UNC Muslim Terrorist: Parents Don’t Approve

I guess it just goes to show you can't pick your parents.

From the Charlotte Observer:

Attack suspect: Parents don't like what I did

Taheri-azar's family is concerned, lawyer says

HILLSBOROUGH – Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar, who has said he tried to kill UNC Chapel Hill students to avenge fellow Muslims, said Thursday his parents don't approve of his actions.

"I don't think they like what I did," Taheri-azar said to reporters after a brief review of his bail status in an Orange County courtroom.

His parents, who were married in Iran but later divorced, were not at the hearing.

Police charged Taheri-azar two weeks ago with nine counts of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon after a silver Jeep Cherokee careened through UNC's campus, sending nine people to the hospital with minor injuries. The 22-year-old could face 150 years in prison.

Taheri-azar, who lived in Charlotte and attended South Mecklenburg High School, will remain in a Raleigh prison on $5.5 million bail, Orange County Judge Alonzo Coleman decided Thursday.

Taheri-azar, a U.S. citizen, was born in Iran, the middle of three children and the only son, The Associated Press reported. His parents married in Iran in 1972 and divorced in 2003.

Police say Taheri-azar wanted to avenge U.S. actions against Muslims. Muslim leaders have denounced Taheri-azar's argument that an attack on college students is justified.

The suspect told a judge last week he wants to represent himself at trial, but the court has appointed Orange County Defense Attorney James Williams as his counsel for now.

"I have been in contact with his family," Williams said. "They are obviously concerned about him and the situation."

Since 'Mo Mo's' mother is reported to be a translator in Afghanistan for the US government, let's hope she disapproves of what he did.
