UN: In 5 Yrs G Warming Will Be Irreversible

Via the hot headed hysterics at the Agence France-Presse:

World has five years to avoid severe warming: IEA

By Marlowe Hood

The world has just five years to avoid being trapped in a scenario of perilous climate change and extreme weather events, the International Energy Agency (IEA) warned on Wednesday.

On current trends, "rising fossil energy use will lead to irreversible and potentially catastrophic climate change," the IEA concluded in its annual World Energy Outlook report.

"The door to 2.0 C is closing," it said, referring to the 2.0 Celsius (3.6 Fahrenheit) cap on global warming widely accepted by scientists and governments as the ceiling for averting unmanageable climate damage.

Which would seem to suggest that scientists have finally agreed exactly what temperature the earth should be.

Without further action, by 2017 the total CO2 emissions compatible with the 2.0 C goal will be "locked in" by power plants, factories and other carbon-emitting sources either built or planned, the IEA said.

And such plant could never be shut down or – Gaia forbid – improved.

Global infrastructure already accounts for more than 75 percent of that limit.

To meet energy needs while still averting climate catastrophe, governments must engineer a shift away from carbon-intensive fossil fuels, the agency said bluntly.

"As each year passes without clear signals to drive investment in clean energy, the ‘lock-in’ of high-carbon infrastructure is making it harder and more expensive to meet our energy security and climate goals," said IEA chief economist Fatih Birol [sic].

Notice that Mr. Birol is an economist. This is all about the redistribution of wealth, and nothing about changing the climate.

Business-as-usual emissions would put the world "on an even more dangerous track toward an increase of 6.0 C (10.8 F)," the report says.

Scientists who have modelled the impacts on biodiversity, agriculture and human settlement say a 6 C world would be close to unlivable due to violent extremes of drought, flooding, heatwaves and storms.

Well, if that is what the computer models say, then we have to change everything immediately. (And never mind that the computer models cannot explain the lack of global warming for the last 15 years or so.)

The planet’s average temperature has risen by about 1.0 C (1.8 F) over the last century, with forecasts for future warming ranging from an additional 1.0 C to 5.0 C (9.0 F) by 2100.

The report forecasts a one-third jump in primary energy demand by 2035, with 90 percent of this growth in developing economies…

"One wonders how many more worrying figures the world needs," commented Connie Hedegaard, the European Union’s climate commissioner.

Connie Hedegaard holds an MA in Literature and History. She has also worked as a TV reporter. So naturally she is an expert on all things.

The report "shows that the world is heading for a fossil-fuel lock-in. This is another urgent call to move to a low-carbon economy," she said in a statement.

Setting a global price on carbon, slashing fossil fuel subsidies, boosting renewable energy and energy efficiency and revised tax codes are all tools for achieving that end, she added.

Actually, they are all tools for destroying capitalism and the rest of our modern civilization. Which is the ultimate goal here.

They really want complete and utter nihilism. It’s been the central tenet of Marxism for years.

Television infomercials 101: Put a deadline on a deal.

You have only 5 minutes to call now and reserve this low price offer!
Hurry up, sale ends Monday! While supplies last!

If these people weren’t so interested in crushing Western economies you think they’d be knocking China and India about carbon. After all, they have only five years until their jobs become redundant (somehow I think they’ll stay on out of the goodness of their hearts).

“”One wonders how many more worrying figures the world needs,” commented Connie Hedegaard, the European Union’s climate commissioner.”

As many as will hold ya ‘ till retirement, Connie.

5 Yrs G Warming Will Be Irreversible Finally. So in late 2016 we can finally officially stop talking about global warming… forever. Oh well, too late now right??

I’m willing to put up with their mindless chatter till then. But, on that day 5 years from now, I’ll hold up this declaration and say triumphantly “F%$# You”. Of course, if Obie is re-elected we’ll all be dead or starving in the streets by then, but if we put him out and a Republican is president we’ll all not only have jobs, but the sea levels will begin to drop… the icebergs will start to refreeze… the polar bears will begin freezing their little nads off again from sitting on all the freshly refrozen tundra, and ALL PENGUINS WILL HAVE HAPPY FEET AGAIN!

Haven’t these climate worshipers learned yet that it is counter productive to include specifics, or facts for that matter, in their propoganda? Sheesh…

Al Gore said something similar some years ago and Rush used to have a calendar ticking down the time to Earth’s doom. It was pretty funny.

If I were not from Earth and had just arrived, although I had studied from a distance what textbooks I could about humans, I would have paid particularly close attention to the books about cults. The global warming agenda has all the proper ingredients, complete with influential people who control money and message, large number of followers dedicated to destroying those who don’t follow along, “irrefutable evidence” to stick in people’s faces to belittle their supposed ignorance and the one coveted thing that most cults don’t have: Political power.

I suppose every generation and every society has its cults it has to put up with. I’m sure the ancient Egyptians, Spartans, Romans and Greeks all had them in their time. Perhaps it has to do with the way the human brain is constructed and willing to entertain any terrifying impending end-of-the-world scenario as long as it sounds even remotely legit. After all, great numbers of people have been duped over the centuries over far less intense “programing”.

Perhaps our failed education system is to blame. Perhaps it’s also TV, media talking heads and less-than-bright politicians who fail to understand science. Then, there are the scientists themselves who have hitched their wagons to the tenure/research grant stars and must play along or their own standard of living will suffer. They don’t have to believe the lie so long as they support it.

I wouldn’t get my hopes up.
A lot of people thought hoped we’d heard the last about “Racist America” after November 2008…

An atmosphere of 100% CO2 will give you a temperature of -109F. That’s right…cryogenically freeeeezing.

CO2 molecules make up less than 6 parts per million of our atmosphere. It is amazing plants can survive.

Think about taking 1 million marbles and laying them out. Now go find 6 red ones that represent CO2. Double or triple the amount and they will still be hard to find. Also, they alone do not trap in heat or retain any heat different from other molecules when dispersed in our Air.

Those scientists should lose their credentials for failing 8th grade chemistry.

Well, in 5 years, or if it isn’t irreversable by that time, then another 5 years may be necessary.

No worries Pro. If the world ends 12-21-12 they won’t have to own up to their stupidity…lol

If not…all I can say is how much HUBRIS can fit in the human head? Its mind boggling to think they can control anything globally related to weather or temp.

They want a stagnet earth…If they ever got it, THAT is what would kill us all.

  5. GetBackJack says:

    I hope so.

Winter is early again, out here. Snow already piling up, 20 degrees this morning and I live on the edge of the desert. Some global warming would be welcome because it seems to me, where boots are on the ground, that we’re cooling, not warming.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

And yet, you will always find some “scientist” who will state that if there are early/late snows, more/fewer hurricanes, heavier/lighter rains, more/less sunshine, etc., it’s all due to AGW. It’s their “universal answer to everything”. As much education as they have, they get wrapped up in some point of minutiae and run with that. Or, they bring out a graph and those who dispute the graph are ridiculed for not having the highly technical skills to read and understand it.

Oh how I wish Will Rogers was alive today. He might say something like, “The problem isn’t the climate so much as it is all these graphs.”

But I would never put myself on par with his ability to say things. For his timeless observations, I’ll just link to the wikipedia page:

Scroll down for some of his quotes and laugh a little at how perpetual his humor is.
