Union Thugs Threaten Dem Controlled MD

From the Baltimore Sun:

Thousands of union members storm Annapolis

March 13, 2011

As Maryland lawmakers prepare to make decisions in the coming weeks on budget cuts and pension reform, thousands of union members on Monday marched on Annapolis to send a message.

The marchers were met by a counter-protest, organized by tea party activists, of several dozen taxpayers asking for deeper state budget cuts.

Of course the "thousands" of union members were bussed in and probably paid to be there. Whereas the taxpayers were not.

The union group was large enough to cut off traffic on downtown Annapolis streets, Chanting, "keep the promise" and "enough is enough," they decried efforts by Gov. Martin O’Malley and legislators to change employee contributions to their retirement plans, a move that would save the state an estimated $100 million next year

For the record, Gov. O’Malley is a rabid liberal and big spender. Also, the Maryland state legislature is still safely in the hands of the Democrat Party.

But heaven forbid that these ‘workers’ be asked to contribute even one thin dime to their own lavish retirement plans. Who do these Democrats think they are? They are talking to their bosses here.

One after another, state workers took the stage to tell their stories to an audience that organizers said reached about 15,000.

And never mind the photos that say otherwise.

Each was meant to illustrate a complaint…

In other words, each gave a sob story. Which has been the standard Democrat tactic since the days of the (first) Depression.

Meanwhile, where are the sob stories from the taxpayers, many of whom are unemployed – and yet who still have to pay taxes to support these ‘workers’ who even refuse to contribute to their own retirement?

Who cares if people on unemployment benefits have to eat a cheaper brand of cat food for dinner, as long as the public sector unions and their bought-and-paid-for politicians get their pie?

At the conclusion of the rally, O’Malley, a Democrat who drew broad union support in his election campaigns, made an unexpected appearance. He told workers that he, too, is unhappy with the budget

"Unexpected" our Aunt Fanny. Mr. O’Malley probably worked hand in glove with Organizing For Obama America bring this mob to town in the first place.

Last month, O’Malley and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, the largest group of state workers, reached a deal on a three-year contract that allows for raises if state revenue increases. The deal also contains a $750 bonus this year, and for the first time in three years guarantees that workers will not be furloughed.

And still that is not enough. This should be a lesson to all of us.

Union leaders acknowledged Monday that Maryland doesn’t face the collective bargaining struggles they’re seeing in other states. Still, the rally was meant to "send a message that we’re all standing together," Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO, said in an interview.

And, what the heck, these ‘protesters’ were already on the bus coming back from Madison, and had probably been hire by the week — so why not swing by Annapolis to show a little muscle?

Like Obama, the constant appearance of union brats in the media will have the opposite of the desired effect. With so many people out of work, struggling, with uncertainty the only guarantee, they will quickly tire of the hogwash that is coming from the state-run media regarding, well, pretty much anything.

So to any liberals reading this blog, yes, I am unsympathetic to the “cause” of any/all public sector unions. I don’t care what you say. Your actions have told me your true position. Selfish, entitled, arrogant, petulant. Just where do you get off?

I sure there has to be a union Czar. Hard to believe the Organizer and
Thief doesn’t have a “Hands on” policy when it comes to something so
dear to his heart. (I didn’t forget his obsession for recess)
