concerned the ‘masses’ become, the more laws, control and power they themselves can pass.
