Troop Request Delayed Until WH Is Ready

From a relieved Reuters:

McChrystal troops request shelved pending review

By Peter Graff and Adam Entous

KABUL/WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan has submitted a request for more troops, a spokesman said Saturday, but the Pentagon will hold it while President Barack Obama decides what strategy to pursue.

General Stanley McChrystal hand delivered his long-awaited request to U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen and NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Admiral James Stavridis, said spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Tadd Sholtis…

In a bleak assessment prepared last month and leaked to the media in recent days, McChrystal wrote that his mission would likely fail if he is not given reinforcements for his force, now more than 100,000 strong, including about 63,000 Americans.

The additional troops would be needed as part of a complete overhaul of tactics, with new emphasis on securing civilians in population centers to loosen the grip of a strengthening Taliban-led insurgency.

The White House says it wants to review the entire strategy for the region before considering McChrystal’s request.

"Right now the focus is on the strategic assessment itself. It (the troop request) will be shelved until such time that the White House is ready," a defense official said in Washington.

"It is not going to be addressed, or reviewed, or analyzed until the White House is ready to begin discussing it."

The official, who asked not to be identified while discussing the confidential review, said several White House meetings on strategy were scheduled for next week

What’s the rush?

It’s not a pressing issue like pushing through Obama-care or a carbon tax.

It certainly doesn’t rank with the need to pass a stimulus bill that nobody had even read.

So what if our forces are undermanned.

My father once told me that in order to assess a person properly, you should see where they place their priorities.

A few dozen additional combat deaths won’t hurt the boy king politically.

So there’s really no issue with a little delay. .

Obamy has some television appearances to get ready for. That requires a lot of attention, particularly if he will have to trade light-hearted repartee with a high-profile comedian.

And he hasn’t had a vacation recently either.

    • GL0120 says:

With this one exception PR, I think that the country would be far better off if TCO appeared on more shows like Letterman and took more vacations.
Frankly, he should take Pelosi, Reid, and the rest of the Democrats with him.

  3. Melly says:

Barry and his radical team are running the show obviously.
OMG – the many more troops that will die because of him.
    What shame.

  4. bill says:

Obama bin lying about “the good war” too huh. Is everything with this Obama guy just a shuck and jive act?

  5. Tater Salad says:

Oh, the King of The World or He thinks he is now has to break “another” election promise in the coming weeks. This young, inexperienced young man AND his handpicked by Him administration is in way over heads. He should have stayed a community organizer.

    Note to DingleBarry Hoosayin Obumer:

Your lack of anything resembling an American leader is showing and the best thing now for you to do is quit. You have proven to one and all that you are waaaaaay over your head and you know absolutely f&*#ing nothing about the cost of Freedom or protecting your (our) military.

Men are dying and you still hesitate.
France has a bigger set of nuggets than you will ever have. If you must surrender, do so to the Justice Department because you have broken the oath you took 8 months ago.

As a very proud Aunt I will mention my 20 year old nephew, a Marine, is scheduled to go to Afghanistan in May. I want his behind protected with the amount of soldiers recommended and requested. IMO, Barry is a disgrace as Commander in Chief.

    • Liberals Demise says:

“May God bless and keep your Marine nephew safe”.

      OOORAH and SEMPER FI, TZ!!

    • TwilightZoned says:

Thanks, LD. Your kind words are greatly appreciated.

  7. LewWaters says:

Remember all the fuss the left made towards Bush with “Listen to the generals?”

Remember Obama campaigning on “I will listen to the generals?”

I guess we didn’t realize he meant he would listen only to retired partisan generals over those with boots on the ground.

  8. canary says:

The traitorous New York Times supports Obama’s endangerment of our troops sighting the following excuses, leaving out, the Letterman show, Men’s Health mag interview, and Obama’s tedious task with his WH production company narrating all his books on audio to insult Illinoise Patterson.

Now Iran is our biggest threat. WARNING This may mean why Emanual repeatedly stated all citizens upon adulthood will have to do 3 monthes of service in such as the quote” the National Guard” And he was quoted using a nasty irratated tone he meant, “Yes!…Jumping Jacks”.

“… he had been directed to provide more information and respond to several questions, including on perhaps the thorniest issue: the impact of the flawed Afghan presidential election…
…. including an approach supported by Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. to scale back the military operation in Afghanistan to focus instead on terrorists seeking haven in Pakistan.”
This is Obama meddling in the election prior, to his new Iran nuclear
    site in their Holy place.

Does anyone feel a “draft” ?

That photo shows General Stanley McChrystal carrying out Obama’s new rules of engagment that our soldiers will live side by side with the Afganistans. It speaks a thousand words why more soldiers are needed to carry out Obama’s new group hug war tactics. Statistics are that someone in the picture will throw a grenade at our troops. Most likely one smiling.

The left was also rippin’ on Bush & Rumsfeld for not armoring up Humvees. I thought Afghanistan was where: The Real War on Terror should be fought.

  10. Helena says:

This is disgusting. He’s going to wait for a political poll on this before he makes a decision, even though he already has the expert recommendations of people who are actually there and in harm’s way. But yes, you’re right, SG, the healthcare putsch and new taxes can’t wait another minute.

  11. grits says:

Is anyone else having LBJ déjà vu?

    • proreason says:

LBJ was misguided in many ways but he wasn’t an enemy of the country.

Comparing the criminal in the white house to LBJ implies that the Moron is just another dimwitted liberal.

This president is a traitor and a person who has been in training for years to dismantle this country.

