Travolta, More Scientologists To Haiti

From the ‘Lede’ blog at the New York Times:

Travolta Flies More Scientologists to Haiti

January 26, 2010

After flying a jet filled with relief supplies, doctors and Scientologist healers to Haiti, John Travolta told reporters at the airport in Port-au-Prince, “We have the ability to actually help make a difference in the situation in Haiti, and I just can’t see not using this plane to help.”

The Associated Press reported that Mr. Travolta flew his own Boeing 707 to Haiti from Florida on Monday, and brought four tons of ready-to-eat military rations and medical supplies along with “a team including doctors and Scientology ministers.”

The Scientologists will join other members of the church who arrived in Haiti last week and have been offering touch therapy to badly injured earthquake survivors at the General Hospital in Port-au-Prince.

On Saturday, the French news agency Agence France-Pressee reported that one Scientologist from Paris who gave her name as Sylvie claimed that the controversial church’s techniques were working:

“We’re trained as volunteer ministers; we use a process called ‘assist’ to follow the nervous system to reconnect the main points, to bring back communication,” she said. “When you get a sudden shock to a part of your body the energy gets stuck, so we re-establish communication within the body by touching people through their clothes, and asking people to feel the touch.”

Next to her lay 22-year-old student Oscar Elweels, whose father rescued him from the basement of his school where he lay with a pillar on his leg for a day after the deadly Jan. 12 quake. His right leg was amputated below the knee and his left leg was severely bruised and swollen. […]

“One hour ago he had no sensation in his left leg, so I explained the method to him, I touched him and after a while he said ‘now I feel everything’,” said Sylvie. “Otherwise they might have had to amputate his other leg.”

The news agency said that an American doctor at the hospital who asked not to be identified commented sarcastically, “I didn’t know touching could heal gangrene.”

Haven’t the Haitians suffered enough?

And if ‘touch therapy’ works, why isn’t Mr. Obama in Haiti?

Vinnie Babarino! You just flew into Haiti. How do you feel?

About flying your jet into Haiti..

Your plane. You flew it into Haiti…to help the Haitian people.

I don’t know sir. Why did you do it?

The Haitian people. Oh never mind!

I went to a Scientology Recruiting meeting once for kicks when I was in college. I remember two things about it.

The ideas were so looney a 3rd grader would be aghast.

The girls they fronted with were knockouts…..Cable News babe equivalents.

    I still don’t get it.

Outside the looney shell of this stinky onion is a very rotten core.

If you were a 20-something that grew up spending more time in worlds of television, movie, and video games than in the real world, then you’d see that scientological beliefs have been at the root of it all. It’s a merging of imagination, science, and spirituality, wrapped in the pretty paper idea that we’re all victims to other peoples’ mistakes and forces outside our control – making our responsibility to realize our purpose as perpetually subservient healers or saviors. While they try and mesh Christian ideas in there to add to the modern ‘post-institutional’ appeal, it’s really nothing more than glorified paganism. Travolta, Cruise, all the way into the whole of Liberalism get off to this belief system because it justifies immorality in private as long as they are successful in public, hiding behind the power accumulated by their fake ‘avatar’. That’s why I link scientology and it’s allied religious, non-religious, and anti-religious narratives as the Alpha-Omega behind most Leftists thoughts and actions.

That you don’t get it I think just speaks to the very good fact that you don’t understand such serious cases of narcicissm. I’m guessing that some in the Conservative media understand how disgusting and manipulative the Church of Scientology and its spokes-holes are. It’s a good thing that the odd rituals and cries for attention get called out.

Tom Cruise on Scientology (if jumping on Oprah’s couch was an 8, this is a 10 on the crazy scale)

    • proreason says:

Thanks tn. I looked at Cruise’s wild-eyed video until it got too creepy. What a nut.

It reminds me of the AGW fruitcakes, and of Obama.

How do such people develop the confidence to believe they are so right that they can impose their beliefs, not just on a handful of other people, but on humanity itself.

It isn’t like being a believer in a long-established religion or the Constitution, where millions of other people have considered and accepted the philosophy and there are centuries of traditional and debate behind the belief system.

These nutters are winging it from nutty pablum still in the embyo stage, but they still are so convinced that they are willing to shove it down your throat.

Frightening. The end results of that brand of craziness in the past has been the deaths of billions of people.

But all things considered, I’ll take Cruise rather than Obamy, in a heartbeat. Scientologists haven’t slaughtered a few hundred million people yet.

Ya gotta love these peabrains. Who is better qualified to help people in a real disaster? Let’s see, you go into a Scientology Center to be “scanned” for Thetons which are invisible and adhere to your body, and must be “cleared” which just happens to take as many sessions as will empty your bank account, and in the process, you spill as much personal/embarrassing information on yourself as will open you to blackmail, so you can’t retaliate against the (tax exempt) “religion” once you wake up from your stupidity. Yessir, these are clearly qualified first responders. Haiti is already laboring under 60% illiteracy, rampant corruption and voodoo. It needs these people like it needs cholera.

  4. jobeth says:

Scientology is junk. Not even junk science…just junk.

I’ll never understand why people buy into it. As I understand it its a $ scam that costs megabucks to advance to the next level.

Having said that, and not understanding why Travolta allowed himself to be bamboozled by Scientology, Travolta himself is a decent sort.

He is a kind man who always steps up to try to help if he can.

He lives about 10 miles from me and often does things that benefit the area. Not big flashy things but quiet things that help.

As a person he is a good man. I am not surprised to see he has done this. ‘Touch’ therapy not withstanding I am glad he is helping.

BTW…that HUGE plane is parked right up next to his house under a “carport” type structure that is attached to his house. Amazing sight! You can see it on Google earth. Just enter his name and Florida and it will take you to it.

  5. Fuzzlenutter says:

    No worries.

As a commenter on another blog said about this:

“Don’t worry, the scientologists will leave as soon as they realize that the Haitians have no money”.

    • jobeth says:

True…Maybe they are hoping to get “paid” with some of the many millions already sent there.

As they say “Follow the money”. Scientologists always do.

  6. Rusty Shackleford says:

    What arrogance!

John Revolta needs a PR plug so he flies his “very special” Bo-ring 707 that burns millions of dead dinosaurs, feeding the “toxic” gas CO2 , and won’t the (impoverished, homeless, sickly, starving) Haitians be SOOOOO impressed with my magnificence and super-star powers? Hey lookit that jet!!! Wow! Did you get enough video? Will it be on ABCCBSNBCMSNBCCNN? Make sure you couple it next to the plug for my new movie!

    Wonder-Twins powers ACTIVATE!!!

    Wuzzat? Yes, Travolta. T-R-A-V

If only I could vomit more.

  7. U NO HOO says:

Fly some Haitians to Quebec. They know the language.

    I’m serious.

    Or Louisiana.

    • tyroneshoelaces says:

Nooooooooooooooo not Canada, please! We have enough garbage here already. Oh wait, Quebec isn’t Canada so full speed ahead!

  8. ptat says:

First the depravity of voodoo and now Scientology, an evil and destructive force if there ever was one! I agree, though, no money/no Scientology–unless there is some ulterior motive that only their depraved minds could concoct. Slave labor for e-meters?

  9. Liberals Demise says:

Anyone but me wonder where the loving people of CAIR are?

And will they leave the explosive underwear behind when they fly into Haiti?

  10. Liberals Demise says:

Better yet, why isn’t Vinnie trying to convert mooselimb suicide bombers?
By telling them that there are no 72 virgins in Heaven but for a nominal fee …….