    • canary says:

grits, no. Just Hitler deja vu. Maybe he’s reincarnated.

    • Liberals Demise says:

The only deja-vu going on here is politicians micro managing a war 10,000 miles away from the front and tying the warriors hands with friggin’, ‘Rules of Engagement’.

Shades of ‘Nam revisited …… if you ask me.
      “Brave Warriors …. Gutless politicians!!!

  12. Where is Gates? Do we have a Secretary of Defence? What is his job? Our Secretary of State has said we don’t need those troops. Nice of her to give Obama cover. Who next? Jimmy Carter?

    • GL0120 says:

Keep in mind that all cabinet secretaries are appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the president.
They are supposed to provide advice but there is nothing that requires the president to take it.
In this case, the cabinet secretaries are merely figureheads, the real decisions are being made my Bill Ayres, George Soros, and a few other dedicated communists.

  13. “…but the Pentagon will hold it while President Barack Obama decides what strategy to pursue.

Perhaps Obama should pretend he’s a good administrator and hire a highly trained & experienced General to make that assessment.

    Oh. Wait…

    • proreason says:

The Moron was exceedingly explicit when he vistied General Petraeus during the campaign that the general would be handling the small tactical stuff wheras HE (the Moron) would be setting the important Strategies (based, one supposes on his extensive experience playing Risk and Stratego).

So now we see it in action.

The Strategy doesn’t, in any way, consider the lives of our servicemen. It also doesn’t have anything to do with Terrorism or Afghanistan. It depends exclusively on how the rest of The Moron’s fascist agenda is proceding, and the need to placate the crazies who put him on his throne.

  14. 11ten1775 says:

“General Stanley McChrystal hand delivered his long-awaited request…”

    Remember this?

“Defense Secretary Robert Gates initially had asked the new commander to submit an assessment of the war effort within 60 days of taking over the helm in June.

But after an unannounced meeting with the commander over the weekend in Belgium, Gates has given the general until early September instead of mid-August to complete his assessment, his press secretary, Geoff Morrell said.

The commander’s report also will not include a specific appeal for more troops in Afghanistan, Morrell said.

“The assessment will focus on the situation on the ground and the way ahead but will not offer specific resource requests or recommendations,” Morrell said.”

Why is it that Obama didn’t want McChrystal’s report in August? This struck me as odd back then.
Now we know that August was the big month for the Obama-care push, among other things. And why were they so insistent that he wasn’t going to ask for more troops? How incredibly disingenuous of this president to so blatantly play politics with our men in harm’s way.
For all his good reviews, I’ve never really trusted Gates, and this seals the deal. He knew what McChrystal wanted, and he went to Belgium to shut him up about it. Now he’s letting McChrystal and our troops hang out to dry. If Gates has any decency, he’ll resign and let this all rest on Obama.

  15. Tater Salad says:

I find this President to be a hypocrit to say the least. He is so raped up in setting dead lines to get his healthcare reform passed but he won’t set a deadline to get more needed troops to Afghanistan which would affect these young kids own healthcare. What a hypocrit. Kid Mao and his Marxist adminstration are in way over their heads. Please, 2010 can’t get here fast enough.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

In my humble opinion, there are a couple of ways to look at it. One, Blammo is maneuvering to either distract away from healthcare so they can slip it in under the door on us, or Two, since he knows he’s completely inept at military matters, he is truly the rookie and it becomes blindingly obvious to all around him when he hesitates because he knows he hasn’t the tools to make any kind of valid decision.

It’s been said time and time again that although our military answers to teh civilian contigent in our government, the key is for the politicians to tell their military leaders what they want. Not how they want done, when, or where, etc. Military leaders are taught to deafeat the enemy, anywhere, anytime and when left to that, they are very good to excellent.

But here again is a rookie president who actually believes that a limited and government controlled engagement will satisfy the need. It’s like a boxer going into the ring with one hand tied behind their back and then expecting them to “be versatile”.

The overwhelming chagrin I have that angers me is the very fact that to Obama and his “cabinet”, these soldiers are of no real meaning. They are not people and he has already told us that “Hey, they volunteered to be in the military; They should expect what they get”.

It’s not that he’s an “intellectual”; It’s that he’s PLAYING an intellectual while wanting to set up a poker game in his basement. He’s that guy at work who games the system and yet never seems to get anything done. Who cries foul whenever there’s disciplinary action against him…and who tries to surround himself with the high rollers.

Most of us, and even the ones who voted for him, to some extent, know deep down that he’s a poor excuse for any kind of leadership, management, technical appraisal, etc. He has no inherent skills to speak of, other than he’s a great bullshitter. Fortunately, on the face of it, it’s startnig to wear thin even on some of his early fans. There is a contingent that will never admit defeat or that he’s nothing like the brochure said he was but like I’ve said: We got rid of Carter..we can get rid of this excuse-riddled loser too.

(the preceeding was scanned for racist content)

  16. Tater Salad says:

I am from a liberal azz state called Michigan. Senators Levin and Stabenow are liberals to the bone. They just might loose their jobs next election when time comes due. This state is changing and we can feel it. They will be what everyone elso around here calls….unemployed! These two officials are socialists to the bone.

  17. wardmama4 says:

I agree with the Obamacare as The Won’s priority and of course it is going to be his cover too. But this jerk in the WH also wants the body count to go up so that the polling will go over 50% to assist with his desire and decision to withdraw. He can then claim – it was the will of the majority of the people.

And of course then it will make America all the more vulnerable to even more homeland (in)secure.

But the Community Organizer in Chief was never, ever about Homeland Security and Defense.
